Sarah Drops the Act
Now that Palin has stopped pretending to be a politician, she’s back to being, uh, whatever she was before.
Sarah Palin was like a sparkling celebrity holiday gift in the Oprah interview. She was just shining with the thrill of being on that stratospheric studio sofa that would rocket her book sales even further off the charts. The only veiled moment of impatience that dimmed her gorgeous stare was when Oprah opened up with whether Palin thought she had snubbed her during the ’08 campaign by not asking her on the show. You could see Palin thinking, as we in the audience were, “Huh? Why the eff are we wasting time talking about you?”
Was it a rare small frisson of competitiveness that made the Queen of All Talk Show Hosts suddenly want to prolong the limelight on herself, rather than hand things over immediately to the mink-haired, fresh-as-a-daisy bombshell who could be the natural star to grab Oprah’s crown and her time slot?
It’s so clear from this first round of book promo interviews that Palin could be the natural star to grab Oprah’s crown and her time slot.
Now that Palin has stopped pretending to be a politician—there’s been zero effort in any interview so far to leave the EQ stuff behind and divert to a policy message—the abdicated Alaskan governor is back to being as appealing as she was when she first made her debut at the GOP convention at John McCain’s side. (Admit it: We loved her at first when she thumbed-over-the-shoulder the now famous crowd-pleaser “The governor’s private plane? I put it on eBay!”)
• Tina Brown: Sarah Palin, the Musical With Oprah, she was once again fun when she shafted Levi Johnston, that feckless dope of a near-miss son-in-law. She was wonderfully sly when, the next day, Barbara Walters on Good Morning America gravely quoted McCain adviser Steve Schmidt’s assessment that as VP she would have been an unmitigated disaster. With a roguish smile, Palin responded, “That sounds like Steve Schmidt!” And the appearance of her genuinely fond-seeming teenage daughter Willow with her younger sister—cute-as-can-be Piper, who told Barbara it was “sad” when her mother was criticized—gave us, for the first time, a whiff of authentic Palin family feeling.
• Shushannah Walshe: Palin’s Katie Couric Lies
• Benjamin Sarlin: 10 Palin Hits the Leakers MissedI believed her 100 percent, by the way, when she told Oprah she had not been fearful of the American public finding out about Bristol’s pregnancy: “Gosh, the only skeleton that I have to confess to is I did get a 'D' 22 years ago in a college course.” Of course that’s what Palin was fearful of, because that was the only true thing she had to fear—that America would discover that she knew, in her own inimitable phrase, “bullcrap” about the policy issues or international affairs. In that sense, she was right to resent the campaign’s effort to suppress her and keep her away from the traveling media. She knew she only had her charm to go on, but Schmidt & Co. kept trying to cram her head with index cards masquerading as a vice-presidential education. She stayed cocky after the Couric debacle because she knew the dawning revelation of her ignorance was the campaign’s fault, not hers.
• More Daily Beast contributors on Palin’s book tour. My only regret in this recent series of star turns was Palin’s denunciation of the current Newsweek cover to her Facebook following as “sexist.” That’s the boring old fake-gravitas Sarah speaking. The Newsweek cover shot, a months-old Google chestnut from Runner's World of sassy Sarah in shorts, didn’t show much journalistic enterprise on the magazine’s part, but you can hardly call it sexist. No one cried sexism when New York magazine took a photo of fallen Gov. Eliot Spitzer and added the word “brain” with an arrow to his crotch. And circa 1994 we were all happy to ogle Bill Clinton in his running shorts and never called out the media’s ethical judgment. If you don’t want the moment captured on film, don’t show up in sporty hot pants for a photo shoot. But Palin, like Carrie Prejean, is savvy enough to know that umbrage is a great Day 3 story when you are running the media marathon.
Indeed, her “hurt” retaliation is probably doing the same thing for Newsweek’s sales as what she suggests an appearance on her old foe Letterman’s show would do for the sales of her book (hint, hint). Everyone is someone else’s catalyst for selling something these days. And right now, by golly, Sarah Palin is out there selling herself.

Another wonderful column: insight with hard, sharp sarcasm, always hitting the nail on the head.
We must admit that Palin's getting-away-with-it counter-accusations - keeping critics on the defensive, never introspecting - are symptoms of the same mentality in her supporters. They WANT to believe that she is what her persona says she is, not what she does. The most amazing thing is that Palin probably believes everything she says - it is the hour of the sincere demagogue, the Christian narcissist.
JohnConnughton
Interesting tactic, that keeping critics off-balance. Remember the Al Gore-GW Bush debates? Instead of answering the question, all GW did ws to say-5 or 6 times it seems-"well there you go again, Al."
Al Gore rolled his eyes. He must have felt like a professor debating some silly freshman. Then, since he took flack for that, he rolled over in the next debate. The rest is history.
Al should have seized George by the lapels and shook him, and said just answer the effin' question! But I don't think Sarah would even understand that. Her mind does not seem to operate from cause to effect.
shortcourse
I suggest you listen to her interviews with someone who doesn't ask her dumbass questions...you can start with Mike Levinson...then read the Rush Limbaugh transcripts...go to the Hannady interview...maybe Walters and OReilly...if that doesn't change your left handed brain...well there you go again....
nickels1
dito.
she can turn, spin well too. when katie asked about her reading material, she turned it to a slam on alaskans. this is where she is considered inteligent but is really slippery.
Desertpenguin
Sarah Palin is in the media so often because America is obsessed with vampires.
Any kind of vampire will do, as long as sucks the life out of something.
Palin sucks the life out of everything, whether it's intelligent discussion, important social issues, strength of character, family obligations, or the gone-but-not-forgotten concept of unity.
She is petty, childish, weak, devious, unprincipled, and the very definition of self-centered and selfish.
shortcourse
were you a John Edwards supporter....sounds like it...
diamondgirl
Palin is getting her just desserts. You libs have bashed her into SUCCESS!
You can thank your stupid liberal left leaning hearts for that, the more you bash the more she makes, not only money but people like her. So keep up the good work losers...LOL
easton
I wasn't aware that Sarah was sharing her money with you, why else would you possibly care if she is a financial success? I have zero problem with her raking in the money, she has a down's syndrome child she will need to take care of for the rest of her life, and set up a fund so he can be taken care of after she dies, and since she will never be President, why would you think any liberal would be bothered by this?
One thing you don't realize, after 10 million or so, the money just becomes redundant, and becomes corrosive. This is why Bill Gates and Warren Buffett are so aggressive in giving the money away.
diamondgirl
easton, How did you get I was sharing her money from my comment?you are going to have to do better than that if you want to win a argument or point. That was pathetic.
jburrey2
Slanted journalism was gushing all over Obama and family while they criticized Palin with biased, gottch interviews. (Katie Couric) Even sending journalist to Alaska to denegarate her family and hometown. Palin represented woman who were marginalized by the last election, Hillary Clinton for example who at least pieced the glass ceiling with far superior qualifications than Obama. Palin represents woman who want a voice in politics, speaking for millions of Americans who feel marginlized by escallating taxes and the press who practice "opinion reporting."
cbeenthere
easton-
Not to worry you did win the imaginary argument that dg thought was going on.
jburry-Speak for yourself in regard to what you think Palin represents to women. I did not and don't buy her bill of goods in any way, shape or form.
oaklynne
zirc, easton was pointing out that although palin is making money off her score-settling and vengeful little"memoir," it is unimportant and says nothing about her political value. But you, her chief fan, seem pretty excited about the fact that she is cashing in on her celebrity status. Celebrities get rich, but it doesn't make them important, or worth paying any attention to. LOL.
BovaryfromBeyond
Am I alone in this observation or are the comments from the "stupid liberal left leaning hearts" pithy, measured, intelligent? And those deriding those comments banal, aggressive, slamming? Read a book, diamondgirl. Though perhaps it shouldn't be Palin's.
empressaw
Cubiczgirl, you seem very hostile. Is it because you have the same psychological issues that your girl palin has? I mean it is quite obvious to us on the elite left that palin does not feel worthy of our acceptance or respect, and rightly so. That is why she is trying her VERY best to come across as "rogue". Being the manipulator that she is, she's figured out that if she puts on her "I don't care what you think of me" attitude, she's going to get some credit from people who really matter, (educated liberals), and not the back woods, white trash people she appeals to. Based on the other posts you've written, I can definitely see the similarities between you and your girl palin. And too bad for you, that's not a compliment...
devadasi
diamondgirl...palin doesn't need us liberals for her to succeed.....there's enough ignorant people, like the birthers and the deathers, with too much time on their hands, who have been dupped into believing palin is their messiah. sarah is only the latest right wing christian cult leader and you've been had.
gak001
You sound like a 10 year old making an argument in the schoolyard. It's really a shame there aren't checks on procreation.
tinahaze22
Your seething anger is just under the surface...barely, though. It couldn't be more obvious than if you screamed it fro the rooftops. As far as stupidity goes, there is enough to go around on all sides. You know Sarah Palin is without any substance...she has disappointed you, and it's hard to admit defeat. The best thing for all of you Sarah lovers to do is to cut your losses and find a worthy leader. You're right, she is making lots of money...off of the stupidity of those who believe in her. She believes in you, too...as she counts her cash.
mcasio
jburrey2,
What about the media's coverage of Rev. Wright, Bill Ayers, and the birther movement. just to name three. All major mainstream media outlets, even the most liberal ones, reported on these stories at length and ran with the stories for quite a while. The media has done its fair share of gushing (as it did upon Palin's initial emergence onto the national stage) for Obama, but they took their shots at him, too. Be fair.
olive007
As long as the liberals keep Palin front and center, the Republicans have no hope of winning a national election. Palin is ithe only one profiting here, other than the media outlets, but perhaps you vicariously enjoy her new found wealth, since it's mostly likely as close to money as you'll get. Don't press your nose too hard against the window.
StellaRay
Yeah, well I'm wih you this far. Nothing succeeds like being nototious. Palin is notorious for SO much after, can it be true?--- less than a year in a half.
Where we part ways is in your delusion that more people like her. They don't. And EVERY poll shows that. Palin has the same people behind her she did in November of last year. It's not enough for a career in politics.
No, Palin is a modern day version of the freak tent. That place you don't really want to be seen walking into, but you take your chances and go anyway.
debbieqd
You write very well, yourself. Life lesson: Dumb people are sly.
johnwr3
Tina...do you really think you have any credibility in commenting on Sarah Palin?
We all know your political beliefs and understand that Sarah could have freed the slaves and you'd still find something to complain about. If you want the Daily Beast to succeed acting like Keith Olbermann is not a good strategy. I read this site hoping that you'll soon figure out that the "press" has a sacred obligation to report the news not gossip or ridicule or demean. Sarah Palin is an American woman who has done more with her life than almost anyone I can think of...I love Hillary but she wasn't a VP candidate. Please try and find real stories of substance that make me say my time invested here is worth it.
motrbotr
...except the Daily Beast is not "press" its opinion. Mostly wrong, but still opinion. I have continued to try to give this site it's chance to win me over but the continuous Palin bashing is relentless and just downright juvenille. Im about done with the Daily Beast.
jarussell
Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out.
davewtf
I can think of TONS of people who have done more with their life than Sarah Palin... Barack Obama is a good example.
There are WAY too many things wrong with Sarah Palin. You can start with the fact that she has the same disdain towards education that our last fearless leader had. Look at the mess that he left behind.
How about her proudly stating her absolute ignorance on so many subjects, such as evolution. Hell, Sarah Palin is not only proud of her ignorance, she wears it as a badge of honor.
She is as corrupt as they come, as has been well documented. This does not make her unique, just more of the same.
Damn, the list of her flaws is long and glorious. The thing that bothers me so much is that she is EVERYWHERE in the news. As pretty as her face is, I really don't have a desire to see it any more. and to have to listen to her on top of that?!? Pure torture!
We do agree on one point, stories on her are, for the most part, a waste of one's time...
chruchof1
3rd in line for the presidency trumps ridiculed (and rightly so) VP candidate any day.
oaklynne
buh bye, motrobtr. we'll miss your wrong opinions.
puddlejump
This blog isn't written by journalists--a profession peopled by those who have surrendered their obligation to be unbiased and leave personal opinions out of their story. But that having been said, Ms Brown could still have decided to show personal integrity in her writing and who she chooses to publish here, but I don't see it. What I do see is a visually nicer version of the National Enquirer with its slandereous ,cheap shot stories and crazy nutso made up out of who cloth pieces.
gameon
You people are hillarious.Any conservative that makes the liberals this crazy is a good thing.
Lots of harsh judgements from a bunch of people who just elected a completely unproven community organizer for president. He was handed his senate seat ,he didn't win it through his own worth. He's a worse spender than Bush by a long shot and his foreign policy gaffs are embarrassing. How do you libs. feel justified talking trash about Palin? Is it because when she speaks every other word isn't "uh" like Obama?
People with values scare liberals.
amanda07070
Back up every one of your comments with facts please. We're waiting. . .
amanda07070
That question was for gameon. Still waiting. . .
gameon
Apparently amanda you don't understand the concept of an "opinion."But I will in an effort to be fair tell you where i'm coming from.
Pres. Obama ran against Alan Keyes,a man who couldn't even get elected to the senate in his own state much less in Illinois.Jack Ryan the repub.primary winner was accused of trying to have sex with his wife in sex clubs and had to drop out of the race, leaving the opening for keyes who never even had a chance.Which is why I think he was handed his senate seat. You know, kinda like when the globetrotters play the capitols.Sure the capitols could win ,technically, but it's just not going to happen.
As for Obama's spending vs. Bush;Bush's deficits over his 8 years average out to approx.$260 billion per year with the national debt going from 5 trill. to 10 trill..Obama's deficit this year from what I can gather is $1.6 trillion with a projected $9 trillion being added to the national debt over the next decade to pay for his programs. And that's just for the programs that he's come up with in his first 10 months in office. That info. came out of the white House in August.
As far as obama's foreign policy gaffs that embarass me,the most recent is Japan.Even if it were appropriate for heads of state to bow, which it isn't,his bow would have still been excessive.A 15 degree bow is the most common way to show extreme respect in japan,Obama's 90 degree bow is excessive for the average japanese person and completely outside traditional presidential behavior and typical protocol between heads of state.I found it embarassing and a slap in the face to what this country is founded on,which is the equality of all people and the idea that nobody is divine and deserving of worship.
As for Obama saying "Uh"you need only to watch one of his unscripted press conferences to see that i'm right.
So now that i've given you my reasons for what I wrote,I hope you will tell me how i'm wrong and the facts behind your reasoning. It's only fair right?
gameon
Amanda07070,we're still waiting...
Jaygim
The bowing thing is not an Obama gaffe, it's a typical, condescending white American gaffe and posture toward Asia; you know, let me bow properly in the way I think it should be done, practice my hand in chopsticks and say "arigato" like the cretins in Lost in Translation. It's just shame that such ignorance also travels upward to the higher ups.
gameon
Perhaps Jaygim, but it's still pretty lame ,no matter what the custom is, to have an American president bowing to a Japanese Emperor,in my humble opinion.
tomandlou
All the retoric about how great Palin is gets lost in the analysis of her record in Alaska . How about the lies and twisting of the truth ? I forgot ! She's washed in the blood which leave's her free to do anything she pleases with impunity.SHE"S ONE OF THE CHOSEN It's beyond belief anyone lends her any credibility aside from street smarts and thats a stretch.Give her time she'll break the bubble.
magicman
This is a good article. You write well. You see well, too. The media hype surrounding Palin and her book, the jogging shorts Newsweek cover, and the possibility of a tete-a-tete with Letterman, all confirm a vital and entertaining media figure in the making. What with Glenn Beck and Rushbo appealing to absolutely no women whatsoever, a kinder, friendlier Palin persona would go a long way towards encouraging women to vote for Republican Candidates. There is an oil slick side to this that is most appealing to the minds of Republican Strategists and may prove valuable to Republicans in a way that has not yet been foretold.
This is a very astute political observation and prediction that you are implying in your writings, and one which may find greater steam as it is picked up by others, who perhaps are not nearly as foresighted as you appear to be in writing this article. This might be one of your best articles to date, based solely on it's observational value. Kudos to you Tina Brown!

Fawning over Palin as has been done here affirms for me what I've though about the author before - Ms. Brown seems to have a very similar personality to Ms. Palin. Neither one of them is nice.
sophia5
" similar personality "
You're kidding, right ? Sarcasm ?
Tina has a brain, knowledge of World Affairs,
and can string articulate sentences together.
diamondgirl
Sophia, It's so sad that you haven't learned how to read or see, because Palin is doing an Outstanding Job in all interviews now that she doesn't have McCain staffers up her @ss. She knows about all things if you watch her. As for stringing articulate sentences together, she has become a Multi Millionaire from writing a book, do you live under a rock? PIN HEAD LIB BASHER. My guess you haven't done that in your lifetime???LOL
rustywheeler
"She knows about all things if you watch her."
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
>wipes tear from eye<
Thanks for that. Going to work happy now.
Aranxa
"She knows about all things if you watch her."
As my sage seven year old recently said "The people who think they know everything are really the dumbest."
diamondgirl
rusty, you actually have a job? I am stunned
diamondgirl
Aranx,Well then Obama is the dumbest person in the world...he is the Messiah he knows all.
oaklynne
palin knows about all things? BWAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Maybe she'll go build a rocket next.
oaklynne
zirc, like zeus, hurling her thunderbolts when she gets cornered. LOL.
oaklynne
As for dumbest person in the world, it is a toss-up between palin and zirc.
piktor
"She knows about all things "- diamondgirl
Love it!
mipuppetmaster
dg- Where'd you learn to write? It looks like from the Sarah Palin book of how to string words together for interviews (why the mid-sentence random caps? Are you already drinking this early?), such as her on-air interview w/ Limbaugh this week. Typical Palin-speak. And Palin didn't write the book, PIN HEAD-her evangelical ghostwriter wrote it, as you should know from any news of the past several weeks, if you were able to get up from your Palin-worshipping position on the floor.
amanda07070
Move away! diamondgirl is gonna blow! Her seething rage is palpable. If she could turn that rage into energy, we wouldn't need oil.
amanda07070
Hey diamondgirl - You've referred to President Obama as the Messiah on these posts more times than I can count. I think you have a secret crush on him.
BTW - I've never heard a liberal call him that, so it must be the way you conservatives see him?
This comment has been removed by The Daily Beast's editors.

You would think from the amount of space that TDB dedicates to this woman that she won, not BHO.
Aranxa
It's not that easy to reconstruct a country left in shambles after eight years of arrogant ignorance. You try it, escom.
gameon
Your right Aranxa ,the Clinton presidency was horrible!
opedanderson
Tina,
I have been reading your stuff for years. What is your problem with powerful women?
Why the full body cavity search on every powerful woman in the news?
GPatton
Yo, Tina, are you jealous of powerful women like Sarah Palin and Hillary Clinton? Just wondering. George Patton
loloo33
she is powerful herself, no need to be nasty.
ThisThatTheOther
I have heard Tina speak of powerful women with regard many times. But that has nothing to do with Palin who is out of power. She LOST the election, and quit her job. Notoriety is not power.
Rafter
I haven't seen any of her interviews so far. I plan on watching her on O'reilly and hope to hear something relevent there.
My only opinion of Palin is that she has shown to be an admirable woman. She was thrust into the nation's eye as Vice President out of nowhere. I like her so far. As a possible candidate, she is the first person in years that I can admire up to and until I find out more substantial info on her which I would need to know before entrusting her with a vote.
So far I admire her story and if she has the whole package as a candidate I would vote for her in a heartbeat over what's out there now. For all the people that "fell' for Obama's charisma alone...he is without a doubt the most unqualified President in my lifetime. She was a Governer of a State with real responsibility and did a good job. That's where I start with her and the rest will be up to her.
By the way, your article isn't half bad, but I really would like you to ask yourself your honest opinion of your own reaction had a similar photo been used for Hillary. Perhaps you would have had a different take....or not.
JohnConnughton
Rafter, if you haven't seen any interviews- and there were plenty to choose from-have you done any reading other than these blogs? On what do you base your judgement?
The BEST source is Palin's own words, so interviews are good. You should watch some on YouTube maybe, and listen closely. Then you won't be a moron any more.
diamondgirl
John you are the Moron,
It's so sad that you haven't learned how to read or see, because Palin is doing an Outstanding Job in all interviews now that she doesn't have McCain staffers up her @ss. She knows about all things if you watch her. As for stringing articulate sentences together, she has become a Multi Millionaire from writing a book, do you live under a rock? PIN HEAD LIB BASHER. My guess you haven't done that in your lifetime???LOL
oaklynne
actually, zirc, john's comments were right on - and you are the moron.
piktor
But morons don't know they are morons. They are morons without knowledge or care. There is a gathering consensus who the moron among the commenters here is. She will never know that we see a moron because we read diamondgirl's comments. We know diamondgirl is a moron. Thus, she will never know it, because she is a moron.
amanda07070
Hey John. After reading Rafter's comments I get the feeling he/she is putting us on. No one can possibly be that naive.
eeyore5662
Wow! What life must be like to have Palin be the "first person in years that I can admire." So sorry for you. As for being the Governor (you did spell it wrong), perhaps you haven't heard about her and her short-lived governorship. Perhaps you don't know that she mostly used her position for her personal gains. Perhaps you don't know that most of the accomplishments she told of were mostly lies. Perhaps you don't know the meaning of "responsibility." Perhaps you just don't know Sarah-its-all-about-me Palin.
cynthiawolf
WOW! Perhaps, u don't know your mouth is as fat as the elephant whose name u signed in under.
Aranxa
Note to cynthia- Eeyore is a donkey, an ass like the Republican party mascot, not an elephant. Didn't you pay attention to your pre school literature?
Aranxa
The only good thing Palin would do for this country if elected President would be to resign half way through her term for the first fat check waved in her face.
cynthiawolf
Oops! You're right- Eeyore is a donkey which is representative of the Democrats. Elephants represent the Republicans. I guess there is no elephant in Winnie the Pooh. The girl who played the role in my high school play was HUGE, so I got confused. I was Tigger, if that tells you anything. Anyway, jack ass works just as well:)
ThisThatTheOther
I am so tired of you neo-cons who get your talking points from Rush saying Obama was unqualified. This has to be one of the stupidest things I have ever heard. What makes you think years sitting at a bureaucrat's desk working on local issues equates to presidential ability? It is intellect that matters. Lincoln was one of our greatest presidents and he had been in the House of Reps for like two years when he was elected pres. He didn't have tons of political experience but he was a brilliant man. On the other hand there are a number of presidents who has been years-long bureaucrats -- and they sucked. Obama served in state government and the Senate, and was well versed in national and international issues -- he was elected not on looks or speeches but on ideas. I know Rush said Palin was more qualified but he didn't believe it himself. So give it up.
Jesusfernandez
You know, ThisThatTheOther, I really want to believe what you are saying about Obama is true, but there are no evidences - where are the transcripts from Harvard? He was elected President of Harvard Law Review. but this is just honorary - where are the law reviews or any papers that he made? There are no paper trails from his stint in state government, what major Senate Bill did he sponsor himself ? ALL NOTHING!! He is even at a lost without his teleprompter!! I would have voted for HIllary if she won the primaries. Sorry, Rush Limbaugh is correct on this one. Gov. Palin's records as Mayor, and Governor are all there to read and appreciate, nothing from Obama. Sorry.
mcasio
Jesusfernandez,
Can you point me in the direction of Palin's records as Mayor and Governor. I assume that you have read them when making your informed decision and would be able to let me know where they can be found. I would also like to read them, as I haven't had much luck finding official records for either person. Thanks.
Ankhorite
Rafter, you "admire her story" ??
You admire a woman who tries to gloss over her own pre-marital pregnancy while dragging her teen daughter's into the public eye? Exploiting Bristol and destroying her privacy, just so Sarah can earn a few more points with the anti-choice crowd?
You admire a woman who announced she'd put her six-year-old daughter on the ice at a hockey game to protect herself from being booed... and then went ahead with it? Piper now knows how it feels to be spotlighted in a dark arena full of an angry, booing crowd. Thanks, Mom.
You admire a woman whose home was built by contractor "friends" who then gave out no-bid contracts (apparently to the same people) for a giant ice rink which put her community into debt for the first time?
You admire a woman who fired a guy who refused her illegal order to fire her ex-brother-in-law?
You admire a woman who made rape survivors, but no other category of crime victims, pay for their own evidence collection?
Her story is VILE. Everywhere she's gone, she's run up debt and then quit to escape the consequences, including her performance as governor which you say you like. It took her five or six colleges just to graduate. She's a quitter and a hypocrite and an all-around creep, and I pity her children with my whole heart.
But I agree with you about the current NEWSWEEK cover photo. Totally inappropriate and sexist. Shame on them.
Aslanleon
If any of what you said was actually either significant or true, you might have a point. Since this is not so, you don't.

Tina---I love you---I know you support women. But why the constant vitriol on Palin? It's beneath you to try to uplift yourself on the back of Palin's celebrity. Please rethink your approach to this!!

"It's a testament to Palin's star power that we couldn't wait to get Oprah out of the way." Lol, no. That's my normal reaction to Oprah.
libertyville
Palin represents the every woman, reflecting the real world they live in. Palin is not perfect, she has a dysfunctional family, her life has not gone according to plan, she has to accept insults and smile, she has to force herself to get up many mornings and face the day. This is life, not the storybook image sold by the media. I just watched Nora O'Donnell in shock as she watched thousands line up in Michigan to buy Palin's book. Nora and her party have been trashing Palin unmercifully, but Palin just keeps fighting back. The elitists in Washington, Boston, New York and San Francisco don't get it. Nor do they get the middleclass rabble in the heartland and probably wish they could wall themselves off from middle America.
Garrison
Nonsense. My fear is Palin will sell out to Big Brother and Wall Street like Georgie boy did the first time she's intimidated by a Cheney-type or a right-wing wack-o group like 5 deferrments Cheney. Or she'll simple appoint to her cabinet who she's told to appoint (party loyalists, not people with administrative abilities like Bush did with Condi Rice as National Security Director (?), and horse trainer Brownie at FEMA).
It's not mandatory that I support republican socialists who blow my 40% taxes on guys who pay 8-10% taxes on their millions like FOX Noise personalities do.
Republicans who support morons over loyalty factors should have their voting rights and their heads examined.
diamondgirl
You mean like Obama did, pay attention to the news today and you will see the deal him and Geithner made with our tax payers money to bail our AIG.

Palin doesn't represent the every woman - My God, No. She is an insult to woman - stupid, narcissistic, selfish and clueless to the world outside her imagination. Not curious, whiny, blame-everyone-else, mortally ignorant shrew. Not representative of the woman I know or care to know...
chruchof1
You forgot hypocritical.
diamondgirl
You are a left wing liberal basher, which is common on here, we know the routine. It's not working but I do have to say your description reminds me of someone else, Oh I wonder who that could be? the Obamanator, is clueless, look at the JOBS, that the Porkulus bill didnt create. Tax and spend thats all you Socialist hand out liberals know how to do.
oaklynne
zirc keeps parroting the same right-wing extremist garbage every day. She sure has memorized those talking points.
puddlejump
Gee you got it 100% WRONG.
Jesusfernandez
To BigRenman - it applies if she said "we weed up" (stupid), "1st pacific president" (narcissistic), saying I (The Great I Am) for 34 times in the GM takeover speech (narcissistic and selfish), bowing to kings and emperors (clueless); Gov. Palin didn't, right???

I wish they would wall themselves off of us. They r nuts & broke! And they need to stop shipping their crazy terrorists our way, too (Ft. Hood). We didn't make this mess & we shouldn't have to be cleaning it up!!!
chruchof1
If middle America thinks that Palin has any substance, then, by all means, wall yourselves off!!
Martyz42
Let me see, what is Sarah Palin, hmmmm. Maybe she is just plain ignorant, stupid & dumb as dirt, afterall it took her twice as long to get out of collage as anyone else & it also took a half dozen schools for her to be able to stay in them long enough without being kicked out to get out... Maybe she is just a shall we say a female that likes men a little to much, afterall she did spend most of her early life parading around mostly naked on stage winking at men in order to win a prize or two.... Maybe she likes men a whole bunch & thats why she had a bunch of kids that were all raised so well, like her son who was arrested several times & sent to a jail for kids where he learned how to play hockey & she became a hockey mom, or how she raised her daughter to like men a whole lot & have sex a whole lot & then have a baby (or two) before she was 16 & before she was married.....Maybe she pretended to be extra religious when she & the witch doctor from Africa did their thing on stage in Alaska, I mean Sarah likes doing things on stage, I mean how many VP want a be's wink at the camera on stage & smile at the men & wave at them & answer the door naked with a towel wrapped around themselves & wear extra tight, extra short skirts while they are on stage, Sarah does.......Maybe she saw a Websters dictionary & wanted her picture in it so she just grew up to be the poster person for white trash so her picture could be in Websters under White trash..... Maybe her great husband, the one who kept getting arrested for drunk driving & the one who joined a party in Alaska that wanted to withdraw from the US & have a it's own nation, maybe she just likes him & likes his advice because after all, he did get out of high school,barely.....Maybe she is not lying when she says one thing one day & another the next, maybe she is just so dumb that she forget what she said the day before, like first she said her whole family minus her son voted on weather she should run for VP, then she said NO one voted, maybe she is just so ignorant she can't remember like she really does not read since maybe she never really learned how to read properly & that's why she simply does not read, well maybe comic books at best & make up hand books....Maybe the Confederate republican party is so full of total ignorant people that Sarah stands out as the smartest one & like Rush said, Sarah is really smart & Glen says so & Billo says so & Sean says so, so maybe she is the poster child for the Confederate republican religious party.....Maybe bottom line Sarah is all of the above combined & maybe this Country had better watch out not for Sarah but for the pathetic simpletons who actually support her & think she is special, that is what is really scary, the people who think she is not as dumb as dirt.......
cynthiawolf
Maybe YOU are just a gnarly pervert who needs to quit ogling Sarah Palin. Also, with all those run on sentences and misspelled words, you shouldn't be questioning anybody's intelligence. LMAO!!!

what IS white trash anyway. I guess its growing up in a house with your father who is a teacher and your Mom who worked various jobs, including at church to raise you. Its going to church and finding God as a young teenager. I guess its doing chores, getting good grades, liking sports and having a desire to be a sports journalist. Its going to school paying and earning your own tuition, and having to take some semesters off or change schools in order to work and accomplish that your goal. Its graduating and working in your field. Its getting married to a principled guy, starting a family and then running for local office and progressing up the ladder of public service to governor and then VP candidate. All this is in her book, all of it can be checked on.
Well its nice to know this is the picture of 'white trash'. I wish more Americans could be so trashy.
pricklypear
I would add:
It's not being ashamed to be all those honest to goodness things.
Aslanleon
By the way that the Left defines 'whate trash,' virtually all of the admirable white people I know are white trash, and the admirable Mexican, Indian, and Blacks I know would be called the same if they were white. The Left wants mandarins with the proper Yale or Harvard education to rule over the peasants. We left Europe to get away from that type of thinking.
We should start a White Trash Party open to people of all races and religions who respect the values that most Americans live by-- work hard and accomplish something. Perhaps Rainbow Trash would be a good name for it.

Hey Martyz42, let me see, what is Sarah Palin, hmmmm. She has a beautiful smile, and a smart dresser to boot, with a handsome husband who wears a slight smile of contentment and satisfaction, with beautiful, happy, and very supportive chiildren, with a soldier son who is gallantly serving this country; and you?? Maybe............did you finish high school???? Just wondering!!!

This isn't beneath you Tina....this is just you. You ARE this angry woman who gets catty with any other woman who is more popular than you. Tina, you are just the head cheerleader type who doesn't like it when someone else may be prettier than you. You and Katie Couric deserve each other.
angst7
Once again, Tina Brown pretending to be a journalist. She continues the "I am not in the real world" mentality. Tina, stay in Hoboken or where ever you live and leave us alone we don't need you miserable thoughts.
Thank you.
