N. Korea Lauches 7 Missiles

CS - North Korea Missles

It seems the US is not the only country setting off fireworks today. In an act of defiance on Independence Day, North Korea fired seven ballistic missiles off its eastern coast on Saturday, South Korean officials have announced. The launch, which came two days after the test-firing of four short-range missiles into the sea earlier this week, is a direct violation of UN sanctions. While a South Korean news service reported that the missiles fired were Scuds, government sources in Japan and South Korea say that they are Nodong missiles. Tensions are building in Japan, where officials said the launch was a "serious act of provocation against the security of neighboring countries."

Hawnzz

This shouldn't surprise a single person. Internal power struggle, engaging in international blackmail, saber-rattling... typical behavior for the wingnut that runs the joint.

IF I was Obama, I deploy the flying laser, and do some target practice... "KIM CHI ILL" supplies the tragets (free of charge) and we do our part... ;)

Happy 4th Hawnzz, what do you think about the Russian parts in the missiles? Seems China might be upset with that a bit but they had to know, don't you think?

That is about half of their arsenal. They should be running out soon. The will need some Chinese fireworks to keep this up.

We should all keep in mind that we technically are still officially at war with North Korea, as there is a shakey truce, which is why we still have the DMZ and all this ongoing BS.

Remember why there are two Koreas now, Truman backed down to Chinese demands (I wonder if they all regret their historical decision)

Remember how they got the nuclear information in the first place: President Clinton gave it to them, thinking it would be used for powerplants to help their people.

Remember why they are going to bed with Iran and others. They can't feed their own people, which is odd since the South is one of the 4th successful Democracies and economy in the world..

Remember why it is so hard for the world to help North Korea by shipping them food through the UN, because if they get bulk products they sell them on the open market to buy military goods.

The guy in Korea is just as flakey as his father, but he now is a bit more desperate, and unpredictable, as he is trying to build his own legacy and stay in power. This is a powderkeg that will not easily go away.

Every President we have had since Truman has wanted it to be "encouraged" by the success of South Korea. The North doesn't. Any rational leader would see that his people were suffering and the solution was at his fingertips, the North doesn't. The North is playing the same game that Saddam was in Iraq, pushing the envelope as far as he can thinking that as a "mosquito", he can fly around without getting hurt. The problem is, that he may just get swatted.

Happy 4th to all, and may we all be blessed with health, safety, and financial fulfillment.

ConstitutionalRights:

Saddam Hussein wasn't pushing any envelope by bending over backwards to avoid a war with the U.S. Four different hoops his government jumped through and the U.S. still had to have its war. Any objective observer knowing the facts would see clearly which side wanted the war and which side was desperately trying to avoid it.

SlaveRevolt:

This topic is North Korea, not Iraq. Saddam's history goes back 20 years. Any historic observer would see his track record, and on top of that, his brutality. I hate war, but the world is a better place with Saddam dead.

Constitutional Rights,

Well wishes to you and yours as we celebrate our first amendment right in this forum.

A couple of points

1-Truman avoided a nuclear war with China and Russia. The compromise of the existence of the DPRK poses no direct threat to the US, like Saddam did not.

2-If you would like to support your allegations of treason against our 42nd president, please use credible citations. All I can find is nut-jobs.

3- South Korea was a military dictatorship until the 1980's, when the people won their right to real representative government. This is a cautionary example of how long a population can be scared into giving up its rights by a boogey man.

I agree with pretty much everything else you said. North Korea has one of the most despicable, exploitive, criminal kleptocracies on the planet and must be taken apart with the caution of an I.E.D. because we do not know when or if they will go off.

Again, happy independence day!

If there is a more pragmatic faction in the ruling circles of this regime, then they had better speak soon, for this type of insane behavior is not acceptable.

The US should simply allow Japan & South Korea to deal with them... Give Japan the right to build & deploy a few "real" bombs & let them do to North Korea what we did to them... Japan & South Korea are more than able to deal with the North "WITHOUT" our help or money or troops.....

The fireworks display down on the beach tonight has more punch than these missiles. If NK is a threat then I want all my defense money back! Let those in the area take care of this; we are busy enough winding up two wars on the other side of the globe. Japan has the sixth largest military in the world and can take care of things without our interference.

BTW, thanks FOX news for all your "fair" coverage on this issue. We are in a deep recession here and you have done more damage with your reporting than Kim Dong Ill could ever do with his fireworks!

Give Japan the weapons and support. This would scare the living hell out the north koreans. And thank you Fox for scaring the crap out of libs.

The Libs are not scared of Fox news. We worry that the "friends" of Fox are easily distracted by shiny objects and have an irrational fear of the colors orange and red, as in the HS Threat Level chart. It's nice to see that is gone from the Fox crawl. I guess they found that it no longer worked to keep the country on High (anxiety) Alert. Just another example of Fox crying wolf once too often.

I'm not too troubled by NK firing a few missiles. I'm far more concerned about the hundreds or thousands of missiles that the U.S. has fired in or into Iraq, Afghanistan and Pakistan over the past few years with _every_ intention of killing people. When are we going to stop doing that? When is the U.S. going to end the wasteful wars in and _completely_ remove our military from Iraq and Afghanistan?

And furthermore, when is the U.S. military going to stop poisoning Iraq with usage of depleted uranium munitions? When every Iraqi baby is born looking like something from a horror movie or when only most of them are?
