2012 Destroys the Box Office
Though John Cusack’s disaster epic 2012 received mixed reactions from critics, it earned $160 million worldwide and $65 million in North America this weekend, surpassing Sony’s already-confident expectations. “It's going to be a very big success for our studio," said Sony’s president of distribution. And although screening in only 174 theaters in nine cities, the critically adored Precious took in $6.1 million in its second weekend of release, sliding in just under The Men Who Stare at Goats, which opened at $6.2 million in wide release. "The exit polls from last weekend indicated strong word-of-mouth," said Lionsgate’s VP about the success of the indie darling. Finally, Fantastic Mr. Fox had a $65,000 per-screen average in just four theaters—a strong sign that its bigger pre-Thanksgiving rollout will be successful.

Any movie ad that causes enough mass hysteria that even NASA is forced to devote part of their website into debunking its myths due to excessive phone calls is brilliant. Add that to every news channel further commenting on the hysteria and you have enough free press to guarantee box office success.
Just because a movie is a piece of crap doesn't mean people won't flock to it and love it! This movie doesn't need a plot--its got incredible FX!
Isn't this the one that refused to destroy any Muslim holy spots in fear of jihadist retribution?
Nice to know that Hollywood is willing to give the most vicious backward cretins on the planet veto power over their artistic decisions....
If you all don't see that it ALL is coming down, I wish you good luck and I'll see you in the next life.
And I'm not talking about what happens in this movie.
I'm talking about using the success of this movie as an example of reality being very unpopular to the average hairless monkey. Instead, glamor and gore abounds.
Take that along with the most popular television programming and books.
It's crumbling, friends. Sit back and watch at your leisure. Pop some popcorn and laugh at the fools as they tear the walls down.
It's gonna be a party.
Off the meds?
Are you the same guy I saw December 31,1999 around 11:30pm at a gas station filling up a trailer full of gas cans with your whole family and all their belongings stuffed into the car? That was you, wasn't it!
Like I said... It's not what happens in this movie, nor has it anything to do with '2012.'
This movie, it's massive popularity, and like similar movies and forms of media... these all are pointing the way to obscurity for human beings.
It is a good movie, sort of like the way planet of the apes was.
It had some great effects, shallow points, and I think relatively speaking there was a happy ending. I am going to spoil it here, the ship, is not a space ship, though you through the whole time it is. Even her majestry and a corgi was allowed on it :).
Sadly they didn' get the popcorn to meet demand, sort of like what happen with the flu shots, they create hysteria, then there is not enough vaccination supplied to the masses, but you better believe the elite gets a shot.
It was a fast pace movie, so if you don't get popcorn before it starts, you will miss something important.
I've seen the promos & will go to see it, just to see the special effects. I never rely on what a critic says, remembering that Sleepless in Seattle was a "sleeper film". The critics panned it, audiences loved it.
That doesn't make it a good movie.
Beverly Hills Chihuahua made a lot of money.
Thank you.
