The competition was stiff, but 19-year-old Taylor Swift managed to beat out Michael Jackson, Lady Gaga, Kings of Leon, and Eminem for Artist of the Year at the 2009 American Music Awards. Swift also took home awards for favorite female pop/rock artist and best country album. Jermaine Jackson accepted favorite male soul/R&B artist, best soul/R&B and pop/rock album, and favorite pop/rock male awards on his brother Michael's behalf. Sunday night's show included a few notable showstoppers: Adam Lambert kissed a guy and got kinky with dancers during his routine (watch below); Rihanna took to the stage to perform a single from her new album Rated R; and Lady Gaga put on one of the night's most memorable performances when she sat down to play a grand piano and it caught fire. When the show kept promoting the
upcoming Lambert eye popping performance
my first thought was, Gee do you think
he's going to try to
shock everyone by kissing another guy ?
The audience wasn't shocked but were more
like "whatever dude," YAWWN. Half clapping.
Trying to be shocking for shocking value . . . ISN'T Shocking at all.
It's a trivial desperate attempt at making some social commentary.
Just predictable.
Lambert kissing another guy was as lame
as Madonna kissing Britney.

Why would Michael Jackson be in the running in the first place? Did he have some new work?
The idea that Taylor Swift can win for Country and two other categories proves she isn't singing Country at all. Hardly anyone on the charts has in the last 20 years.

from what I saw it was amateur hour! Lambert did gay people no good! and Kate Hudson dress falling off, didn't even really seem to matter. She has the chest of a two year old girl. What a disappointment she must be for Goldy! her daughter is a ho! so sad! What a disappointment Beyonce wasn't there to shake her ass!

It's a good thing we have you to separate the female musicians into sluts or virgins based on their clothing or having slept with a couple of men while the MALE musicians who have slept with at least THOUSANDS of women are considered just "normal". Typical.

I wish I could say Adam Lambert was the worst part of this show, he wasn't.

The American Music Awards was nothing but sex. I can't believe that the touching and gropping that went on by Adam was very offensive. It was disgusting and also a very poor performance. The costumes on lady GaGa was also disgusting, I can't belive that it was allowed on TV, even Carrie Underwood who I considered as a very classy girl was dressed slutty. So sorry I wasted my time watching it. Terrible performances and wardrobe choices, very bad show.

Don't be fooled, award shows stopped really being about the art they award a while ago. This is the most marketable and advertiser friendly of American music.
