The Next Sarah Palin?
Jim Cole / AP Photo
Kelly Ayotte, New Hampshire’s GOP rising star, is a folksy, gun-loving mother of two who has her eyes on a Senate seat. And, you betcha, she married a dude who puts Todd to shame.
Shortly after a relatively unknown New Hampshire attorney general, Kelly Ayotte, resigned her post last month to consider a run for U.S. Senate, New Hampshire Democrats ran an ad comparing Ayotte to Sarah Palin. In the ad, the song “Two of a Kind” plays in the background as Ayotte states her desire to resign in order to pursue higher office. Text fills the screen: “Both Palin and Ayotte put politics before the public.” The Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee ran a similar ad in July, comparing Ayotte to Palin and Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, calling them all “quitters.”
So why are Democrats spooked by a 41-year-old attorney general from New Hampshire? Maybe it’s because they’re worried Ayotte, with her budding star power and folksy charm, might actually be another Sarah Palin, a star who rockets out of nowhere. With the national GOP desperate to replace outgoing Sen. Judd Gregg with a Republican—and desperate for any Senate victory, for that matter—Ayotte may prove to be the party’s best prospect.
Ayotte is “untested,” said one GOP consultant, “so the name Sarah Palin comes to mind—you never know exactly what the end result will be.”
“She’s an absolute up-and-comer,” says one Republican political consultant. “She’s charming, nice, and polite. She’s untested, so the name Sarah Palin comes to mind—you never know exactly what the end result will be.” In a sign of Ayotte’s potential, the GOP consultant asked that his Palin comparison not be made on the record because he hopes to work with Ayotte in the future.
Democrats have a tight hold on New Hampshire’s top offices and have been incredibly successful in the state for the past two voting cycles. Judd Gregg’s decision to retire means Republicans are anxious to break their losing streak by beating the major Democratic challenger, Rep. Paul Hodes, in 2010.
New Hampshire political analyst Dean Spiliotes said Ayotte is definitely a rising star, but it’s unclear how she will do out on the stump. As New Hampshire’s nonpartisan attorney general for the past five years, Ayotte’s national profile was largely defined by a case she took to the Supreme Court, successfully defending New Hampshire’s parental-notification law for abortions.
“She’s young, she’s got a nice family, two little kids, married, photogenic, articulate, etc…” Spiliotes said. “All the things you want in a candidate. And she’s fresh. A lot of other Republican candidates have already lost other races. The flip side is, we don’t know much about her as a campaigner.”
There are small glimpses of what Ayotte might look like on the trail. Last week, she made her first public appearance since resigning, where she charmed local Republicans in Wolfeboro with her commitment to gun rights and condemnation of abortion, stimulus spending, and nontraditional marriage—views Republicans were anxious to hear her express. She “struck a local note,” according to one publication, by saying she formed her political approach as a busgirl at a local restaurant, Mame’s.
“And at that restaurant I learned that listening is the most important thing to serving your customers well,” she said. It reminded one of Palin’s talent of mixing the personal with the political.

This right here is the sad state of American politics...
"She's young, she's got a nice family, two little kids, married, photogenic, articulate, etc..." Spiliotes said. "All the things you want in a candidate. And she's fresh. A lot of other Republican candidates have already lost other races. The flip side is, we don't know much about her as a campaigner.""
Not a single mention of her skill as a leader, her beliefs, her ability to work with others, or anything that it actually takes to truly be a Senator. American politics have become 100% about being electable and 0% about being competent.
We elected Barack the same way, ding dong!!
SoulHonky wrote a thoughtful and intelligent post.
Yours ends with "ding dong". So who is the ding dong now?
Ding Dong?.....children's matinee?
WE ??
Speak for yourself ...
I voted for Barack Obama because he IS Intelligent and can sift through complex arithmetic ...
You're the ding dong, MariosRight. So is oldpunk and mindlessmissy. ROFL that Obama gets math. His Secretary of Treasury can't figure out TurboTax. Obama had a convicted felon buy him a mansion he couldn't afford. Now he can't pay the bills at the White House, either. Look at all that debt piling up!
@mindlessmissy you are cool
@possumdearie heres a math problem: calculate out how much of the current debt was a direct result of the two bushes. If you come up with a number more then every other president in history including Obama to date then you are also good at math. For further practice reed some basic economics 101 stuff about recessions. Seriously it does give some perspective.
@MariosRight not sure you helping, although your motives are probably good. Remember how we won the campaign; when I saw these people from demographics looking pretty mccain like saying "you know I eventually realized that the stuff he is saying he is not that trustworthy" I was so proud of us. We need to keep focused on reality and keep the sidetracks to a minimum. As long as there is too much material out there, so many things to debate that its not humanly possible to keep track, the fear mongerers usually win.
Lets keep positive and on message even when frustrated by rampant myths.
First off, drop the we because it's obvious YOU didn't vote for him. I for one voted for Obama because he is intelligent, cool headed, and has a tangible vision for the future of America. YOU on the other hand saw a black man and screamed identity politics because that's all your tiny mind was able to wrap itself around. And being the reactionary incompetent organization the GOP is, it responds by pumping out mindless twits like Palin (I haven't heard this one speak so I can't call her a village idiot just yet) to fool their ever dwindling mindless masses. Get it straight.
Yeah, mindlessmissy. 57 States -- no other President EVER found that many. And coming up with whole new entitlement programs while cutting nothing, reducing the deficit, and cutting taxes for 95% of Americans? BRILLIANT (well, aside from the fact that he'd done none of those things).
And ElLamer, you are a hoot! I've not been a fan of either Bush (the first one drove me to a third party, which gave us Clinton, so I held my nose and voted for the other), but are you seriously contending Obama has been GOOD on spending, just because he hasn't spent more in 6 months than the Bushes did in 12 years? That's a pretty low standard.
Speak for yourself Natural selection...you are probably into ding dong!!...I on the other hand prefer a tested, articulate, honest candidate who ran circles around the Republican party....
Why did name calling get so mild around here?
Only a Moron would call such a thoughtful poster a ding dong.
Yeah, we elected another quitter last year too.
Remember Ovamit. Yeah, that guy. He quit his Senate seat to take the job of President.
Of course it wasn't like he was using the Senate seat for anything any. All he was doing was using it to run for President.
So what did we get. A guy who can't pass the signature desires of the left with a Congress that is firmly in contol of the Democrats.
ROTFLMAO!
He tried selling his Senate seat, too, and he almost got busted. Of course, the whole crooked establishment will cover for him. He's their top salesman. Till he starts to stink like three-day-old fish. Then watch them bail. Look at Axelrod's prototype in Taxachusetts; Deval Patrick has 19% approval ratings. Burn! Burn!
scottyinphx: Too bad you didn't mention Palin. She wanted to quit her governor's seat to take the job of Vice-President.
Recently she quit to become a hockey mom. And you are ROTFLMAO?
Snide posting. Not very mature, for sure.
Obama did NOT resign his senate seat to run for president. Where were you? He showed up for votes and said it was important to fulfill his duties and run because he believes that a president has to "multi-task" -- unlike McCain who tried to grand-stand by leaving the campaign trail briefly to focus on the budget only. That sure backfired. Imagine if he were at the helm right now. Think he'd be trying to solve this problem that will bankrupt the country if it's not solved?
Obama has taken on a massive issue that Bush backed away from: health care reform has 6 lobbyists for every Congressional rep. The lobbyists are out in force with ads, $$ for reps and lies. If getting new legislation passed on a vital national interest were simple, then Bush would have done it because that's all he was good for.
Save your snideness and do your homework on the issue instead.
Sippewissett-
Immature
Doesn't even cover it.
I hope none of these people
Are over the age of twelve.
This is a new low at TDB.
I guess the good news is-
There's not much to worry about
In terms of a political takeover
By the Right anytime soon.
Well being from New Hampshire where the state motto is: "Live Free or Die" and if she holds that as an absolute, then she could be a contender, no?
Being compared to Palin is a compliment. The law degree doesn't hurt either.
There's no comparison.
Ayotte actually has a brain and can string two sentences together.
Ayotte graduated from the Pennsylvania State University (with honors) in 1990 with a B.A. in Political Science, and graduated from the Villanova University School of Law in 1993.
If she were in the senate at the time,
she would have voted in favor of Sonya Sotomayor.
Thats good to hear, makes her sound OK even if this goodwin girl is putting her in the palin light. I would say if she will put progress over politics and especially over party then she just might be a good pick. Seems to me though anyone who is not going to be 100% loyal to the party line, even if its wrong, is not currently getting much support from the GOP. That opinion is coming from my Grandma who has voted republican for 50 years.
ElLamer, do you really think democrats allow a lot of diversity? Suppose you rattle off the names of a few pro-life democrats for me. Or democrats who are against card-check. You guys have the blue-dogs, which you hate as much as we hate our RINOs. It's preposterous to pretend there's any difference between the parties in the matter of expectations of ideological loyalty.
SoulHonky you are 100% correct.
Yes Kelly Ayotte SEEMS to have all the traits that the right-wingers love about Sarah Palin, EXCEPT for the most important trait: hottness. Let's be honest, Palin's greatest asset is her beauty. THAT'S why both the right-wing and the media give Palin a platform. There is nothing the G.O.P. loves better than a hot woman who loves God, Guns, and hates Gays. Beautiful women are allowed to be rude and mean-spirited, ugly women are not!
Ms. Kelly Ayotte appears to be a woman of average looks but higher IQ than Palin. For the sake of the country I hope conservatives come to prefer her over Palin. However beauty seems to trump intelligence when it comes to the women of the G.O.P.
P.S. It's truly sad that Republicans are so old that 41 is considered "young" in their party.
I guess they beat the hairy pinko libs the democrats put out?
BWAAAHHHHAAAAAA.
I haven't heard the "pinko libs" nonsense used in a while.
You Cons make for the best unintended humor.
My favorite was the day I heard Obama referred to as a "Socialist, Communist and Fascist" all in the same day on Faux News, oops, I mean Fixed News, sorry I mean Fox News.
Keep on doing your thing and I'll keep on laughing at you and your party will keep on sinking to third party status.
Pinko? Lost in time, Nat-Sel?
By golly, gee willikers! These pinko, hippie kids of today! Hop back into the wayback machine and leave 1971 behind!
I see that being thin-skinned extends beyond the White House to the rest of liberal America...that's all you've got?
It was intended to be silly humor, but of course you had to get offended in some way.
Caroline Kennedy had a horse face, and at an age older than Ayote or Palin, Sweet Caroline was... dumb dumb dumb. :)
consrfunny, I like for people to be happy, so I guess I'm glad you got a laugh out of "pinko libs" and "socialist, communist and fascist". But maybe you could help the rest of us enjoy it as well. "Pinko" refers to communism and socialism, which by any measure is certainly the direction the liberal wing of the democrat party wishes to take us; and fascism is just a special case of socialism, where rather than actually taking ownership of industry, government runs it without taking ownership. Again, exactly where Obama and co. are taking us.
Now, if you happen to LIKE communism and socialism, I can see why that might make you happy; but humor involves more than "news you like".
BTW, as for third-party status -- the country has swung VIOLENTLY to the right in recent months. Polls show Americans rejecting the democrats' actions on every major issue since Obama took office, and that self-identified conservatives outnumber liberals by nearly 2-to-1.
So laugh it up. You may not have much longer to enjoy this little ride.
And THAT's funny (irony; it's an intellectual thing, you wouldn't get it).
Well said Joe
Nice try, RegularJoe. From http://www.marxists.org/glossary/terms/f/a.htm#fascism:
"Fascism is right-wing, fiercely nationalist, subjectivist in philosophy, and totalitarian in practice. It is an extreme reactionary form of capitalist government."
It is not simply some sub-genre of socialism.
Kuranes, I hope you won't mind if I use a more authoritative source for the definition of English words: Webster's Dictionary. First definition (not #27, or 6 or even #2): 1 often capitalized : a political philosophy, movement, or regime (as that of the Fascisti) that exalts nation and often race above the individual and that stands for a centralized autocratic government headed by a dictatorial leader, severe economic and social regimentation, and forcible suppression of opposition.
I'll give you that Obama isn't nationalist -- since he doesn't seem to like this country much at all -- but otherwise, it's right on the money. Rather than placing nation or race above the individual, it places political party in that role. Those who don't fall in line are called "mobs", "unpatriotic", "racist', etc. They're certainly for a centralized, autocratic government! Economic regimentation? We have the government closing car dealers, appointing the pres of GM, deciding who gets how much salary or bonus. Social regimentation? Well, they've not really managed that very well yet, but between cap & trade and cash for clunkers, all but the wealthy will have to live in centrally located apartments and take the bus. If they get card-check, we'll all have to join unions, which will keep tabs on us.
So no, fascist isn't so far-fetched. It's a lot closer than America has ever been before.
Hey, 41 is young! Anywhere! Anybody! All the time!
Gotta agree with you for once, squiggy. From where I'm looking, 41 is WAY young. She's a mere, callow youth!
I should be so young! We're not voting for Sr. Class President, after all. Besides, in terms of the voting public, 41 is VERY young. She's only 23 years into what, for most people, is at least 60 voting years. She's old enough to be a grown-up and have accomplished something, but still younger than the majority of voters.
I never cared about Palin's looks, nor about this lady's; but if it mattered, THIS conservative thinks Ayotte is somewhat more attractive. Heck, Palin was never really "hot", just "hot (for a politician)". And there's a good chance Ayotte is going to have a better "user interface" -- speech and mannerisms that will be more broadly acceptable. I don't know if she's more intelligent (I don't question Palin's intelligence); but I'd bet she's better informed (I do question Palin on that score -- at least on issues of national importance). If she is well-informed and can present herself in a way that Americans broadly find acceptable, she may have a shot.
The things that drove Palin's popularity with conservatives were her conservative views, her integrity (bogus trumped up charges that all get dismissed don't really reflect on that), and her "folksiness" -- which was really about us feeling like she understood normal people. We liked that we could vote for a woman, putting the lie to the notion that we have anything against strong women. I don't think there were many who really cared much what she looked like.
RegularJoe, IMO, a good part of Palin's popularity is that she speaks out against some of the Republican trough swilling as well as the Democratic Party total anti-Americanism. Just the fact that she can drive the likes of Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews into spittle-spewing fits in their hatred has to have an upside. It takes a particularly empty-headed Obot to blindly swallow their bile.
To be fair, Obama was considered young when he started running for president and he was older than her...but I do get your point.
Maybe I need glasses but Kelly Ayotte is a much better looking woman than Sarah Palin
I live in the state of NH and let me say from experience.
Ayotte is about as glamorous as women get in this state.
Ba dump bump!
The GOP needs to make inroads in the northeast. Ayote is a good start. The governor's races should be interesting, too, especially if Giuliani runs in NY. Christie should have a good chance against Corzine, after the epic corruption that just came to light there and with Corzine's history with Goldman Sachs, who are very unpopular these days. Then Whitman is running in CA, and Fiorina will challenge Boxer. 2010 is looking good.
"The GOP needs to make inroads in the northeast. Ayote is a good start."
Here in New England we like our Republicans moderate. We're not big on people trying to restrict our personal freedoms. It's a tough uphill climb for a conservative in this part of the country, no matter how charismatic she may be.
Nan-
Especially after
The disastrous performances
Of the last eight years.
They don't seem to understand the term
'Political wilderness'.
Well does she believe in the state motto: "Live Free or Die"? Do YOU, liviapeacock?
Sounds like this person may have some of the qualities that I admire in Sarah Palin and if so this will be a new Republican to keep our eye on. Democrats won't like her and of course will try to do a personal atttack on her and probably her children but if she has the qualities conservatives want for the future we need to listen to her and support her.
To be truthful who cares if democrats like her. We didn't /don't like Obama and do you think the dems cared? Right, they didn't and in fact have done nothing since his election but prove to us we were right all along.
I still support Palin and mainly because she isn't trying to change my beliefs to fit with a liberal belief, and I hope Kelly has the same vision.
This comment has been removed by The Daily Beast's editors.
Very well put by your typical thin-skinned Obamalectual. You weak liberal idealists sit around telling each other you're not the "naked Emperor" but if you look at the polls, your extinction is coming far quicker than GOPers. He will make Jimmy Carter look like an above average president...give it time. All the liberal tantrums won't stop it because your weak character and morals don't sit well with the rest of America.
Did you have any intelligent rebuttal, or is this just a "the truth hurts, go away!" sort of thing?
That's all they've got Joe...throw fits and hope people will walk away so they can say they won. I hope they don't wonder why dems are sinking rapidly!
Nat -- haven't you heard? The time for talk is over! ;o)
My comment was intended for the oh-so-erudite roveisawanker (one of my rules: never take seriously anyone, of any persuasion, who uses the word "wanker").
The GOP is unleashing Palin "Clonidates", marching forwardly armed and militant towards the next Presidential election? Sounds like they have a plan to launch the incidious wave, which will take back a lost America, demographics be damned. Good luck with that.
Do you think it is some sort of "plot"? To defeat the "Black Bush" who has taken over the White House even after demonizing GWB to get elected.
You are incoherent. Your muddled accusation about Obama needs support, like facts, not ranting.
Obama winked at someone during his NH townhall, or greenhouses as some call them given all the "plants." Palin is hands down still one of the best retrail politicians around. Even having resigned as Governor, her Facebook updates dominate debates. There will be many Palin imitators in both parties.
What the heck is a "retrail politician"? Palin is a 'celeb'. Let's not confuse that with administrative or legislative talent. (It would be like Paris Hilton announcing she's planning to run for governor.) Palin's governance record in AK is deplorable and she is not missed by the residents there who think she betrayed them. Don't take my word for it. Read their comments on www.adn.com So if she runs for any office, which I doubt, Palin will be pilloried.
The GOP will use her as an unelected (unelectable) "gadfly" to bother the Dems. Don't for one moment believe that she is the author of her Facebook postings. They are grammatical, which makes it implausible that she writes them. There's a RNC ghostwriter now employed!
It's so funny, after decades of liberals accusing conservatives of objectifying women, that a second prominent woman -- different in a thousand ways -- would be considered a "clone". This whole article is predicated on that notion. When I first read it (knowing nothing of Ayotte) I assumed they must be very similar; but after reading a bit about Ayotte -- not so much. They're both conservative women in their early forties with brown hair. Other than that -- on matters that matter -- they're VERY different; yet Ayotte is cast as "another Palin" -- the very definition of objectification! I find that offensive; don't liberals?
Yes, let's not confuse the thinking of all liberals with the move of the state Dems to try to pigeonhole Ayotte in order to win a senate seat again. (It's becoming standard practice in both parties to start the "positioning" game early.) Ayotte superficially resembles Palin -- NRA fan, conservative, kids, quits her recent job as AG to run for the senate -- to pigeonhole her. It will be up to Ayotte to demonstrate brains, vision, a platform.
Since when is "untested" a problem. Please see the current occupant of the White House.
Did you think Bush was "tested"? Sure, he was Governor of Texas but that position is widely recognized in Texas as that of a figurehead. And, exercising what little influence/power he did have, he proved to be then as incompetent as he proved to be later.
Before that? "Fortunate son" is about the best you could say; no notable acheivements at all. Successful avoidance of Vietnam and Yale cheerleader. His business success merely proves that any fool with money (and Daddy's name) can make more money.
Bush Senior. Now there was an honorable man; a credit to his Party and to his country.
Now, talk about the current occupant of the White House who never ran a hot dog stand. Quit blaming Bush, He isn't here anymore and if he were 99% of conservatives wouldn't vote for him, either. Get a new obsession.
Even that resume of Bush's exceeded Obama's paper thin life experiences, unless you count listening to Rev. Wright (his spiritual leader) for 20 years without speaking truth to his toxic rantings.
"Bush Senior. Now there was an honorable man; a credit to his Party and to his country."
Excellent comment!
But back to this newest entry into the Republican stables. I dunno, New England folks are pretty sensible people, and the current crop of Republicans haven't exactly endeared themselves. There really isn't a lot of tolerance for blatant lies, over the top comments, racist undertones, and nuanced threats of violence like we have seen in the news lately. If she is really a good candidate, I would encourage her to go independent. There is a strong current of conservatism out there, but the current representation of that philosophy is not as widely beloved as some would have you believe - especially no here.
Just my two cents.
Rick Beagle
MrGEAH -- Your postings are delusional. I'd love to know where you are getting your "facts" about Bush Jr and Obama.
George W was a failed businessman, a governor in a state where the position is almost titular, and reformed alcoholic before he became president, riding his father's coattails.
Are you counting as part of Obama's "paper-thin life experience" his heading the Harvard Law Review, teaching constitutional law at the U of Chicago. being part of a prestigious law practice, being a state senator and writing two books without the aid of a ghostwriter? Probably not because it's simpler to hurl accusations than to do your homework, isn't it?
flyoverland: "untested" should not be a problem. After all, Bush 43 had a great background, and look at all the disasters he created.
Uhhh, he was a Senator of the United States, and a State Senator of Illinois, not to mention the Head of the Harvard Law Review, and a Con. law Prof at the U of Chicago. Now I know that being Editor of the Harvard Law Review and graduating magna cum laude from Harvard Law are considered to be just awful, anti-American, "muslin-Kenyan-African," "anti-Christian" traits to the insane, and the intellectually challenged himbos and bimbos of the GOP who think that evolution is a myth, but they're A-OK for the rest of us.
Maybe, but she's not as hot!
Yeah.
Who's hotter?
Kelly Ayotte or Sarah Palin.
And as Possumdearie mentioned-
Caroline Kennedy has a horseface.
This conversation has nothing in common
With any discussion of
Male politicians.
Not enough information (for me at least) to form an opinion. I disagree with her stand on the issues mentioned, but the issues can and should be sorted out by NH voters.
It's not Palin's stand on the issues that make her someone I cannot respect or take seriously; it's her dishonesty and lack of integrity in presenting those issues. Honest disagreement is Otay! We need more of it, and less hate- and fear-mongering.
So, hopefully Ayotte is two things Sarah Palin is not: honest and intelligent.
milarepa, since you can't recognize Palin's honesty and intelligence, what makes you think you'll be able to recognize it in Ayotte?
hard to recognize what's not there.I've got house plants more intelligent than the temptress of the tundra. And about the only thing she's ever been honest about is her ambition to extend her 15 minutes until well past its sell-by date, and she's even fudged on that.I love the wingers here the article discusses the possibility(possibility, mind you) of maybe picking up one senate seat and you'd think that the entire political future direction of the country was riding on tis one young woman's shoulders. The desperation just oozes from the winger blatherings.
It's not about not "recognizing" admirable traits in Palin, MrGeAH. The traits aren't there to be recognized. Hopefully Ayotte is only superficially like Palin and has intelligence and ethics to admire.
If you had done your homework and gotten past Palin's winks and "you betcha" persona, you would know that she has been a disaster in AK and that residents there are happy she quit. She left them in the lurch to pursue her own $$$ ends, like the book she is working with a ghost-writer on. Palin is a publicity-seeking narcissist who has shown some pretty ugly traits while governor.
A majority of voters do not want her to be president...or for that matter have any other role in federal govt. Trust me; we will get our way.
Sarah Palin is an opportunist, much like Paris Hilton. Opposite sides of the spectrum perhaps, but they share the same goal - get noticed. While there will always be those who will always think of her as a pure sassy representation of their views, her actions would seem to indicate more narcissistic motivations.
Which is a terrible shame, because young women and girls deserve better role models imho. Hopefully Ayotte can keep her "attention seeking" persona under wraps.
Peace.
Rick Beagle
Maybe next time all you idiots will actually use some intelligence when you enter the voting booth. Obama is a bust and Palin is now and will forever be a worthless piece of trash. You all should have voted for Ron Paul, 'nuff said.
Is she a religious nut? Or a right wing loony tune? If she isn't she will never made it in the big time leagues.
This is what irks me about politics in America today -- "...where she charmed local Republicans in Wolfeboro with her commitment to gun rights and condemnation of abortion, stimulus spending, and nontraditional marriage" -- only two of those issues are political. The other two are moral issues and have no place in politics.
This comment has been removed by The Daily Beast's editors.
Palin lost to Obama once. (2) times would be twice as nice!
take care, blessings
Thank you for my LOL moment today. You prefer to hang the entire federal govt. on the "talents" of Palin, whose governance in AK has been a disgrace, and an unknown AG from NH. Wow. You either are smoking something really good and have never read anything about either of them or really hate Obama. I suspect it's the latter, given the last clause in your posting. Shame on you for such a lack of caring about our nation.
This blog is closed.
With any luck.
I bet she's got a valid birth certificate. That already gives her more qualifications than Odumbo.
After what happened to Palin and Hilary, any woman would be reluctant to run for politics. I shutter to think if a woman left the bathroom forgetting to wash their hands.
Hey society, when are we going to level the playing field and allow women to run in a fair race. Who could survive with one hand tied behind their back and someone poking you with a sharp stick?

Good article, BTW
My family has a history with Kelly Ayotte when she was attorney general of NH. My son was railroaded into a plea bargain on sex ofender charges against two young girls, 12 and 13. The girls never came forward to claim any crimes were committed and denied under intense questioning by the police that any crimes were committed. They finally made up a ridiculous story putting my son in two places at once for upwards of 2 and 1/2 to 3 hours. They claimed that the crimes occurred while they were sitting around talking in a mosquito infested area. The prosecution falsified eye-witness testimony and unlawfully withheld the existence of exculpitory eyewitness testimony. My son was threatened with up to 56years in prison and a lifetime as a regestered sex offendeer unless he accepted a plea bargain of one year in jail and a lifetime and a registered sex offender. He is the father of three so he took the plea bargain because his lawyer, given fabricated incriminating evidence and having exculpitory evidence withheld, told him to take the plea bargain.
After the pleabargain, we found out about the criminal conspiracy of the police chief and the prosecutor and wrote duplicate letters to the governor and then attorney general Ayotte outlining the blatant criminality of the prosecution and asking for an investigation. Both the governor and attorney general turned us down, thus covering up a criminal conspiracy and, in our opinion, making her and the governor accessories after the fact. I am a lifelong republican but I would not vote for Kelly Ayotte for dog catcher.
Natural selection says look at the polls them conveniently neglects to include either a citation or a link to the polls it's talking about.Of course given the well-known wingnut propensity for and proficiency at just making stuff up they may well be polls fantasized into existence by one or the other of themany blathering bobble heads of lower wingnuttistan which is good enough for the typical winger, actual connections to reality being considered a liability.
When this woman can post two words on Facebook and utterly destroy Barack Obama and his communist thugs, THEN she will be "the next Sarah Palin!"
The is no other Sarah Palin. No other figure in America, including little Barry Obama has her clout, ability, and down right determination.
I'm sure right now that Barry, Axelrod, and especially Pete Rouse, who coordinated the Alaska bloggers attacks on Sarah, as well as all of those bogus "ethics complains," wish they had left her alone to govern Alaska!
Sarah is doing exactly what she said she would do when she stopped being Governor, and she is doing it in a way no one else is able to. She is destroying Obama with solid, no nonsense commentary and ideas.
Sarah Palin has more cojones than the entire GOP, and has the democrat/communists running for cover!
When one woman sitting by the lake, almost 4000 miles away, can type two words on Facebook, and cause the President of the United States to postpone his vacation to answer her charges, and set up phony baloney townhalls full of planted questioners, like the little girl whose mother was actually his campaign worked in MA, then you know this woman is all powerful, politically!
Obama looks like he was kicked in the cojones after Sarah got through with him! His speaking, without TOTUS was rambling, disjointed, and incomprehensable, which is normal for this rookie.
I read some comments here where people call this guy intelligent. Can I ask what this is based on? Can anyone tell me ONE intelligent thing this little "community organizer" (street thug) has done? One correct decision he has made?
And giving some deserving citizen a Medal Of Freedom doesn't count!
Now that Sarah is done playing with this rookie, she is fixing to really take him to school! Having been Chairman of the largest oil and natural gas regulatory board of it's kind, one of the most powerful jobs in Alaska, Sarah has now come out swinging on energy:

Energy is Sarah's playground, and Obama is clueless on this deal. She is going to rip this loser apart!
Back to Kelly Ayotte.
More power to her! It's obvious that the GOP has lost it's way, and full of moderate "democrat lite" losers.
There are only a handful of men left who understand the basic principals of good government this nation was founded on. They are happy to sit by and allow Obama and the rest of the democrat/communist party destroy America.
Strong, thoughtful women like Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Marsha Blackburn, and hopefully "the next Sarah Palin" you have here are our nation's future. They understand what America was founded on, and what makes it great.
I know democrat/communists hate women almost as much as they hate blacks and Jews, but the party of the Ku Klux Klan and Jim Crow (the democrat/communist party) is fixing to have a whole lot of women to deal with. Strong women who won't sit by while Obama and his thugs destroy America!
And you know what, as a guy, I love it! Strong men love strong women. The beta males in the democrat/communist party, as well as the GOP are afraid of them, and should be.
I hope hundreds more "Sarah Palins" pop up around the country, the nation will be much better for it!
Wow. Just ... wow. Truly astonishing.
A mind is a terrible thing to waste.

gary4205 -- It's hard to know where to start a rebuttal to your posting because I'm still laughing. Nevertheless, I'll try to select a few excerpts to "highlight":
** " Having been Chairman of the largest oil and natural gas regulatory board of it's kind, one of the most powerful jobs in Alaska, Sarah has now come out swinging on energy." -- HUh? "Swinging?" Like her Op-ed piece that was pilloried by energy pundits? Also, Palin served for one year in that capacity and QUIT.
** "Energy is Sarah's playground, and Obama is clueless on this deal. She is going to rip this loser apart!" -- Spoken like one who has never investigated Palin's ACTUAL "accomplishements" in energy, beyond handing out annual payments to AK residents from energy revenues, that is. Read this article and then tell me we should pay any attention to Palin on energy: http://www.portfolio.com/executives/features/2009/03/17/Governor-Palins-Big -Energy-Battles/
* "Strong, thoughtful women like Sarah Palin, Michelle Bachmann, Marsha Blackburn, and hopefully "the next Sarah Palin" you have here are our nation's future." -- Wow. Instead of naming smart Republican women like the two senators from Maine who actually get things done in govt, you go right to the wingnuts for your role models!
** "I know democrat/communists hate women almost as much as they hate blacks and Jews..." -- I guess that's why the Dems had a woman as a presidential candidate and why that same woman (and several others) now has an important Cabinet post in Obama's administration.
There's certainly no short way to address your rants against Obama. They are fact-free and bigoted so we all "get" who you are. Happily Palin has no chance to get elected so we can laugh off your bizarre defense of her.
Yikes. Please not another wingnut/quitter. Ayotte does seem capable of forming English sentences, which puts her ahead of Palin by a mile. The question we need answered next is, "What is the content of those sentences?"
It does not matter what is being discussed... there will always be an idiot jumping in and telling us about some millionaire buying Barack Obama a mansion. And so discourse comes to a screaming halt because still another site has been taken over by the lunatic fringe,.They're everywhere... they're everywhere. ! !
But what
I really want to know is-
Does Kelly Ayotte
Use a teleprompter?
I agree with SoulHonky. All these stories are about who is for against someone, yet, WE don't know who they really are? The barbs are already flying, but how about credentials. what these people stand for etc. It's just not enough to say anyone is a Democrat or Republican anymore, we don't even know what that means. http://newsy1.wordpress.com
Ah the liberal women "libbers" are out trying to stuff another woman into a tidy little stereotype so they can attack her for not conforming to their narrow little definition of acceptable thought.
Huh? How did you make feminists th perpetrators of the Palin comparison?

take the time to get informed. It is very important to your future.
Another idiot who can hump and likes guns. So what? I've fired guns and fornicated also. Not too hard really.
Isn't New Hampshire where people don't pay state taxes but work in Boston where others pay for the infrastructure? What is with this gun thing anyway? Nobody will take away your goddamn gun. 'They' can't even kick C Rations and water off of a plane over an American city.
You fornicated? Geeee.Im not so sure that sentence was relevent.Republican's fornicate then deny it all and say "No,no I'm a family man.' Maybe even begining a 2nd one if the birth control fails.
Why do we need to vote for a particular party? How about the best person for the job? Politics do nothing for us. Cut through all the crap and just find an honest, knowledgeable candidate. We should also curb the outrageous spending that comes with campaigning. It's like they are selling a candidate and charging the American people to buy them. Ridiculous.
Thank you.
