California residents cut down on water use by 29 percent in May, according to the State Water Resources Control Board. The drop is the biggest monthly decline since Gov. Jerry Brown ordered a mandatory 25 percent cut in April. “The numbers tell us that more Californians are stepping up to help make their communities more water secure, which is welcome news in the face of this dire drought,” State Water Board Chairwoman Felicia Marcus said in a statement. In April, California residents cut water use by only 13.6 percent.
