Supermodel Kate Moss may be sporting a turban she dreamed up with revered milliner Stephen Jones to this year’s heavily awaited annual Met Costume Ball Gala, whose theme this year just so happens to be "Model as Muse." And it won’t be the first time the iconic British mannequin has donned her own design to the couture-crammed event, which takes place May 4 this year (last year, Moss sported a dress she had designed for Topshop, causing quite the sartorial stir). While her longstanding partnership with the aforementioned high street fashion mecca has no doubt lent a very familiar face to the budding trend of supermodels moonlighting as designers, Moss is by no means the first.
This month welcomed the design debut of ‘80s icon and a still-flawless Cindy Crawford, in the form of a home-goods line for J.C. Penney. Meanwhile May will greet the launch of Top Chef host and former poser Padma Lakshmi’s new jewelry line. And the roster of supermodels parlaying their stardom into designer stints doesn’t end there.
