Catholic Church will switch the translation of the original Latin prayers used during mass, starting this Sunday, in the biggest change to Catholic mass since the Vatican II reforms of 1965. Rick Hilgartner, executive director of the Divine Office of Worship for the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, called the change “a more accurate translation of the Latin from the Roman Missal.” Unlike Vatican II, when many churchgoers were surprised by the huge changes to mass, the Catholic Church has been talking about changing the prayers since 2000, and many parishes have been preparing for the past three months.
