Linda Norgrove was killed Friday night when rescuers attempted to save her from the Afghan Taliban captors who kidnapped her September 26. Norgrove, 36, worked for DAI, an organization that helps developing nations deliver services to citizens. For much of her career, she worked with farmers, and the president of DAI described her as “a wonderful woman whose sole purpose in Afghanistan was to do good." British forces received a tip indicating where Norgrove was being held and decided that, given the danger she was in, it was best to try to rescue her. Her kidnappers, Taliban leaders Mullah Keftan and Mullah Bair, were both killed in the raid, but not before they killed Norgrove. Three Afghans kidnapped with her were released a day earlier.
