McCain's Auntie Says "He's Losing"

BS Article - McCains Aunt Jill Connelly/Redux McCain's 96-year-old Aunt Rowena talks to The Daily Beast about press bias and why she gets a kick out of Bill Clinton.

“He’s losing,” Rowena Willis, John McCain’s 96-year old aunt said.

Her stark assessment, in an interview with The Daily Beast, echoes that of her identical twin sister Roberta, McCain’s mother, who told a crowd at a campaign rally in Virginia this week to “pray for a miracle.”

Speaking from her home in Los Angeles, Mrs. Willis says her sister has been distraught over her son’s campaign. The twins have been speaking regularly on the phone, trading assessments of the McCain campaign.

Obama "says he wants change, but change to what? Taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor, that’s what it’s going to be."

The vitality of the two sisters despite their advanced age has been the best argument for setting aside any concerns about John McCain’s longevity. The pair traveled to France in 2005, aged 93. When they appeared at the car rental counter only to be told they were too old to rent, they promptly bought a car and set off on their road trip.

Roberta has appeared in ads, given interviews, and spoken at events for the McCain campaign. Far from a sheltered campaign prop, Roberta gained a maverick reputation of her own during the primaries with sharp answers to interviewers’ questions that strayed from her son’s own stated views.

After she told Chris Matthews that Mormons were to blame for scandals surrounding the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics—including Mitt Romney, her son’s campaign rival—her son jumped in to remind the host that her opinions were not necessarily his own.

Like her twin sister McCain’s mother, twice married Rowena Willis is still lucid and outspoken at age 96. She answers questions about her nephew’s chances with a quick wit, poking fun at her blue-blooded background.

“I’m absolutely biased,” she cautioned with a laugh. “I’m a born Episcopalian churchgoing person and very conservative. My parents were and all my relatives were. I guess when you get so one sided you have to be a bit nuts.”

I don't think Obama wants to rob the rich to give to the poor. I think Obama wants people to have a living wage so they can support their families with health care, buying homes, you know the everyday kind of things. You don't know what it is like for people in the middle class when you are born into wealth. The rich have always been taking advantage of the middle class and the working poor. Its about time that the middle class get the breaks. You who are wealth get many many breaks. You are the ones who take advantage of the tax breaks. If you own a business you take advantage of the tax breaks to where you don't have to pay taxes. I don't feel sorry for you at all. Change comes from the bottom to the top. We have tried top to bottom with your trickle down and that hasn't work.

The "rich" need to understand that they too will lose the majority of their wealth if this economy goes under. They need to understand also that for years they have made their money off the backs of the middle class and now? The middle class is going under and they can either see their helping as also helping theirself or they too can enter a depession with the rest of us.
To this woman? It's giving to the poor and if she has a problem with that? I hope she lives alot longer because I have a feeling that her reward in heaven will have to come from somewhere else as the God I pray to? Says to help the poor.
While I admire John McCain's Mother I regret that she would "pray" that her son win. I believe that prayer should be saved for things not of a worldly nature to benefit oneself.

When the U.S. is waging two wars that cost over $10 billion a month, of course the rich should be taxed at a higher rate than they are presently. After all, most of these people don't serve in the military, and neither do most of their offspring. Those who do should be commended, but we know that the economically disadvantaged make up the vast majority of the forces who are fighting this war. The least the upper tax bracket can do is show some support by accepting a higher tax rate. It's not about sharing wealth, it's about sharing responsibility.

The shortsightedness and greed in the upper classes caused the French revolution, the Bolshevik uprising, and every other communist or populist uprising since.

When are these wealthy folk going to understand that if they do not take care of their social responsibilities they will lose everything?

It is a plain fact that humans are united and that the things that hurt the least of us will eventually hurt us all. This is a situation aggravated by our desire to have it all for ourselves and the fear that if someone else has some gain it must mean we are losing something.

Unfortunately the upper classes have to be forced to share some of their wealth, when they do not, the situation turns unsustainable and the whole shebang blows up in their greedy, fearful little faces.

This is an old story that plays itself out time and again no matter the culture or the language. America's middle class is the engine of wealth and wellbeing for the American upper classes. Their desire to squeeze every last dime from the middle classes, to squeeze production and lower wages, to export jobs and sell on credit is unsustainable.

If we are to get back in the right track, the burden of social welfare will have to be shared fairly - notice the key word: fairly. Those that profit the most from our society should of course bear the biggest burden. Why is this so difficult to understand?

Ive had wealth and now i am just surviving, yet i am happier than ive ever been. I give people money i shouldnt let go of to help them. If people would realize that the plight of man is everyones responsibility and the outcome is everyones responsibility, the world would be a place for all of us to appreciate. Sounds cliche but that doesnt make it any less valid a statement. If Obamas goal is the Robin Hood approach, more power to him. Some filthy rich and most corporations have been robbin the hood for years. If anyone making more than 100K a year cant make it happily in life they have got problems they dont even know about. If anyone accumulates wealth just for the sake of having more, shame on you and im sorry for your shortcomings in the human race.

Rowena said it perfectly, "I'm absolutely biased, I'm a born Episcopalian churchgoing person and very conservative. My parents were and all my relatives were. I guess when you get so one sided you have to be a bit nuts." And that's what they want for the rest of America, early and regular indoctrination to make us biased Republican Christians.

Nice to see the Marxists have shown up. "Change comes from the bottom up." REALLY? When's the last time anyone was employed by someone on the bottom? When did being rich in America become a bad thing, and I'm not talking Paris Hilton silver spoon in mouth rich. I'm talking about people who bust their butt to get somewhere in life and provide jobs to others, and along comes Obamahood so the rest of us can "share the wealth" with welfare ho's so they can feed their obese illegitimate children with the two basic food groups Soda and Frozen Dinners.

As a small business owner, I support Barack's plan. My clients will have more money to spend and that means more opportunity for me. I would rather make more money and pay taxes than pay low taxes because I don't have any money. It is that simple. I know how a weak economy effects small business and the Bush/McCain tax cuts have not help create new jobs. If my clients don't get paid, I don't get paid. Bottom line.

Marxism???? Hardly ... Obama's position is basically this: People and businesses at the top of the earning scale have lobbied the political machine to act in their behalf ONLY for far too long. Let's provide some much-needed relief to those who have struggled mightily at the hands of W & Co. Nobody's saying that the rich should stop making money ... only that it's high time that ALL hard-working people have the opportunity to live without having to worry about fundamentals like what am I going to do if I become ill? How will I ever retire??
Why is it so God-awful scary to some people that others whose honest efforts to get ahead may not have yielded as much success and capital might be given a chance to live worry-free?

Bottom line? The rich won't stop being rich in an Obama administration. But maybe those honest, hard-working folks who are struggling day to day thanks to Republican policies will finally have a chance to balance their personal economies.

"Of course his wife is saying this is the first time I've ever been proud of my country. I don't care what your first name is, American children are born patriotic."

So, by implication, Michelle O. is not really American? Or patriotic?

"I compliment Obama for really succeeding in taking advantage of things that have been offered to him."

Note the condescension - he didn't achieve things, they were just given to him...

oh how cute she is, the little old wacky right wing racist lady!

Wow...I just thought this was a delightful article about a couple of colorful little old ladies who stand up for themselves when they are told they are to old (oh yeah? then I'll buy the car...what lovely little ol' feminists), and speak their minds regardless of the political correctness (he's losing, pray for a miracle...awhhh), and have a sense of humor about their conservatism...."you have to be a bit nuts." Yet, all these comments scream Marxism....Really? I' m a passionate, rally-going, phone-call making, yard sign bearing Obama supporter and even I found this article just delightful, humorous, fanciful. Marxism? Really?? (must be getting too close to Nov.4, really guys we're going to win...it's okay to laugh a bit and smile at a couple of cute, blue-blooded old biddies...really.)

Um, Sophia5 :

I am in a bracket where my taxes will go up. I grew up with a single mom, a teacher, my dad died when I was a baby and it was hard. We ate nutritious food and my mom taught me that if I worked hard, studied, learned, I could achieve anything I wanted. I resent your stereotypes of people who are struggling to get ahead--it IS a battle when you can barely pay rent and I experienced that side of life in this country, as did Obama. Welfare ho's? illigitimate obese kids? It must be sad to be so hateful. Obese kids need HEALTHCARE. We are all connected and we will win or lose together. My grandfather actually was from a very wealthy family, like mansions and governesses, that lost everything in the great depression. As a teenager, my grandmother reminded me to turn off lights, save money, always be mindful and not waste...now I understand. I know that I'll pay a little more under Obama but I know he believes in an America where people can work hard and get ahead and he will fight for education, the environment, and healthcare. The American dream IS worth fighting for. I won't vote for a man who chose the breathtakingly ignorant Sarah Palin as his runningmate, who wants to cut taxes on the wealthiest Americans (like Bush), who has a frightening temper, who joked in front of a rally about 'bomb bomb bomb Iran', who made fun of Chelsea Clinton for being ugly, whose economic advisor pushed through legislation that deregulated Fannie/Freddie...I could go on. Obama is intelligent, thoughtful, ethical, honest & dedicated leader and he actually respects the constitution, and he respects people from all walks of life. That is American. That is the America I believe in.

Even old people are prejudiced! It is so convenient for such to hide and twist words to promote their views such as: " Obama says he wants change, but change to what? Taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor, that's what it's going to be."
Who ever wrote this also must have read oft repeated utterance from Obama on his foreign policy. The biggest change he is going to bring is: restoring American Prestige, our sranding in the eyes of other countries, the leadership that was lost long ago in so much as shedding arrogance, policing and supporting cronies who do not care about their own people all over in other countries of the world .
Direct talk with enemies which Obama believes is good diplomacy & is a great wisdom; not naive as the others with little knowledge say. These are those who lack the wisdom and leadership qualities. Such people are selfish, arrogant and in fact cowards.

I was a John McCaine admirer earlier for his so called straight talk.
He has become a lier now and resorts to baseless un related accusations. He will not learn his lessons. He has become erratic and I believe this was his quality even when he was a pilot; I learnt of late. Shot down a fighter jet when he was upset!

"The vitality of the two sisters despite their advanced age has been the best argument for setting aside any concerns about John McCain's longevity."
What might be MORE relevant is the age of his father when he died and his father's health history.
