Bryan Singer, the director of X-Men and The Usual Suspects, has been accused in a federal lawsuit of sexually abusing a teenage boy in 1998. The suit accuses Singer of preying on the then-15-year-old Michael Egan III, who was an aspiring actor, at a mansion in Encino, Calif. According to the suit, the mansion was a site where underage boys were frequently given drugs and alcohol before being taken advantage of. “The stories that I’ve heard of what went on at the estate are truly despicable,” the accuser’s lawyer said. Egan, who is now in his thirties, says he was forcibly sodomized by the director in the late-1990s, after Singer had promised Egan a role in his movies. Egan says he continued having sex with the director while he was 15 and 16, and that he was brought by Singer to Hawaii for multiple trips when he was 17. Singer’s lawyer responded to the suit saying, “The claims made against Bryan Singer are completely without merit. We are very confident that Bryan will be vindicated in this absurd and defamatory lawsuit.”
