Honestly, people who believe in universal health care and strong regulation are called socialist in America. Here is my predication for the President's first term:
Global Warming -- Cap and Trade, funding to American electric car companies such a Tesla Motors, upgrades to infrastructure or "shovel ready" projects.
Health care -- government mandate for all citizens to purchase healthcare and tax to make sure we do, some cost containment, "trigger" meaning we won't get a public option until the legislators decide that the healthcare companies have screwed the people too much (by the way billions of dollars go to making sure we never get a single payer system), nothing to help the middle class. If there is a public option it will be for people making under a certain amount that don't qualify for medicade or will be bumped off medicade so they can pay for it themselves.

Regulation --- will never come and if it does it will never be enforced. We had the opportunity to do this when the banks came with their hands out. We can't even get them not to take million dollar bonuses while their companies are failing how are we going to get them to stop high interest loans, derivatives, and hedge funds?

I love that world likes our leader but even if was for what you say case1234 it will never get to his desk to sign anyway. Meanwhile people are protesting schools that sang songs about or president, comparing him to hitler, booing the nobel peace prize, cheering when we lost the Olympics, and other things that I won't repeat. It's sad and it makes my heart sink.

Let me re-state. Democrats believe in a stimulus that does not stimulate any economic growth. Healtcare that does not improve the majority's health, an energy policy that does nothing to provide energy, and as far as regulation, this whole catastrophe was caused by Democrats who imposed regulation to make sure that people who should not have credit get credit. As a Brit, indeed as a person with 2 eyes and 2 ears I'd certainly concede: Beck is something of an embarrassment to the United States. However many of the comments here are redundant, because trust me, nobody over here watches him (or Fox News for that matter - it's buried deep within Sky TV and has commercials every 20 seconds, so isn't the most accessible). However, I like Beck, and I like Fox News, because they are indeed truly relatively "fair and balanced" as they claim to be. Why? Remember, if you or I say "I'm tolerant to black people", or "I'm tolerant to homosexuals", that's not tolerance, because you don't have any problem with them in the first place. Tolerance is accepting something that you DISLIKE and DON'T AGREE WITH.

Dowhatsright - I'll grant you that both Beck and O'Reilly make their viewpoints stridently known, and may not be balanced within themselves, however my point is that Fox News is balanced by being one of the very few media outlet that encourages that side of the argument; the individual shows (both of which are heavily slanted towards entertainment) are shrill, but thanks to the network at least thats a viewpoint that's broadcast to a wide audience. And in my opinion it's a legitimate viewpoint.

Furthermore, the actual "news" section they have (not these shows), is balanced - or at the very least balancing the other networks out there. The widespread media love-in surrounding Obama, particularly during the election, was well documented, and I don't believe people on either side of the issue would contest that. Therefore it was nice to see one network that didn't jump on that bandwagon.

And to answer your final question: believe me, if it wasn't so impossible to get a visa to work in your great nation (even for professionals), I would be over there in a flash without looking back. While all of these countries (even Russia) are "free" in the sense that you can largely go about your day-to-day unimpeded, trust me, the sense of freedom found in the States is light years ahead of what you find over here in the details of every day life. And, most importantly, the American population as a group is the only one in a first world country I've been to where it's the norm that people believe in personal responsibility, take pride in their country and nationality, don't view themselves as "children" and the government the "parent", and seek the making of themselves, without trying to tear down the success of others.

He's leading them down a path (a profitable one for Beck, I might add) where they will find their views and opinions less relevant. This is the same crowd that woke up the day after Obama was elected scratched their head and asked, What happened?

Where did you ever get the idea America was founded as a Christian nation? Serious historians say that most of the founding fathers were deists at best, and Jefferson was highly critical of religion. Crime has actually declined pretty dramatically over the past few years, though this may be due more to demographic factors than anything else. And as someone who works in child protection, I will claim there is no evidence it is on the increase; rather our standards for defining it have expanded, and it is more likely to be discovered or reported now.

The ratings are not through the roof - he beats other cable news stations. Most people don't watch cable news, most people don't watch Beck. If he wouldn't get coverage in other outlets (like this one), no one would know anything about him and we would all be much better off.

Totally agree Max. As a transplanted Brit of 25 years, I emigrated here to get away to everything the US was and from everything it is becoming. Beck is not only doing everything you say, he is also entertaining in an American "sensationalistic" way that many Brits won't appreciate.

What are your solutions? To abolish government? Which specific parts would you abolish? The interstate system? FDIC? CDC? Military? National Guard? Public schools? FDA? The swine flu vaccine has not been tested sufficiently for my taste, so I will not be taking it. Glenn has refused to say whether he will take it or not so as not to sway his watchers and listeners. 2. The Sec'y portrays the attitude of this administration, that we are their subjects and they can order us around.

I think a lot of liberals went through a similar thought process regarding the whole right-wing movement. Some of us are old enough to remember the last swine flu panic. The vaccine wound up killing many more people than the flu. Given the fact that the h1n1 strain is not any more dangerous than the average flu strain people should make up their own minds. In the show I looked at Beck refused to say if he would take the shot because he expected people to make their own minds after looking at both sides of the argument. That seems to be a much better approach than telling people that they need to reject it or that they must take the vaccine.

Actually most founding fathers were not devout as you would like to think. Most were actually quite secular. Did they believe in God?...most, maybe all did ( and if they were atheist...they would not have admitted at the time)...but like Benjamin Franklin, they were of the opinion that they had control of their own lives and destiny, and went about their business with little attention to God.
The separation of church and state in part did come from the Puritans..the fanatics that were chased out of England....they did not want to be pursecuted again when the new U.S. government was forming...probably the only worthwhile contribution the Puritans have had on this country.

Actually pparke, I dnn't care for the race card being played, but I also don't think the conservative arguments hold up very well to actual indepth arguments and logic in most cases. Many on your side are against deficit spending..and in most cases this is a valid viewpoint...but in a recession like we have just had or are having, it is thought ( and history has so far proven) government spending does indeed work to stimulate the economy. Many Republicans get on these forums and claim the stimulus package has failed...the truth is that it hasn't even begun with less than 10% being spent so far, and it has helped stabilize the economy as industries prepare for future expenditures of the package.
Now the usual Republican argument at this point would be "why aren't they spending it then? What are they waiting for?". Unfortunately these things do take time...but this counter argument I threw in there also shows that the Republican argument isn't about having any side of their own..it is just about attacking.
I will concede that inflastion is going to be an issue...but it is one that is better to deal with than an ongoing ressession. No policies are perfect...so its always going to be easy to bash whatever governments are in place.

The majority of people in the America in 1776 were British or of British decent. It was mostly British settlers fighting the British government, who at the time had far more important things to do than worry about, what was at the time, a small colony. Napoleon was a much bigger threat, and the British defeated him. When did your family get here? For Christ sakes, we could beat Korea (it's a cease fire, we did not win) and we got our asses handed to us on a platter in Vietnam. The same thing is going to happen in Afghaistan. Which by the way is not really a war, but an occupation. You can not win occupations, it has never worked and never will.

All that aside, this isn't 1776 any more it's the 21st century.
We vote in our government we live in a democratic republic (the rest of the 1st world is at least as democratic as we are, some more so, by virtue of proportional representation). And yes despite all the BS, a democratic republic is a democracy (before you say ) "it's a republic not a democracy." The two are not mutually exclusive. A republic means that we do not have a monarchy. The USSR was also a republic, but it most certainly was not a democracy.

The government does our bidding (of the people, for the people, by the people). Our bidding has left us in a real mess in almost all areas (except the military) when compared to other 1st world contries (as the facts mentioned above go to prove. And they are only a small example)

Both places are pretty decent places to live...but AMerica would be better with Universal Healthcare..that is speaking from experiencing universal healthcare in one country, then American Healthcare. The doctors are great in the U.S. for sure, but having to deal with the insurance companies, and hospital billing is a nightmare.

Try reading a little history. If the people of Britain had not stood up -- alone -- against Hitler, while most Republicans and conservatives in this country were opposing our involvement, we would have had no base from which to launch the landing in France. I am proud of our role in WWII, but the fact remains that, had we not been attacked by Japan, we would have let the rest of the world go to hell. England was offered a "deal" by Hitler, and Churchill told him to go to hell. I think we owe as much to England for our liberty as they owe to us.

When I have watched him he does a pretty good job of connecting the dots and providing proof, like videos and other sources that you can check for on the internet yourself.
