Biden to Appear on Daily Show

Robert Gibbs may be holding his breath the entire time, but the White House is turning loose Vice President Joe Biden for an appearance on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. The show will feature Biden on Tuesday, the first time he's been on the show since the election, The New York Times reports. He previously made two appearances in 2007 as a senator and a presidential candidate. President Obama last went on the show on October 29, 2008, days before the election.

Along with the claim that Joe Biden had a "blue-collar" upbringing -- he had a decidedly upper class (though not "rich") childhood -- Joe Biden has for years claimed that his first wife and his daughter were killed by a "drunk driver" in 1972. However, closer examination of the records proves that the man driving the truck that slammed into the Biden family car was never charged with drunken driving. So, why has the media allowed this perception that Biden lost his wife to a drunk driver to persist?
As late as 2007 Biden said that the man who was involved in the fatal crash that killed his wife and daughter was a "guy who allegedly ... drank his lunch" before he got behind the wheel of his truck and in 2001 the TV show Inside Edition aired a tape of Biden saying the truck driver "stopped to drink instead of drive." Additionally, several media outlets have included the drunk driver claim in their bios of the Senator from Delaware.
This drunk driving accusation, though, is simply a Biden creation and every time this claim is uttered it pains the family of the poor, maligned man involved in the tragic accident with Biden's family, truck driver Curtis C. Dunn. Gannett owned DelewareOnline reports the anguish that Biden's continued lie causes the man's family every time it is uttered.
"To see it coming from [Biden's] mouth, I just burst into tears," Dunn's daughter, Glasgow resident Pamela Hamill, 44, said Wednesday. "My dad was always there for us. Now we feel like we should be there for him because he's not here to defend himself."
In truth, there was no finding of alcohol being involved in this tragic incident.

Let's hope Jon Stewart is gentle to Mr Biden. He's easily confused and Jon is awful fast on his feet so this should be a good watch and see.

But Biden isn't dumb by any stretch. I just think, a lot of the time, he really does just want to speak unvarnished truth as opposed to 'truthiness.' And this makes him look unpolitical.

Gosh, I hope Biden elaborates on his statement 'we need to spend money to keep from going bankrupt'.
lel2007: Why does this need elaboration? Most economists - liberal and conservative - agree that without stimulus by the government, we would be in Great Depression II now, which is roughly equivalent to going bankrupt.
In fact, many economists say the original stimulus bill was way too small, and we are going to have to have more stimulus money if we want to avoid slipping back into recession.
What has Joe Biden's dead wife and child got to do with anything about this story? You people really need to get a life! Joe Biden has appeared on The Daily show numerous times, if you watch Stewart, you would know this. Biden is smart and educated, and yes, he does have a tendency to say exactly what is one his mind - a terrible thing in a anti-depressant laden, PC society that we now live in. I wish more people were like Joe. There you go again, Joe.
