A Chevrolet Tahoe blew past an immigration checkpoint in Vail, Arizona, on Sunday night, instigating a car chase with Border Patrol that ended a deadly crash killing at least five people and injuring 12 others. It’s unclear how many people exactly were inside the van: Pima County’s Rural/ Metro fire chief said 22 passengers were onboard, while U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the van carried 18. “Preliminary reports indicate that the driver of the Tahoe lost control on the exit ramp and rolled the vehicle, resulting in multiple fatalities and injuries,” the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Agency said in a statement.
