Why Palin Mania Won't Die
It was easy to understand the disdain for McCain. He seemed to treat the GOP like a dim-witted nephew he was stuck with taking care of after his mother guilted him into it at a family barbecue. Palin, by contrast, was happy to be among us. People tend to forget that she was so popular that McCain aides plopped the Arizona senator next to her at every event. Tens of thousands of the faithful suddenly came to his rallies, finally outnumbering members of the media and Secret Service. Standing beside her with his weird half-grin, McCain looked like a 72-year-old male version of actress Sally Field, who famously blurted out with disbelief "you like me!" right after winning an Oscar. As the polls bounced in McCain's favor—even in key swing states—Republicans were absolutely convinced the election was ours, thanks to her.
We all know how the election ended, of course, but Palinmania...well, it didn't. Some supporters now concede bravely that her debut might have had a flaw or two, though just as many fault the media for harping on her missteps. Others have real questions about her qualifications, but they’re willing to give her a chance to answer them. Much to the chagrin of the self-appointed presidential selectors at the top of the party.
Palin isn't going away (at least not yet) because in her own way she represents what Barack Obama represented for many Democrats: someone who stands apart from the corrupt and cynical Washington system that has let true believers down. Republicans remember that Palin stood up against the crooked Republican establishment in Alaska—while out-of touch GOP senators in Washington actually applauded Alaska's crony-in-chief, Ted "Bridge to Nowhere" Stevens, after he was booted out of office amid scandal. (The charges against Stevens were eventually dropped.)
The rank-and-file are tired of the bland phonies running the GOP. They are tired of Republican compromises that bloated spending and expanded the federal government. And they feel helpless against a team of buddies running each campaign more cynically than the last. GOP voters just might be ready to burn their village down in order to save it. You can almost hear the line now. What's the difference between a hockey mom and Robespierre? Lipstick.
If the grand pooh-bahs of the GOP think they can find someone to push her aside, their pickings seem drearily slim. Version 2.0 of the governor affectionately known in some circles as “Mitt Rom-bot” is currently under construction. It will probably function just as lamely as the last. Poor Governor Romney. Every move the Mittster makes looks like it has first been diagrammed in a PowerPoint presentation. When commentators noted that even his hair looked too perfect, his aides mussed it up. It ended up looking perfectly disheveled. We've had enough inauthenticity for a while.
As for our would-be savior, Governor Pawlenty? We’ve seen him before. He's the kindly local pharmacist who always remembers to ask after your kids. But he couldn't match the buzz of the “Thrilla from Wasilla” if he swallowed every drug in the pharmacy and did the lambada with Tom DeLay.
Dick Cheney? Newt Gingrich? Maybe if voters are seeking a reunion of the Republican Party's Class of 1995.
So in the meantime, Tina Fey should keep her makeup ready and her writers primed. Sarah Palin will be with us for a while, the "first dude" proudly at her side. GOP graybeards many gnash their teeth. But they have no one to blame but themselves. After all, they were the ones who put forward the gritty Alaskan they are so tackily trying to put down.

God, I hope Palin is the nominee in 2012, for the sheer comedy value and the guarantee that Obama will be re-elected.
Hockey mom is the perfect description. Hockey, like Palin, appeals to a very narrow demographic and nothing anyone does is going to make more people like it or her.

The numbers on Palin: qualified 28%, not qualified 70%.
By contrast, the same question was asked about Hillary Clinton -- and 67% of Americans say that she is qualified to be president.

Sarah Palin makes Ronald Reagan look like the love child of Albert Einstein and William F. Buckley. Hell, next to Palin, Donald Duck has intellectual heft. And between the two, I'd vote for the duck.

Wow, cheeky Red Scare rhetoric from half a century ago. You neo-cons are really up with the times! No wonder you think Sarah Palin is a viable presidential candidate. She couldn't even finish one term as governor of the least-populated state, so she's finished politically. But as long as people like her (and Glenn Beck and Rush Limbaugh) are considered the leaders of the Republican Party, Democrats will keep winning elections. So enjoy the ride!

Guarantee? Funny how many believe it won't matter who the Republicans put out there in 2012. Any of them will beat Obama at that time. For that matter; have a vote right now and any will beat him today.
I wouldn't laugh at the thought of a Palin in 12. There's a reason why the mass national media attack her, then attack some more. They are afraid of her. They are very afraid..... as well they should be.
ManchaTheo
I doubt its fear... more to do with the fact that she's so ridiculously funny and makes for good entertainment...

If Palin-mania won't die, all I can ask is, can she?
Choosing such an obvious, power-hungry, vain and debased dimwit like Palin is the reason the Republicans are irrelevant. If this is the best they can do, then they should find a trailer park to rule.
Georealist
Wow..for a second there I thought you were describing Obama. "Dimwit..."
Nothing really touches the core of the pretentious liberal weenie male like a woman who doesn't take any of his mommy boy whining! She understands you phonies (and old Mr. McCain too) who don't own up to the disconnect between your moralistic put downs and the realities of people like David Letterman who reek of hypocrisy and pander to their audience.
Now the best part...the self righteous Mr Obama appears on the show of a man who smears 16 year old girls in front of a national audience one month..and gropes his young assistants out of sight the next!! Beautiful...and then tops it by treating it as a joke and says he has "some work to do with his wife.." Treats women really well..don't ya think???

I wouldn't go so far as to refer to Sarah as the "class" of the 2012 candidate pool. She's a long way from classy.
Her lingering popularity is her appeal to oblivots of the sort supporting the Tea Party . . . those easily led by slogans and buzz words or phrases . . . who either can't or won't take the trouble to think for themselves.

How many times do I have to say this:
The State Run Media must not just "scorn" our candidate, they must have a visceral hatred for him/her. We want someone who is absolutely despised by the SRM.
That's the only way to be sure we're on the right course. When the SRM stops attacking Sarah Palin and embraces her, like they did McCain, then we'll drop her like a hotcake.
I don't see that happening, though.

That's true, but they never will. She frightens them to the core of their souls for some reason. Maybe because she's sincere, a proven leader, charismatic, attracts accross the spectrum- younger, older, male, female, independent, even moderate libs? We know when she speaks that she is a "real" person that remembers what it's like to write a mortgage check and what milk costs and how to change a diaper. I LOVED it when her teleprompter broke and she went on with the speech for half an hour, no probs. Remember "Public Speaking" in school? When she's ad libbing count the number of 'uhs' 'duhs' etc., then do the same for the prez. His public speaking style when he isn't reading directly off a teleprompter or notes would earn him an "F" in freshman public speaking class.

TeamSarah is BACK.
You're kiddding, right? "A proven leader." Check with Alaskans. They wouldn't take her back on a dare. She promised tranparency and truthful governance while she was running and then ran the state like it was her personal piggybank, appointed H.S. cronies to state posts, had umpteen ethics violations filed against her (some still pending) and then quit when it became clear that if she completed her term she'd be a failed governor and would jeopardize the $7MM advance on her books. Palin can't speak a coherent thought on her own, hasn't got an original idea in her head, but makes a perfect stooge for the RNC to raise monies -- while not accountable to any constituency.

Cite your source! Every REPUTABLE poll has her far and above the leader.
She has approval in the high 70's among all Republicans. And among Conservatives, the largest political group in the nation, she has approval in the 80's.
BTW, before Obama sent the thugs into Alaska, she had approval ratings there in the 80's, as well, among ALL Alaskans.
Here's the phrase you better get used to "Madam President, Sarah Palin" you will hear it a LOT between January 20, 2013 and January 20, 2021.
This is an unscientific poll from U.S. News And World Report:

1. 90.33% Sarah Palin
2. 5.0% Mitt Romney
3. 3.56% Newt Gingrich
4. 0.62% Rush Limbaugh
5. 0.48% Bobby Jindal
And WHY is she Obama's biggest threat? Things like this:

This woman is so powerful that she is kicking Obama's ass from Facebook.
She posted a few entries on FB and stopped all of Obama's momentum on his unconstitutional O'Care. And despite what folks think, that battle is still ongoing. Without her, that freedom stealing, Constitution usurping boondoggle would have already passed.
No one else could break through the clutter and get the point across what a piece of crap ObamaCare is.
Mittens, T-Paw, Elmer Gantry Huckabee, and the rest kept telling the democrat/communists to "slow down."
Palin, who calls ObamaCare what it is, and I quote, "down right evil" was telling the communists "not no but HELL NO!" (again, a direct quote)

Citing statistics from an unknown poll to assert Palin's dominance isn't credible, gary, and you know it. Furthermore 70% or 80% of the Republican or conservative base is that percent of 22% of the American population. So what? There is no "most of the country" with Palin, except in your little brain.
Like it or not, Palin is also ahead in another poll: the most UNfavorable public figure (Bloomberg News, Sept. '09). Why? Because she opened her mouth in Hong Kong and superficial silliness spilled out. Now business leaders don't want her as a speaker and the GOP/RNC is facing away from her, knowing that her so-called "memoir" will be the next embarassment she inflicts on the Party.

sippewissett
GoingRogue -- Not that the topic here is Obama, but I have to climb on your back over the dreary repetition of the teleprompter debate from the GOP. EVERY president since Kennedy has used a teleprompter for major addresses. They all, even Dubya, have had WAY too much on their plates to memorize whole speeches. Regardless of how one delivers a speeach, it's the content that counts. And you are not listening to Obama during interviews, of which he's done several or to him in informal settings like the U. of Louisiana yesterday. He is articulate and smart. Palin is neither, which is why her interviews were so horrendous last year. Garbage spills from her brain to her mouth. It wasn't Gibson and Couric who sank her boat. It was Palin's sorry lack of intellect.
benama
The avowed racist has always required the 'inferior races' to be intellectually beneath him or the classist construct within their head is in conflict hence the constant stream of invective to put 'the inferior' class in their place.
This is the reality of the 'Teleprompters'.
For even though President Obama is a Harvard law graduate and former law professor and within a nation whose despicable racist past should have barred him from doing so he rose to the highest post in the land if not the world, but for the 'Teleprompters' he is essentially a dumbass cause he can't read without help.
This is after eight years of the verbally challenged W. Is there any doubt as to what they mean?
And that is the truth of the teleprompter lie. It achieves the above reaffirmation of the classist construct without requiring the agitator to revert to the tried and true and now obviously worn racist tags such as 'uppity'.
The language is new but the intent is not.
And what is entirely bizarre is that those that gleefully pronounce its 'truth' seem completely unaware that their newly formed linguistic gymnastics is nothing more than a direct face smashing drive into the pummel horse. We all know what they mean as do they in their darkest hearts.
But they can't be blamed for their delight for it seems they are absolutely free to use this new terminology without fear of condemnation.
As it is to uppity and all the other cloaked invective there is a requirement upon all of us who know exactly what is being said to call them out without fear of their comically ironic response of 'playing the race card'.
If anyone used the term uppity in context of President Obama the howl of condemnation would wither the unfortunate speaker like water upon the witch in the wizard of oz.
So how long then must we put up with the teleprompter lie?
The answer is simple; for as long as the lie goes unchallenged by those who fear standing for the truth.

Dream on. Some liberals and moderates love Palin because she drove all the moderates out ofthe GOP and into the Independent and Democratic camps. Others disdain her for the anti-intellectual, unethical face she puts on politics. However none "fear" her. That's a popular TeamSarah term because her "base" (and she and Todd who have used the term "haters") HAVE to believe in an enemy in order to justify her defeat as a V.P. candidate and her miserable track record as a governor. But don't hang "fear" on liberals. Palin is WAY too comical to fear.

Sarah Palin scares me to death - the thought of her getting elected is terrifying. I don't however, believe that she is electable. I have never seen someone less intelligent reach such a high office....ooops...I've been trying so hard to pretend the last 8 years didn't happen. Ahhh...thank you...that now explains how Obama got elected...dim witted voters urged on by a protective dim witted liberal media. I feel so much better now.
Thankfully Americans like Sarah Palin survive on their own grit, courage and optimism. They don't need baby-sitting censors in the media to push them over the top.
All these ignorant comments were once made about Reagan...but like her...he knew who 'he' was and what 'he' believed about his countrymen and women. Palin is the same. http://www.reagantopalin.com/

No, Palin hasn't survived on her "grit, courage and optimism". She has made it on her looks and a few lucky breaks in a state of 700K people. Read Gail Collins on "dreaming in America": http://www.nytimes.com/2009/10/03/opinion/03collins.html?_r=1&adxnnl=1&adxn nlx=1255763590-/6 pJxi/7rNegNFnCV33Dw

sippewissett
Agree. You've got to love the oxymoron of "fighter" and QUITTER. If you recall her resignation word-salad, Palin said she was quitting to fight for Alaska. Seen any of that since that momentous day for Alaska?
Palin finally brought transparency to her politics when she quit in order to safeguard her $7MM advance. She "fought" all right -- to hold onto that money. Her crass self-interest has been on display ever since July. She's a GOP "goon for hire". Name the topic for which she will be paid -- energy, healthcare, foreign affairs -- and she and her ghost-writing liars will be there. Rich or not, pathetic.
mathomas
Um, I think you're confused: Palin is the polar opposite of a "fighter" -- she's a pathetic quitter and a whiner. "Oh, boo hoo! The liberal media won't stop challenging me with facts and making jokes at my expense! This governor job is too hard! I don't wanna do it anymore!"
If you really trust Palin with your life, then you must not value it very much.

Don't know much, being a backwoods hick and all, but I do know this: In a life or death situation, I'd rather have a rough cut redneck beside me than a well dressed city dude with good grammar skills. There's some things you just can't apologize your way out of. As far her quitting her governor ship, face it, Alaska is pretty insignificant as far as states go. Although huge, it's sparsely populated and cold. Not much goes on there. She did what she came to do, wasn't that complicated. Were she to remain governor she would simply be a lame duck. The plan of the DNC was to keep her tied up in a courtroom for the remainder of her term, but she pooped on their parade. And oh the millions they spent trying. Now, for whatever reasons ya'll lefties can conjur, she's center stage. 7 million dollars worth of a book sold, before it even hits the rack. I'm sure that number will at least triple. This isn't an instance when a real Democrat is crossing over to register as Republican because of Palin. Dems who are thinking with their tiny head do it, but not REAL Democrats.
Tell me you're doing it because of philosophical differences --- oops, you can't because Palin hasn't got a philosophy of govt. nor a clear platform (unless you count anti-abortion and going after your ex-brother-in-law with govt. resources) -- so I guess we can attribute this cross-over to infatuation. Easy answer: Obama. Palin would be too busy looking out for Palin to even notice that someone else's life is in jeopardy. Give some instance where she showed compassion for others; narcissists don't. It's not all about "fighting", unless that's the kind of neighborhood you come from.

That's the tip of the iceberg with Bush alone. Then there's Nixon....

Nixon was quite some time back dude, what about wj clinton actually committing federal perjury, and being impeached. Nixon didn't commit perjury and resigned the office to save it from the besmirching that and impeached president's presence causes. The "wiretapping" provisions you speak of have not been repealed, they were renewed by this admin and his cronies. The whole world was convinced as were almost all of the dems in the houses that saddam had wmd's he planned to use. Turns out that was deliberate on his part: he was more afraid of the iranians finding out he was powerless than he was that we might actually invade. Dumb choice. The "admin" didn't out a CIA agent, and when it turned out that Scooter hadn't done it they dug to find something else to get him on. I don't know whether or not Bush fired the 6 prosecutors for political reasons, but clinton fired 93 for openly political reasons and no one in the liberal biased press batted an eye....they are appointees serving at discretion so really no has any valid reason to complain....

Pennsy, BHO has kept all aspects of the Patriot Act which allow wire taps of international calls. He promised that he would process the war in Afganistan with vigor because it was the good war. He lied. He fired a bunch of inspectors general illegally because they were closing in on his friendly gangsters. He has outted the entire CIA! He has used ACORN to get elected and we know how trustworthy they are. He has broken every promise he made during the campaign. He has hired more communist and marxist then Mao Te Sung. As far as we know all of his appointees have had severe legal problems and some ethical ones as well. He has no idea what he is saying during a speech unless it's health care because he has given the same speech so many times he has it memorized. Give up this madness of defending this empty suit. He is the true Chauncey Gardner.

Why do you repeatedly throw out wildly slanderous accusations, never back up anything you say with facts or sources and then expect any respect from more intelligent posters here.
After 8 years of "Heck of a job, Brownie" inpetitude; deep secrecy from the VP who would be king; two wars for oil and an economy that spiraled downward on ALL economic indicators: http://politics.theatlantic.com/2009/09/closing_the_book_on_the_bush_legacy .php, you've got a h*ll of a nerve talking about the Fringe and Obama as "corrupt". Your bigotry and intolerance show in every posting. Why do you hang around here? For the punishment and disdain? We know that Repugs are thick-skinned, but you more so than others.
Pilgrim
As an outsider looking in, I can't for the life of me fathom the reason why people still talk about fmr governer palin, i can't reconcile her lack of substance to the republian ideal, romanticizing her will only hurt the GOP...
tommarcella1
REPUBLICANS STOP SARA PALIN IS NOT RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT!!! She wants to make as much money as she can and she knows she would lose badly against any Democrat. God help this country if she is ever elected you think the Bush years was bad let be president. For God sakes this woman went to 5 different colleges flunking out of the first she is as dumb as a post, and is not remotely qualified to be president.

Harry Truman never even WENT to college and he did a better job of everything than your current fearless leader. By the way, Alaska and its citizens were safer and richer and more secure with her in office than they had been before she took office; WE should be so lucky as a nation.....
pacifistgunslinger
Here's a difference: Harry Truman read books, something Ms. Palin cannot claim, unless it's a book on witchcraft.
sippewissett
"Safer and richer and more secure"? Have you asked Alaskans? Alaskans consider Palin a traitor for leaving them in the lurch by QUITTING and looking out for herself over them so apparently the benefits you mention don't amount to much in their eyes. Read what they think at www.adn.com
"Safer" than what? Because Palin talked about Putin in AK air space doesn't make external threats a reality.
"Richer? Yes, because in '08 Palin was able to handout about $3200 per resident from the Alaska Permanent Fund, a socialist notion of giving monies from the oil companies revenues to residents. THAT payment is what spiked her ppopularity last year. This year her popularity plunged to 38% when the corresponding amount of payola plunged.
"Secure"? How about the lousy state of health care in AK? In 2008, before being drafted by the GOP, Palin signed this legislation on "Health Care Decisions Day": http://www.gov.state.ak.us/archive.php?id=1094&type=6 Got to love the hypocrisy, especially when AK's health services are taking a pounding, another part of her legacy there: "The situation is so bad the federal government has forbidden the state to sign up new people until the state makes necessary improvements."..."In one 2 1/2 year stretch, 227 adults already getting services died"..."No other state in the nation is under such a moratorium" http://www.adn.com/life/health/story/864670.html
Your postings are witless. Go back to TeamSarah and rant there.
GoingRogue
sippewissett,
They is no prove anybody died. The fed would not let the state hire anybody else to help. Once this was thrown back in the feds face they backed off.
Sarah answer to all of this was that is why the government should never be involved or run health care.
GoingRogue
God has sent us a warning and you have no further to look than the WH. Obama is like the wizard of Oz. Pull back the curtain and you have Obama surrounded by his Looney toon czars. Wake up people!

Hey everybody Mom of Three is back! Now she or he is GoingRogue. How cute is that?

I was wondering when you would whisk off dialog about your opinions and introduce God into the mix. Does God know you are doing this because he's going to be p*ssed off to learn that you are using His name in vain. No discussion of Palin (or Bachmann) would complete without typing either of those ditzes to God, but boy, is He embarassed. He told me so. (wink, wink)

Thank you, for a good you tube spend the time and hear the truth. (You Tube): "Keith Olberman unmasks Saboteurs Phony Town Hall Protests"! You'll love it! Amazing is the word I would use to describe when a woman who thinks dinosours were alive and roaming the earth 4,000 years ago, and that the War Bush launched on Sadam was Gods will is a possible candidate! Help us all if this country is that desperate and uninformed. Please do some research before it is too late.

Right on "GoingRogue". Well, the elections are a ways off, but I'd definitely vote for her over a lot of the other choices out there. It was amazing to watch the panicked left wing media hysterically looking for any and everything they could find to tear her and her reputation down, and yet she drew crowds and interest comparable to hussein obama's. I like her because I like that she does have Executive exerience- of arguably the richest state in the union. Governor of a state is "Executive Experience" for yall that are planning to try to attack that. hussein had 40 days in the senate as his governmental experience before he started campaigning for prez. I like that she knows and practices the policy of backing off of concepts like tax hikes, cap and trade (technically a tax hike), and giving countries like Brazil billions to explore their oil reserves while cancelling exploration and exploitation leases in our own country. People in other blogs have made various derogetory statements about her scholastic ability. She certainly can do a mean speech when her teleprompter fails; hmmm. I like that at least we are allowed to look up her grades and schoolwork. Unlike barry, we aren't allowed to see his thesis from Columbia (must be an uber radical or even marxist rant) or even his grades from Harvard. They claim he's the smartest man in history but have denied us access to any proof for so long I now won't believe what they put out if they ever do give us access. I agree with HER objectives for MY life far more than I ever did or will with barry's goals for me. McCain/Palin, STILL a better idea in 2009.
NorCalGladiator
North Dakota is actually the only state in the union to be in a surplus right now.
maybe if she were smarter than a 5th grader she'd hide her grades too. and i'm pretty sure it took some solid grades to get into Harvard, unlike: Hawaii Pacific University, North Idaho College, University of Idaho (twice), and Mantanuska-Susitna College. And i'm also pretty sure his grades must have stayed high enough to not bounce between 4 different schools.
I guess it's kind of like the birther thing. You need something directly in front of you to prove it is true when it only takes common sense you bet'cha to see that it is true.
Palin/Rush 2012!!!!
GoingRogue
No, Alaska had a 200 million surplus.
sippewissett
AK has a $200MM surplus of what? The budget wasn't balanced when she left office -- after expanding state government and refusing stimulus monies. If there's a surplus, it came from the Feds.
GoingRogue
sippewissett, Sarah Palin has never expanded state government. You have to spend the stimulus welfare monies.
Facts:
Governor Murkowski's last budget FY2007: $11,697,400,000
Governor Palin's latest budget FY2010: $10,570,000,000
Reduction from 2007 and 2010: a whopping 9.5% or $1,127,400,000
Federal request (earmarks)
Dropped by 80% under Gov. Palin
FFY2007- Gov. Murkowski 63 projects at $349,497,000
FFY08- Gov. Palin 52 projects at $256,037,000
FFY09- Gov. Palin 31 projects at $195,094,900
FFY10- Gov. Palin: 8 projects @ $69,100,000
2 billion for education
6.6 billion in reserve due to Gov. Palin
When Sarah got back to Alaska she froze all government spending except the essentials until revenues picked up. That is what Obama should be doing instead of digging us closer to hell.

"It was amazing to watch the panicked left wing media hysterically looking for any and everything they could find to tear her and her reputation down"
Yeah, well, they didn't have to look too hard, because Palin is just a liar who believes that most of us don't live in "the real America". Really, she is just disgusting, but we don't really want her to go away because as long as she remains the poster girl for the right wing fringe that now comprises the Republican's base, Democrats will remain in power.
classifiedlocation
So she's a "liar", "just disgusting", and "poster girl". Cogent, well thought out arguments that really make us think about our positions...Not much substance there though. Really don't know what she's doing resigning early, unless she's planning on going for the vacating Senate seat. Any hoo, she'll do just fine at whatever she chooses, and you and yours will continue to spew disgusted drooling impotent unfocused rage about that which you don't know..:)
sippewissett
Hard to pick out the biggest LOL moment of the day from your rant, but I kind of like this one: "I like her because I like that she does have Executive exerience- of arguably the richest state in the union."
So you think that someone who governed a state the size of a third-tier city (700K residents) for a year-and-a-half -- with time off to get an expensive wardrobe and do stump speeches, but couldn't balance a budget, had her pick of AG turned down by a Republican legislature, along with her grandstanding on rejection of stimulus monies and then QUIT so she could protect her $7MM book advance has "executive experience". Poor you. Your standards are SO low.
And, pray tell, what do AK's natural oil and gas have to do with her competence? Did she create wealth or just milk it? Ask the native peoples if they are enjoying any of that wealth or is it only the mayor of Wasilla whose house went up at the same time as the Wasilla sports complex (leaving a $22MM debt in a town of 7K residents)?
GoingRogue
Why don't you tell us that the 22MM debt was because the folks of Wasilla voted for a tax to pay for the complex. When Palini lefted the debt was still being paid.
bistro42
If Sarah Palin was such a great governor, how come Alaska could never improve its ranking as the 49th out of 50 states during her tenure? Answer me that, America!
classifiedlocation
49th out of 50 in what, liberals liviing in an insular world denying facts and reality? We'd expect that. Just being an Alaskan citizen earns you what is it, $3000 a year now? That's because Sarah, and Alaskans in general look to their natual resources and energy sources and seek out ways to intelligently utilize them.
dcbooknurse
Isn't that $3000 from revenues from the oil companies? Revenues being 'redistributed' to the people. Redistributing the wealth? Isn't that (what's the word I'm looking for) socialism? Marxism? Communism?
I do admire Palin for being able in her farewell speech to give herself credit for giving more of the oil companies money to the people and a few sentences later warn them about the evils of government hand-outs.
pacifistgunslinger
Alaska is a socialist state; it takes money from capitalists (oil barons) and gives it to citizens who have done nothing for that wealth. That's called "redistribution of income." If you're in favor of it, you must be a socialist, just like Sarah Palin was.
GoingRogue
dcbooknurse,
No, it is not called redistributing the wealth because the Alaskans own the oil. The government in Alaska is funded by the oil revenues unlike most states that are funded by tax payers. High oil prices were bringing in billions. The legislators wanted to waste extra funds on pork projects but Palin wanted to give some of the oil revenues back to the people, to help cover high gas prices. She also put billions away to forward fund education. She also put billions away for a rainy day.
classifiedlocation
No, that would be profit sharing from state land revenue. Don't you wish your state and politicians were smart enough to do that instead of charging a state income tax?
GoingRogue
bistro42,
Funny.
sippewissett
AK ranks HIGH on these documented social problems. Try checking the federal stats on each state for:
* Alcoholism
* Domestic Abuse
* School dropouts
* Rape
There's a lot to be proud of there, you betcha. It's clear you don't live there nor have you done any homework because otherwise you'd know that in remote areas of AK fuel prices were reaching $10/gal last year and people were starving. After months of know how bad things were, Palin and a wingnut evangelist visited natives. She brought cookies!
sippewissett
GoingRogue -- Put billions of WHAT away? You are smoking something and badly need to supply a URL pointing to your source because you just look st*p*d when you post nonsense like that. Education is a joke in AK and in her household where two of her kids (so far) are dropouts.
sippewissett
LOL. What a crock. Alaskans get a dividend from oil companies' revenues. Funny how when Obama wants to share benefits across the board, it's socialism but when the governor of AK hands out cash-per-head, it's intelligent utilization of natural resources. Surely you aren't asking us to swallow this hypocrisy?
PRKL8R
"it is not called redistributing the wealth because the Alaskans own the oil" and "profit sharing from state land revenue" If "Alaskans own the oil", isn't that communal ownership of natural resources by Alaskan society? Does not communal/social ownership = communism/socialism? "state land"? Don't Alaskans belief in private property and capitalism? Why haven't they privatized those gvt. holdings? Do you trust the state to manage those properties best? What possible "conservative" principle can support state/gvt./communal/social ownership of natural resources and sharing profits from the revenues they produce with the masses of Alaskans? Man, that sure sounds like socialism to me. And it sounds like Alaskans love it. Who wouldn't? A free check from the gvt. every year for our communal oil revenues sounds great. Where do I sign up? Can we socialize any other resources or industries? Cause I love free money just as much as an Alaskan does.
jrega67844
If Obambi is sucha a great President why is he a member of the most corrupt gang of politicians in the United States and a fervent admirer of Mao-Che-Castro and Chavez? Who do you prefer a Mafioso from Chicago or a nice lady from Alaska?
GoingRogue
Funny.
GoingRogue
sippewissett,
That is right education was a joke before Palin took office. The change doesn't happen overnight. Look at the education system in the country. IF you want to look at a joke of an education system look at Chicago. That is a joke.
Palin has funded billions to try and improve the education system in Alaska and Parnell will continue the same practice. Palin wanted to reject the education part of the stimulus package because her state has hundred of millions allocated for years in their own budgets for education.
Like Palin said Stop making things up.
defiancegrl
No matter how hard I try I cannot figure out why some folks are so delusional re Palin. Everyone I know that is enamored with her are either over 75, racist, narrow minded, hard core religous extremists, or lack extended education. Not trying to name call, just calling it like I see it.....
shle896
I pray that Sarah Palin will be a contender in 2012. If she is the best the GOP has, then Obama is assured a second term.
This woman is so far out of her league, so uninformed about the world and so full of herself. What fun! I can't wait to watch her in the coming years!
troyriser
shle896, I can't wait to watch the reaction of you and your like-minded, magical thinking friends when Sarah Palin wins the GOP nomination and smokes the lightweight Socialist-in-Chief like a cheap cigar. You can't make her go away by wishing her away, and you can't make her incompetent and stupid by imagining her to be. The Left, even with control of most of the media, can't seem to unfairly attack her enough to drive her off the stage.
PRKL8R
Exactly. If Palin ever gets into a national contest again Obama, watch out! I mean, if that ever happens. Oh wait, it already did. How'd that work out, troyriser?
Thank you.
