New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg refuses to bow to public hysteria. “We must do what is right, not what is easy,” he said Tuesday night with regards to the Islamic center being built near Ground Zero. "And we must put our faith in the freedoms that have sustained our great country for more than 200 years,” he added. Bloomberg was speaking to a group of Muslim guests at Gracie Mansion. However, he toned down his attacks on the Islamic center’s critics. After having previously said they should be “ashamed of themselves,” Bloomberg conceded there are “people of good will on both sides.”
