HAPPY HOLIDAY

Obama's July 4th Message

With a host of political battles ready to resume after the holiday weekend, President Obama's used his July 4th radio address to focus on the White House's domestic agenda. Saying that an "unyielding spirit is what defines us as Americans," Obama called on Americans to to tackle health care reform, kick foreign oil, improve the school system, and fix the economy."That is the spirit we are called to show once more," Obama said Saturday. "We are facing an array of challenges on a scale unseen in our time." Obama's former presidential opponent, Senator John McCain, also recorded a July 4th address, focused on Iran. "Today, we stand with the millions of Iranians who brave batons, imprisonment and gunfire to have their voices heard and their votes counted," McCain said.

Some people have to be told more than once.
Repetition is the engine that drives learning.
I hope it stuck this time.

Happy independence day, ya'll!

Politics as usual. He knew he couldn't solve those problems once he got into office and he has done a C job at fixing the problems he did face. Money with no oversight or change in regulations to stop the bleed in the future. He's young in office but if he doesn't quit spending and start plugging holes we are going to keep sinking.

His hope and change is just political speak for the ignorant voter. All we can do right now is hope his teleprompter spits out some sense.. soon.

I agree. People who can't do the math, don't pay taxes or own a home don't seem to see the other side of the story. If you have nothing to lose you can ask for the moon but if you have to pay for it a backyard is all that's feasible. The independents are swinging away from his bleed. Congress put themselves forefront of his campaign so now we will see if they are voted out. The GOP has had less back bone than some of the blue dogs and that is disturbing as conservative thought is the norm for anyone out of college a few years and working. Maybe we needed a younger crew to get their hands dirty and learn how it works. An expensive one maybe but if they have learned it's enough.

I still think it's too soon to tell. The deficits are high because the economy is in the tank. Deficit spending is absolutely normal in times like these. Everyone is running a deficit. (World-wide) The changes he's trying for are vital because if they aren't changed, if left alone they will implode on their own. We seem to forget that.

And if what we try the first time doesn't work... hell... we'll just try something else.

Agreed it is early in the game Hawnzz but we are in pretty deep now and regulations have not been put into place to slow it. At this point I think a gov't insurance alternative and regulation of the insurance industry is all we can handle for health care. I am also concerned about this cap and trade deal. It would be OK if we could drill for some relief but that doesn't seem to be in the plans.

Heya squiggy, Heya malicious:

how long should it take to fix all of the problems in America?
1) Domestically
-Healthcare, Wall Street, Massive extant debt, Environmental regulation, GM, Chrysler, Education...
2)Foreign relations
-Iraq, Afghanistan, Hoonduras, Iran, DPRK (N Korea), Russia, China, EU, the entire continent of Africa , our DESTROYED reputation...
And legion others

What's a reasonable timeline?

How fixed does it have to be?

Make some suggestions, please. To any of the above.

Precisely.
This is a "damage control" vs. a "left with nearly-irreparable damage" scenario for Barack Obama.
Obama inherited a perfect storm of political and economic horror from his predecessors.
We Americans, with our short attention spans, and our insistence on immediate gratification and remedy, seem to think that this colossal mess can be sorted out in short order. It simply cannot.
And even if you believe in a God, it would take nothing less than God's talents to begin to remedy this mess.
And what if there is no God?? (Have to consider that possibility.)
If there isn't...there would be no "Divine Intervention." That would mean that the economic and political woes of our country are going to require many years of "merely human" slogging and hard work to arrive at some sort of sane resolution(s) to all of these problems.

I didn't set a time-line, no one can, I did suggest that there be oversight and banking regulations put into place, as well as insurance regulations which limits growth of spending; pushing back against the insurance co.'s. I think a small, major medical plan to compete with the insurance co.'s is a great idea but if it can't compete what is the point? If we don't drill for oil, get some relief in the pipeline cap and trade will become a big tax without anywhere to go because we are an oil based economy.

squig,

All good points. I reckon those are all things we need in one form or another. Regulations have to come from Congress, and the only reason we aren't drilling more & haven't drilled into the tar sands and shale is cost.

The Democratic plans are trying to make investments in the future that are going to pay off and mitigate the debt instead of flushing more and more into military adventures: infrastructure, EDUCATION, job training, green manufacturing, etc..

and squig re: insurance companies; SCREW THEM! I'm sick of my premiums going to pay for advertising, lawyers, claims adjusters whose job is to say "no", and billing clerks having to know every unique, byzantine policy of each company and FRIKKIN LOBBYISTS influencing our representatives. It's got to stop.

Hay this is the 4th.
I live on a 900 ft hill/mountain and down at the bottom of the mountain is an Indian Casino. They have the best fireworks show in the country. There'll be scooters coming up the hill, trucks (pick-up's) , even have two powered parachutes flying in. Kids running all over the place. They'll have plenty of room, to the west is the west 120(acres). The closest highway is one mile away. It's early and the smoke sure smells good coming out of the BBQ's. Plenty of beer, whiskey (home made too) fresh fruit and home-made cheese, beer, and yes someome will be out in the bushes and will draw a crowd, and they will all come back glassy eyed looking at the stars, exclaiming, "WOW."

Ladies and Gentlemen, It's The (annual) Party on the Mountain !

Patriotic my ass, I fought the little yellow man so you and your kids could grow up free of communism. At least thats what they told us. Hell I won that war single-handedly. I'm a disabled AMERICAN veteran and you send me a check every month, and pay for my medical (if my daughter weren't a Dr.) Even chemo-thearpy. That's how the US treats patrotic loyal subjects. It is sad isn't? Angst7, you need to speak with my other daughter the Psychologists.

If so, thank you for your service.

I am sorry if it is not enough, you deserve better.

This was another tired, political laudry list address. The Fourth seems to mean just a day off to this President. With his command of rhetoric and theater one would think that a patriotic address would be in the cards, even if his patriotism is not genuine. Instead, his address was a limp listing of his political initiatives. This man is all about self interest. Patriotism was not something he learned or something he exhibits.

The Republican cry for smaller government is misleading. Big and bad government has been biggest and baddest under the Bush administration. The present government continues being interested only in the needs of lobbyists, disregarding the needs of small businesses and the individual. Big and good government would meet the needs of 90% of the American people. Let us not throw out the baby with the bath water.

Don't be silly. Government is far bigger and badder under Obama then it ever was under Bush. Only Obama is so incompetent as to be able to combine massive government spending and intrusiveness WITH massive unemployment AND massive deficits. Yes, Obama fans-----Obama has hit the horrible big government trifecta!!!!

Massive government spending means putting it out in the economy, not growing gov't! Congress is responsible for this, Bush let it go on without interference and for that I can crack on him but Obama has got the gov't growth on steroilds!

To all, the only way to control government and make it responsive is to keep it small enough to tell them what to do. As the government gets bigger, it becomes more difficult for the voters to manage, they get frustrated, and eventually walk away in disgust (can you say DMV, FEMA, or IRS?).

Lower taxes means smaller government, period. Smaller government means more eyes overseeing what is going on and less creating bureacracies that can hide theft and corruption.

We, as Americans, will always be better off with a bit more self reliance and local control. Big government will always be the bad guy, and until we stop voting for people who promise to solve our problems, instead of those who will simply referee how we solve our own problems, we will continue to be slaves to the government.

It is time to "cowboy up" America.

I share a snippet of patriotic poetry I wrote for this holiday:

A-t a crossroads she now stands, uncertain of her fate,
M-en and women flushed with hope but burdened by the weight,
E-very prayer, every teardrop at the altar of her soul
R-eaches out to all of humankind -- brotherhood her goal.
I-n these times that try the spirit, may she ever remain strong,
C-hoose the path of peace no matter, for how can peace be wrong?
A-t tomorrow's dawn, she'll rise again, reborn with a new song!

America is not the safeguard to the world--quite the contrary, given recent history and recent military mayhem and destruction. As for North Korea; can't South Korea and Japan take care of themselves? Should the US get is undies in a bunch over Little Kim, however disagreeable he is? Put down the drum--we can't afford another war.

Question: Does anyone know if President Obama signed an Executive Order on Jan. 27th, 09, for the expenditure of 20.3 million dollars for the relocation of Palestinians(Hamas) to America?? As I understand we, we, the taxpayer, are paying for their housing, food, health care and even for their trip over here. I never seen a word of it on any news channel, but my friend in Texas said it is true, and also if you will go to: http://www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/o/obama-palestine-refugees.htm , you will find an article about it, but still, surely President Obama would not saddle us struggling taxpayers with THIS. Can someone PLEASE find out if it is true.

WILL OBAMAS LEGACY ON LADY LIBERTY include the killing of 33,000 AMERICAN living symbols of freedom, our American wild horses?

Today Department of Interior (DOI) Secretary Salazar commemorates the Statue of Liberty while planning the extermination of over 33,000 wild horses against the clear will and vote of the people.

DOI Secretary Salazar typically donned in a White Cowboy Hat is presiding over the formal plans to provide stress counseling for the BLM's workers and other who will be charged with killing healthy wild horses.

Dartable birth control (PZP) developed by Dr. J Kirkpatrick has been available for 20 yrs and has been used successfully at Assateague for 10 yrs as well as elsewhere.

There are easily 400,000 cattle on these public lands vs. less than 30,000 wild horses.

The BLM continues to ignore and invert the science behind horse vs. cattle grazing and continues to claim horses have a more negative impact on grass conditions, even though cattle, unlike horses, do not have upper front teeth and actually pull out the grasses by the roots and have a much more adverse effect on range conditions.

Secretary Salazar, who hails from a ranching family in Colorado as a Senator voted to allow downed and diseased animals into the American families' food supply.

Return to the horses to the Wild Horse Territories , as originally intended by the 1971 Free Roaming Wild Horse and Burro Act, and save the American taxpayers the more than 39 million dollars per year cost of round-ups and holding pens fees.

To claim Obama is not to blamed because he inherited everything from Bush is the height of hypocrisy. Despite his prestidigitative rhetoric, Obama has continued almost every single one of Bush's policies, and lying outright that he has banned torture: Torture is alive and well in Bagram, and indefinite detentions without trial goes even beyond what the dictator George Bush implemented.
Obama was groomed to continue the dictatorship--read Naomi Klein's "The End Of America"--and as for Diebold and the illusion of "Democratic" elections, that's gone the way of the dodo.We and the world were suckered bone dry. Wake up sheeple. Christ!! How stupid can you be?

and,I am one that supports him and believe in all he promised, and that it will take time to fix this mess. But also on his speech He forgot to say i promised many things I will not be able to keep. I did not know how bad things were.We might have to raise the taxes on everyone undr 250,000.Lobbyst are necessary,we will get out of Iraq, but pour more into afghanistan, cannot be too transparent there is no time, need to pass bills quickly.Like cap and save healthcare reform,on and on.Banks will have to work with the people.??Cannot really close Gitmo,(fine with me) But that was a major promise. As someone said yesterday to us,We voted for him because we had no choice. And not voting,is giving up our freedom.Well happy 4rht,and we hope the best is yet to come. But also, cut the govt, size, cut their dinning parties, cut out all their private flying, bad for the environment and the economy, set up real agencies to really help and see what people need, and find a way to get relief to themNot the banks
