Nigeria’s military said Friday that it has driven Boko Haram from the town of Gwoza, one of the terrorist group’s remaining strongholds in the country’s northeast—a major victory, if confirmed to be true. Nigerian commanders said they had captured many terrorists in the area described on Twitter as the “the headquarters of the terrorists’ self-styled caliphate.” The announcement’s timing, however, comes just one day before Saturday’s presidential election, which had been postponed from February due to the violent insurgency.
