After stirring controversy for an ill-thought-out tagline, Bud Light has issued a statement expressing regret for the mistake. As part of its “Up for Whatever” campaign, the beer company put a tagline on bottles that read, “The perfect beer for removing ‘No’ from your vocabulary for the night.” Critics blasted the message as tone-deaf, “considering the role alcohol frequently plays in rape cases,” as Adweek puts it. In a statement, the company’s president, Alexander Lambrecht, said, “The Bud Light Up for Whatever campaign, now in its second year, has inspired millions of consumers to engage with our brand in a positive and light-hearted way. In this spirit, we created more than 140 different scroll message intended to encourage spontaneous fun. it’s clear that this message missed the mark, and we regret it. We would never condone disrespectful or irresponsible behavior.”
