Six Afghan police, a translator, and a U.S. soldier were killed when a roadside bomb exploded just as a NATO-Afghan team arrived to defuse it in southern Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. The explosion occurred Saturday in Arghandab district, which has long been considered a Taliban stronghold. The bomb was possibly remotely detonated, the district’s police chief said. In an email to CNN Friday, the Taliban vowed to take “strong revenge” for the March 11 shootings, allegedly by U.S. Army Staff Sgt. Robert Bales, which killed 16 Afghan civilians.
