Blago Picks New Senator
There's nothing more dangerous than a governor with nothing to lose. Defying explicit demands from all quarters not to appoint a senator, Rod Blagojevich announced 71-year-old former Illinois AG Roland Burris as his pick to succeed Barack Obama in the Senate. "Please don't allow the allegations against me to taint this good and honest man,” Blagojevich said at a press conference this afternoon. It won't be an easy path for Burris—Senate Democrats have refused to seat Burris. "Anyone appointed by Gov. Blagojevich cannot be an effective representative of the people of Illinois and, as we have said, will not be seated by the Democratic Caucus," several senators said in a statement.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: This guy has balls. Big Ones.
Good Grief, give it up, Man! You have lost everything.
I hope the Senate refuses to confirm and I can't wait until the impeachment and the trial.
On what basis could the Senate refuse to seat Burris? The Supreme Court held in Powell v. McCormack that the House could not refuse to seat a member unless he was ineligible to serve under a specific provision of the constitution (eg age). If Blago appoints him, the Senate will have to seat him.
@masinter That would be the House and not the Senate. I believe the Senate is able to confirm its new members and if there is an air of impropriety or negligence they have the right to not approve the selection.
Thank you.
