Balloon Boy Parents to Plead Guilty

Balloon Boy's parents are expected to plead guilty to criminal charges in a Larimer County, Colorado court on Friday. The couple's 6-year-old boy grabbed national attention last month after he was thought to have floated away in a homemade, UFO-shaped silver balloon. The parents' lawyer said that father Richard Heene will plead guilty to a felony charge of attempting to influence a public servant, while mother Mayumi Heene will plead to the lesser misdemeanor charge of making a false report to authorities. Heene is taking on the felony charge, the lawyer said, because Mayumi is a citizen of Japan and could face deportation if she were to plead guilty to a felony. Larimer County authorities have not confirmed the settlement.

Though the felony conviction will be inconvenient, this is all turning out like Heene hoped. He's getting enormous attention, even weeks after the fact... give it a few more months and I'm confident he'll get a book deal and a reality show.

Yup! They won. Richard Heene is now a household name.

I don't want to see the mom deported but I think Dicky could use a wake up call in the form of some jail time.

I cannot help but feel a little sorry for them even if their lie did upset me about their little boy flying off in the balloon. And, I do not sympathize with the punishment for costing tax payers and wasting valuable time of our civil servents, not to mention the air port delays. I guess the reason for my sympathy is that they exemplify the national obsession with these reality shows and because I feel sorry for the their children who are innocent victims of their parent's addiction. I guess the best they can do with this now is write a tell all book about how their obsession with publicity took over their lives.

I hope things get resolved soon for the sake of the children. Can you imagine Heene having to explain to his children that Mommy is being deported to Japan; that he does not know when they will get to see her again; and this all because Daddy is a narrsicistic, near do well ass hole.

All of this drama could have been avoided, if dad had just been willing to get a regular, normal job, commensurate with his degree (if he has one) and his level of intelligence (if he had any) instead of auditioning for "Pimp My Kids."

The sooner they get it over with, the sooner they can get a book out and get on all the talk shows and achieve the American dream of being famous for being stupid.
