Explosive Protest and Police Brutality Videos from Iran

The Iranian government may have banned foreign journalists from covering protests, but that hasn’t stopped a flood of user-generated videos—many quite disturbing—from hitting the Internet.

Hed: Blood in a Sidewalk in Tehran

WARNING: GRAPHIC CONTENT. In this video uploaded to YouTube on June 23, a group of Iranians, one of them kneeling, look at a pool of blood left on the sidewalk. We cannot fact check the content of this video.

Students Injured in Protests

This disturbing video shows injured students being tended to by their classmates after violent skirmishes during the protests in Tehran this week.

Riot Police Flee Protest

From the streets of Tehran: riot police (in khaki in the foreground) are overwhelmed and flee a large group of protesters.

Tear Gas Fired Into Crowds

Iranian police forces have begun harsher crackdowns on protests, using tear gas to disperse crowds. The individuals filming the scene can be heard coughing in the background as the protesters are forced to flee.

BBC Reports on Defiant Iranian Authorities

Iran's Guardian Council, the body that supervises elections, may be conceding that there "irregularities" in the presidential election, but in this video, the country's foreign ministry seems far more upset at the Western media than at any possible voter fraud.

Police Capture Two Men

Iranian armed with batons appear to arrest two men. This video was uploaded to YouTube on June 21, but the poster claims the events occurred on June 20. As with many of these videos, we cannot confirm its authenticity.

Link?

I just hope America butts the bleep out. We owe Iran decades of not-trying-to-decide-who-runs-their-country.

America is one place to which Persians have escaped over the decades of repression. They are at home in California, they are part of the fabric of Los Angeles. We support their struggle against religious oligarchy.

I second that. The American *people* can support Iran in spirit, on the internet - voicing our support however we can. But there is no question that the American Government needs to keep their distance. Interfering will only give the police etc, more justification for quelling protests - it won't take much for them to insist they are American led. Let the Iranian people fight for their democracy, and let us stand firmly *behind* them - rushing out in front won't help anyone.

scubastrucking, you are wrong. That's just a slogan politicians in America use when they want to try and morally justify politically-motivated military actions. If that were a true ideal, there's a lot of other people around the world striving for freedom and being killed and oppressed that we would be helping. But they don't have oil so they are SOL.

Hey TDB....I know Iranian reporters are subject to media black outs, but that doesn't mean you guys need to delete so many friggin comments. This is a powerful subject and people will unleash emotions and opinions at will. Fall back a little bit and let voices be heard. By the way who are you protecting by deleting them...your sponsors? Ain't the 1st amendment grand.

The Guardian:

"Other footage posted in the hours after the crackdown showed blood pouring from a young woman's nose and mouth as frantic people tried to help her.

Two separate videos of the incident, each shot from a different angle, were uploaded on to Facebook and YouTube.

The YouTube video described the location of the incident as Amirabad, in central Tehran, and said the woman had been fatally shot."

Thanks for minimizing the reality of her death, it must take a warm hearted soul to play games with the truth.

Where is connie? This reminds me of Kent State. She's had a bug about that for a while.

squig, connie needs her sleep. And although there are similarities to Kent State, there is that one BIG diff, geographical location. Different countries have different laws, and objectives.

I know, I know, human rights and all that.

But, keep in mind that the guy wielding the baton is more than likely to be sickened at the sound of the melon when he cracks a woman's head. These individual blows will eventually take their toll on the human being dealing them out.

Perhaps, eventually the Iranian people who are wielding the batons will "just say 'no mas, boss'". Maybe even the holy-roly boys at the top will lose their appetite for hurting those they have sworn to Allah they will guide and protect.

Perhaps!

The reason that the "Supreme leader" uses the Basij is that they are thugs who probably enjoy the sound of breaking skulls. They are militia members that are not covered the by the Constitution (not military or police). Oddly, they are exactly the same and as bad as the thuggish militia that The Shah used (that Khomeini, the original, used as evidence that revolution was needed).
The Basij are likely what will cause change to occur, as Iranians across the whole spectrum are disgusted by them, especially as many appear to be Arabs (since it is harder to find Iranians who enjoy killing their own people).

CBS Nightly News last night reported that "as far as we know, no live ammunition was used against the protestors." And the mainstream media wonders why they're going the way of the dinosaurs.

I can not believe that watching how these protesters were treated there isnt more of an out cry from the world... I can not believe that these Iranians in power would do that to their own people...after all they are all fellow Iranians, and It makes me sick to see how they are treating fellow countrymen and woman...UNARMED, NO ARMOR, NO BP VESTS... being beaten, shot, killed... I wonder if those scumbags shooting the crowds even stop to think that these "protesters" are maybe their neighbors, and that every bullet shot will affect MANY people...the one shot and killed may have kids, brothers, sisters, mom, dad, friends, coworkers... and these COWARDS with guns dont even have to look their "hit" or hits family in the face...cuz they dont even know what horrors they have caused... I am sick after seeing these clips... ALL THE WORLD SHOULD SEE HOW THE GOVT IS TREATING ITS PEOPLE... THE EDUCATED, UNARMED, MOSTLY NON-VIOLENT PEOPLE WHO ARE DOING NOTHING MORE THAN PROTESTING AN ELECTION THAT WAS STOLEN... YOU KNOW LIKE THE 2000 AND 2004 ONES HERE IN USA... Iranians believe in true democracy more than lazy Americans do... we let our officials do what they want for whom they want, and dont do ANYTHING about it... well MOST Americans...some of us still do...I hope all of the viewers out there will pray for these brave people, and the families of the fallen!!!

Hockeydog, nobody who attains power through threats and intimidation, through lies and deceit, through devious manipulation of religious faith, ever gets tired of holding that power.
And those people will do anything to hold onto that power.
Beating a few malcontents to death is a small thing.
Shooting a few more is irrelevant.
What matters is the power.
The price is insignificant.
To them, that is.

PLEASE TAKE DOWN THE SCREEN CAP OF THE FACE OF THE YOUNG LADY WHO WAS FATALLY SHOT.

It is valid but also exploits her sacrifice. If you want to do right by her tell a deeper story, don't show the horrid last seconds of her life.

Agreed. The thumbnail link on the main page is disrespectful, and unnecessary. Had the young woman been an American citizen it would not be there.

This cat is out of the bag now, I don't think it's possible to suppress this uprising, not only are the emotions too strong behind each side, but in the case of the people of Iran, I'm inclined to believe that they don't want Neda and those others who have been killed at the hand of their government to have died in vain. This revolution will continue until the theocracy is thrown out, I just wish I was in a position to do more.

Her face is the face of the Moslem woman in Iran and elsewhere. They like women covered, with clothes or earth, it doesn't really matter. Perhaps they like women covered in blood the best of all. May her sweet soul be forever blessed.

Death to the werewolf of Teheran. Death to Iranian tyranny and evil. Long live democracy and freedom. Eternal vigilance is the price of freedom. Wake up Mr. Obama. Stop worshiping your reflection in the still water. Wake up, Mr. Narcissism.

Actually, toodogs, the Bush administartion and especially Laura Bush was/is quite outspoken on Women's Rights. However, in the political climate of the last several years, it has been impossible to cite anything positive.

I am sure this post will be followed up with the usual anti-Bush rhetoric.
