Would someone please tell Susan Boyle to at least wax her mustache before venturing into public again?

I have loved and followed the Daily Beast for quite some time now, but am extremely disappointed--borderline furious--with how this section was conducted. Specifically I'm referring to the title being "Crazy Celebs."
Yes, some of these celebs have pulled some rather erratic stunts, but labeling all of them "crazy" makes YOU the crazy ones--extremely misinformed and a danger at that. Bipolar disorder, also known as manic depression, is a serious health concern. The brain, like the heart or any other muscle, can have irregularities. Thanks to celebs like Carrie Fisher, who you even mentioned in the article, the public is just beginning to warm up the fact that mental disorders do exist, and get this, are normal.
Then for you to go in and label all of these people as "crazy" and to use "sitting on the couch" as a way to gain readership only makes the stigma of bipolar and crazy more cohesive. Articles like this only push people away from seeking help they truly need and deepen everyone else's fear of "crazy" people. No one wants to be diagnosed with an abnormality that means they're "crazy." Yes, during states of mania or depression people with bipolar disorder may act in ways that could be considered peculiar, or whatever other adjective, but this is far from how they live the majority of the time. And what's most important is that bipolar disorder is a condition that can be treated effectively through professional care. Though, I will thank you for at least mentioning how people like Tim Burton, also exhibit some remarkable and beautiful traits/gifts as well, deep creativity for one.
If anything, the tone of this piece could be easily altered to encourage seeking counseling or therapy when life gets rough. Emotionally vomiting, so to speak, on an unbiased third person is extremely relieving and not anything to be feared. The mind's a crazy place, for everyone. The more accurate and wholesome information we have out there the better for all. You guys are clever. I'm sure you could come up with a way to capture reader's attention through benevolent understanding instead of ignorant and unnecessary sensational negativity.
Good luck.

Good commentary. I completely agree. There's nothing crazy about admitting your problems and dealing with them.

Yes, mental illness is hilarious! Stay classy, Daily Beast!

I doubt that if a white guy as talented as Dave left his show because he felt the direction of it had taken a turn for the worst he would be cast into the category of crazy. I normally steer clear of claims of white supremacy but i definitely think our reaction to Dave's honest choice was a reverberation of our racist history.

Very well put. Chapelle was/is the most influential dude on the comic scene. His show was clever, witty, introspective humor aimed at a self aware, educated audience-- of all races. But then he got pressure to become the thing he lampooned.
In one interview he said the last straw was being asked, repeatedly to wear a dress. Of course the members of Chappelle's audience are fully aware of this strange desire to emasculate empowered black men. And the fact that Tyler Perry--whose humor is base, unoriginal, and at its core self-hating, is so popular--- only makes matters worse for true artists like Chappelle.
Its enough stress to force anyone out of the business.

Sad mostly. Enormous talents hobbled by mental illness. What else can one do but wish them well in every sense of the word.

how is someone "mildly schizophrenic"? isn't that like saying "mildly pregnant"?
either you or you aren't.
Thank you.
