Oscar Buzz

'Best Actor' for Jeff Bridges?

CS - Bridges
Fox Searchlight

A few weeks ago, the company that made Crazy Heart thought it so unpromising that it was refusing to put it in theaters; now, buzz is that its lead actor, Jeff Bridges, could win an Oscar. The film stars Bridges as a washed-up country star. The film was originally made by Viacom, but the company’s Paramount Pictures division did not want to distribute it. The movie’s writer and director, Scott Cooper, got permission to sell it to Fox Searchlight, which pushed up its release until December and now finds the film generating Oscar Buzz. Bridges has been nominated for an Oscar four times but has never won.

I must need new specs: My other comment was meant for writerforhire...

What I meant to say was, "I don't know about you but I take comfort in that. It's good knowin' he's out there."

It is a good happenstance that the American film-going public is so forgiving, or else Hollywood would have long since succumbed to its own bad judgement and narrow-minded hubris.

The trailer looks really good. Hell, I was crying in the 2 minute teaser.

I have been pulling for Jeff Bridges for years and years, and hope to high heaven that his time has really come.

I'm STILL angry that Nick Nolte did not win the Oscar for 'Afflicted" as it was the greatest performance ever.

Jeff Bridges such a "good nice Actor" but zero "edge".

"Bad Company" was v.good ---and Big Joe's dialog memorable ---- "My boy, let me give you a little piece of advice. If you're going to pull a gun on somebody, which happens from time to time in these parts, you better fire it about a half a second after you do it... because most men aren't as patient as I am".

Rancho Deluxe also great ---

BTW he wss considered for the part of Travis in Taxi Driver ---- glad he didn't get that one.

Don't care to watch his movies now as IMHOP he is too bland.

The Big Lebowski is a *C-L-A-S-S-I-C* movie... and The Dude is one of the most memorable characters on celluloid.

A movie in which his blandness does nothing but enhance the role.

He's been my "guilty pleasure" actor for years; very male but without the tedium of machismo, who brings understated artistry and colors to every role. How can you not respond to Starman, American Heart, Lebowski? Not to mention The Fisher King and The Door in the Floor. Some are more critically acclaimed than others but I always come away with admiration for what he brings to a character. 'bout time...

Damn! They always give Oscar to an artist's lesser efforts. Jeff should have gotten it for The Big Lebowsky hands down.
