November 15, 2009: Top 7 Moments From Sunday Talk

Liz Cheney floats the idea of her father in 2012, David Brooks goes rogue on Sarah Palin, and Hillary weighs in on running for New York governor. That and more in our Sunday roundup.

Liz Cheney Already Stumping for Cheney/Palin 2012

If Liz Cheney has any say in the matter, the 2012 presidential race is going to be a bit of a flashback to elections past. On Fox News Sunday, the former vice president’s daughter said she “absolutely” takes Sarah Palin seriously as a 2012 presidential candidate and said it would be “nothing short of sexist” to imply she’s not a serious candidate. Later in the program, in a discussion of Obama’s bowing before the Japanese emperor, Cheney, in what is either the worst nightmare or the greatest dream of the Mother Jones crowd, floated her dad as a potential 2012 candidate as well.

Hillary Addresses Governor-Run Rumor With Sledgehammer Subtlety

Is Hillary Clinton going to make a run for the governor of New York anytime soon? No way, she tells George Stephanopoulos on This Week. Not only is she sticking with her secretary of State gig, but she has a very specific, Tony Soprano-esque request for how she would like Stephanopoulos to handle the cold, dead body of the rumor: “If you could be please put it in a little box and send it off somewhere, I’d appreciate it.”

David Brooks on Sarah Palin: “She’s a Joke”

David Brooks better get ready for the backlash on Limbaugh sure to come this Monday. Appearing on This Week, Brooks goes rogue on Sarah Palin, calling her “a joke” and “a potential talk-show host” who has little hope of getting elected president. As for her populist credentials, Brooks doesn’t think much of those, comparing her to Ronald Reagan, who was far less hostile to big cities (and, perhaps, the kind of Republicans who live in them).

How did the Cheney family appoint themselves as the arbiters of American Policy making anyway. They get more air time as family than anyone.

Also, Giuliani was a federal prosecutor and HE says civilian trials should be last resort for these individuals?!? Who here believes that a young Giuliani would have turned down the opportunity to prosecute; he would have knocked people out of line for the shot.

How do the same people who claim Obama is pushing for a massive expansion of Fed power, denouce he for NOT doing just that. Using military tribunals would essencially give the executive the power to define any heinous crime as a military attack without a declaration of war. The VA Tech shooting could arguably qualify had the shooter survived.

Get serious. The VA Tech massacre was clearly the work of a lone gunman acting on personal revenge. Terrorists, including the Ft. Hood jihadist, are acting for a group agenda. They are not civilian criminals. Since they do not have a host country, they should be considered hosti humani generis and, therefore, subject to execution upon capture. Issues of citizenship rights, etc. should never come up with terrorists.

The Guantanamo group should have been quietly executed long ago - just like FDR and Abe Lincoln would have done.

I am sure that Rudy was stunned when Chris Wallace of Fox threw his prior statements back in his face. That's not how fair and balanced is supposed to work.

And Rudy's answer should have been that Moussaoui was arrested by the FBI in Minnesota, and not captured as a enemy combatant in a foreign land.
Did we try captured Japanese combatants in a criminal court in Hawaii?

Japan, a nation, declared war on us. They weren't "combatants", they we're soldiers.

Liz Cheney Already Stumping for Cheney/Palin 2012? Ha. The Cheney brand is permanently tarnished either by its own actions or its association with Bush II. The Republicans can do better. And if they can't, then they should.

I don't think Cheney is interested and I'm reasonably sure Palin won't be sucked in again.. But it would be nice to get someone in with some guts and military understanding. Either party I don't care. Just somebody willing to stand up for THIS country.

Sorry, crypto. Your country has been taken away from you - didn't you notice it last November?

I just want to be sure. You are in no way implying that Cheney and/or Palin have "some guts and military undersatnding" are you?? Because that is as far away from reality as one could get.

Yow instead of Cheney for president in 2012 how about his residency in the federal prison system in 2012 he can run for inmates committee at danbury. I knew that weasel look in his eye as he got wheeled out of the white house would bring him back.

Rudy liked getting the publicity of trying terrorists in NYC when he was the US Atty there, and when he was mayor he took credit for appointing the prosecutor when he was US Atty.

It is called RESPECT. Very classy. I think it shows Obama is comfortable in his own skin to show complete respect for another. Almost unheard of in this disrespectful world of ours,

I spent my teenage years in Japan as my dad worked for Honeywell and that is where they sent us. I learned very early on to respect Japanese expectations of displaying respect and this is what any knowledgeable person would have done in the situation.

Exactly why is Liz Cheney being asked any question about anything on any news medium? That she gets any face time at all is indicative of the journalism whorehouse at its most venal.

I try to listen to her, I really do. But about 60 seconds in I have to change the channel because of her beligerent overtalking and shrill vocal tone.

Bring it on! Please, please, please!

Cheney/Palin 2012. What a dream ticket for the Democratic party. I thought a Bachman/Palin (or Palin/Bachman) ticket would cinch a re-election for Obama, but no - it's only getting better. How delusional, out of touch and narcissistic can the Republican fringe get?

Mr.Cheney has his little girl speaking for him while he hides in his bunker waiting for the tortured terrorist to be put on trial on American soil.Cheney must be wondering how prison will be.Can't wait for trials to begin lets get the truth out.Waterboarding someone over 100 times is unbelieveable. That was wrong.
