Gay couples in California shouldn’t line up outside the courthouse just yet: Federal judge Vaughn Walker has ordered gay marriages in California to stay on hold until August 18. He’s ordered the hold in order to give gay-marriage opponents more time to appeal his earlier decision that overturned Proposition 8. Should the appeals court not act by 5 p.m. on August 18, gay marriages will once again be allowed in California.
