British lawmakers will vacate the Palace of Westminster—home of the British Parliament—during a six-year-long restoration project beginning in 2022. The plan, which is expected to cost as much as $4 billion, does not yet have the backing of Prime Minister Theresa May. “It is a hard sell, I absolutely accept that. It is a big decision. It is lots of money,” said Tina Stowell, of the joint committee leading the project. “But it is also an opportunity to preserve something that is really important to us as a nation and our identity.” The final budget for the plan must be approved both by the Treasury and both Houses of Parliament.
