i don't believe that's joanne woodward in the photo w/paul newman. since when in 1958 or 1959 did we ever see joanne without her trademark blond bangs? this woman has short, permed, dark hair (to satisfy my curiosity, i put the photo in photoshop and lightened it up.) aside from that, joanne has a round face - not oval. take a look at the costume - i don't recall joanne in a role that used that type of costume in the late 50s. and god knows, she never wore anything like that in real life.

i think the photo is mislabeled, and perhaps has been mislabeled for years.

I think you may be right. I'm a fan of old movies and Paul Newman made a movie released that year with both Joanne Woodward and Ina Balin, called "From the Terrace". This looks to me like Ina Balin, who had a similar face shape, eye brows and hair.

There were several repeats in the slideshow, just so you know.

I'm afraid that can't be sunblock that Ginger is putting on. It hadn't been invented yet.

apparently Tina's team couldn't find ONE photo out of 20 that showed a person of color enjoying mid-20th century summer. hmmm.

It's a lovely set of photographs, but I'm surprised to see there are no black people in your American summer. None whatsoever. What did African-Americans do back then between June and August? Hibernate? Surely someone had a camera.
