Fort Hood Rampage Kills 12
At least 12 people were killed and 31 more wounded at a shooting at Ford Hood in Texas on Thursday. The attack took place at a soldier readiness facility, where soldiers were preparing for deployment. It was originially reported that the gunman was killed at the scene, but Army officials have announced tonight that he is alive and hospitalized, despite being shot multiple times. Two other suspects were apprehended, but they have been released, according to the Associated Press, and officials are now saying he acted alone. The Army has confirmed the gunman was Major Nidal Malik Hasan. He had no prior overseas deployments. Hasan carried two weapons, one of them semi-automatic, which explains the high casualty count. Hasan, 39, is "a psychiatrist recently reassigned from Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, D.C., to work with soldiers at Darnall Army Medical Center on Fort Hood." His cousin told Fox News that at Walter Reed, Hasan treated soldiers returning from war with combat stress and PTSD, and heard horrifying stories. According to Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison, the shooter was scheduled to be deployed to Iraq and was unhappy about it. The shootings took place at 1:30 Central Time, and the base was on lockdown for five and a half hours afterward. Among the dead is a civilian police officer. Hasan's picture is here. Hasan reportedly drew the attention of federal law enforcement six months ago for online posts about suicide bombings and other threats. Authorities reviewed "a blog that equates suicide bombers with a soldier throwing himself on a grenade to save the lives of his comrades."

My thoughts automatically go to PTSD, when one reads the article in its entirety, you see that there have been several killings involving young soldiers and young officers over the last two years, and the heading above is incorrect , the shootings took place in two locations on the base - at the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center (deployment center) and Howze Theater,
PTSD was also my first thought. It's very scary for a soldier to have to worry about the guy/gal standing next to you. They already have so much to worry about.

I don't know where that came from but if it's true...it's damn near irrelevant. Anybody on this board that's ever been there can tell you that you serve with Muslims, Christians, Jews, Aetheists and everybody in between in a combat zone. It's not about that. I imagine that the networks will soon make it out to be but it's not.

Only one shooter, he is alive, the three authorities took into custody for interviews were released.

dear God, these were soldiers either getting ready to deploy or coming home, sympathy to their families
I hate to imagine what the soldiers went through, living through a shooting rampage like that, or dying in one. I wonder how the media will spin it: PTSD? Please. Soldiers are trained and RETRAINED and screened at every opportunity for signs/symptoms. A lot of people including civilians have PTSD. No excuse for murder. It's so sad it makes me sick to my stomach.

The fact that there are three suspects leads one to believe that this was an organized planned killing.
If ignorance were energy, you could light an entire city with just your comments made here today. Good lord, stop talking dude.
He was an officer and a psychiatrist. His aunt claims that he had been harrassed since 9/11 and had tried to get out offering to pay the government back for his medical school expenses. It is distrubing that he worked daily for years with other mental health professionals and had been sent for counseling himself and no one picked up on both the suicidal of the homocidal ideation. Treating soldiers returning from war crippled, disfigured and mentally and physically impaired is very stressful and can lead to a lose of professional objectivity and over identification with the horrors of war. If as reported his colleagues considered him an impaired professional and did nothing to intervene then they bare responsibility for today's tragedy.
One Shooter was: Major Malik Nadal Hasan
A few possibilities.
1) an al queda sleeper agent that infiltrated the officer ranks of the US military morons.
2) an al queda "Manchurian candidate" activated by Osama bin Laden using a cell phone.
3) a recent convert or zealot that recently found his "muslim roots" and took action against the US military morons.
4) a soldier about to be re-deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan, or re-re-deployed, or re-re-re-deployed and he just got sick of it all and wanted out, permanently.
5) a soldier with sexual pecadilloes with rival US military morons that decided to eliminate his sexual rivals once and for all
6) a mentally ill US military moron, though the term "mentally ill US military moron" is multiply redundant.
7) a US military moron that was unhappy with all the free federal govt. give-aways and freebies, he wanted more give-aways and more free handouts from US taxpayers.

Hasan Akbar, of the 101st Airborne Division, was sentenced to death for a grenade attack on fellow soldiers in March 2003 in Kuwait, at the beginning of the American-led war in Iraq. Sergeant Akbar, who was the first American since the Vietnam era to be prosecuted on charges of murdering a fellow soldier in wartime, was convicted of premeditated murder and attempted premeditated murder after he threw grenades into tents and then opened fired on soldiers. He killed two officers and wounded 14 soldiers at Camp Pennsylvania. He was a Muslim. Hmmm. What a surprise.

Hasan was single with no children. He was born in Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech University, where he was a member of the ROTC and earned a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1997. He received his medical degree from the military's Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences in Bethesda, Md., in 2001. He did his internship, residency and a fellowship at Walter Reed.

His parents or Grandparents were from Jordan. I heard Hutchinson and she never question why this natural born citizen was in the military and had been since he graduated from high school. He went to medical school through the military but relatives claim that he had been severely harassed since 9/11 and had tried to pay the military back and resign. Would it make it more acceptable if he were a teabagging Glenn Beck redneck?

Just because Dr. Hasan was a doctor doesn't mean he wasn't also an Islamic nutjob.
First of all we do not know what this guy's motives were, you are just assuming based on his religious beliefs.
Secondly, the 'Islamic nutjobs' only attacked one airport and it was in Scotland as was the hospital they worked in, not England. It was hardly a terrorist attack, Glasgow has seen more violent stag parties go through the airport than that non event. Hence the local news reporting it as confusing rather than anything else.
