That sweater is bizarre and far too distracting. It even has a ruffle down the back, kind of like some lizards' spines. It might be fine with a pair of jeans, but not with a nice dress.

I think it is always a mistake when a person's clothes, hair, makeup, etc. are so unusual or bold that they take the focus away from them and their message. Ditto for guys with bad hair dyes, comb-overs or obvious toupees (Sam Donaldson, I hope you read this), wild eye brows, loud ties, etc. It may seem shallow, but how a person dresses communicates a lot, just the way body language does.
