Boehner: Climate Bill a 'Pile of Sh*t'

CS - John Boehner
Susan Walsh / AP Photo

Life was easier when you were in charge, wasn’t it John Boehner? The House Minority Leader and congressman from Ohio complained to The Hill that the climate bill passed by House Democrats on Friday is “a pile of shit.” When asked why he read aloud from the bill for an hour on the House floor, Boehner said, “Hey, people deserve to know what's in this pile of shit." The bill narrowly passed, 219-212, with eight Republicans voting for it.

During a recession, why not take out a whip and beat those struggling to survive with energy taxes. And how will we drive to work, if some can't afford gas? Why not find other ways to reduce our dependency on foreign oil thru innovation, hybrids, solar energy and biofuels? Innovative companies need government incentives such as tax breaks in order to create innovative solutions. That should be the goal. Oh I forgot, Obama wants the government to grow, not companies.

As opposed to you Plantagenet-
Who would consider such moronic
And obvious posturing theatrics which
Have nothing to do with 'reading' the bill
As time well spent in the House?

Face facts, Rita squared
Try to be honest, if you dare
The dems are so stupid they pass through bills
Without bothering to read the bills, making them shills

I wonder if the people of Ohio have caught on to his flailing feces. Boehner The Complainer finds fault with everything the new administration is trying, but sat silent as the former administration ran up the debt, got us into two wars and allowed business, particularly banking and finance, to be reckless with other people's money.

While disagreement is a good thing. Throwing feces is dangerousan as the wind shifts it will all come flying back at him. I can't wait.

Nancy Pelosi needs to step down. She is destroying out country with bills to oppress taxpayers who actually do work hard for what little the government lets them keep. Nancy is divisively partisan.......as she flies home with glee in her taxpayer paid jet.

quite simply, because the amendment was finished until 2:59. It was a last minute addendum - a compromise. To gain the support of Peterson and the Ag committee, the bill needed to concede control of the offset program to the Department of Agriculture, not the EPA.

Last minute - Yes. Unread or unexpected? Hardly.

This bill has been released in draft form for months. Any citizen could have downloaded and read through it. In fact, its required by law. Its known as the notice and comment period. EVERY bill MUST go through one.

Don't be fooled by the red herring. EVERY CONGRESSMAN PRESENT KNEW EVERY PART OF THAT BILL. It went through over a dozen House committees and has been analyzed by the right and left for months. It has been hotly contested and both sides were trying to rally support up until the very end. Thats what Boehner was doing. Very savvy, in my opinion. By stalling, he is giving other congressmen in his party, as well as interested third parties, to continue hounding the fence-sitters.

Saying that there is not enough time to read through this is a complete DIVERSION. This bill was known through and through.

thank you, squid, for that cogent explanation. I think a sharp contrast can be made between this bill, ACES, and the PATRIOT act as far as congressional review

I love the way some people think that natural resources are endless, and that there is no ozone layer, that there is no global warming, that pollution is harmless, that we're not fishing the seas empty, that we can deforest the planet, that all this talk about protecting the enviornment "a pile of sh*t".
Makes you wonder who the real fecal matter is.

This is true, keepakeeper! Change is always difficult and in a democracy, it is usually "sloppy", but very necessary. I am sure this climate bill is like all bills that go through Congress--full of flaws. But the bill needs to pass. These do nothing Repugs just make me sick. I don't know why people can't work more toward change and progress. Change is disruptive, but is always necessary in the long run. The only certainty in life is change. We need to be a more progressive country. It is folly not be concerned with our environment and the extreme consumption of natural resources that we Americans are guilty of.

" I think you'll see a plan from us. Just like you've seen a plan from us on the stimulus bill and a better plan on the budget".

Majority Leader (at the time) John Boehner, in an interview with George Stephanopoulos on April 18, 2009.

http://www.thewashingtonnote.com/archives/2009/04/john_boehners_c/

Where are those plans? Why didn't you trot them out when you were Majority Leader? The answer, of course, is that like your party's health care initiatives, they consisted of thin air. (Could just as easily say "hot air").

Do you really believe this clown didn't know what was in this bill? Where has he been for the last two months? They have been debating this, meeting with industry, and other concernend partys. I assume Boehner has a large staff like other congressmen to keep up on what is happening in congress. And this whole 300 page BS is just that. I don't know about you, but I can sit down and read a 300 page book in about 1/12 hrs. It didn't matter what was in the bill, the Party of NO was voting no anyways.

Quite right.
Don't recall his reading from the "Patriot" Act for a full hour on the floor in the name of public edification/protest. Seems there's some sh*t he's very comfortable wallowing in. (Maybe that accounts for the disturbingly unnatural skin tone he's sporting?)

Not reading the bill before voting on it is standard table fare with the people in congress, and all the bills seem to be a piece of crap...read or not.
Note TARP, Auto Bailouts, Bank Bailouts, Stimulis Bill, now thart they start to read the damn things it gets a little scary.
Who the hell is going to pay for all these bills?
Think about it it's why they call them bills, and when the bills come due, it will be the taxpayers who will pay the bills.
This trade and cap bill will help break the bank, look at California as the model of how this type of government works.

Actually California is a good example of what happens when you try to do the right thing without a proper tax base. When you are afraid to tax the rich and business because they are the ones that pay for your campaign you drive the state and the country into a very dangerous place. It's time the people who benefit start paying for what they get - and don't fool yourself - I'm talking about the middleclass. I'm talking about the people who live off of the middle class in California - they have these wonderful money generators because of the attractiveness of California and if they don't pay to keep it attractive and I mean attracting intelligent, hardworking and educated people those businesses and rich will find their money generating abilities drying up and drifting away.

I agree, the more you have the more you have to lose so paying for the benefit of protection ie FDIC for money, police and fire for bigger and more expensive property, all the way down the line, the middle class have been hit hard, the poor and wealthy exempt. How much is health care worth to you? If you have a lot more to lose then you will pay for it. No loopholes! Redo tax structure to account for this! Flat tax would be good!

ConstitutionalRights

California is a terrific example of a stupid, corrupt and poorly managed state. It was the equivilent of the 7th largest economy in the world, and yet, they still mismanaged the money by being "daddy" to everyone and everything, and have done so for decades.

The people in California vote in representatives who make them "feel good" about the things they are going to "give them". However, when things go off course, which has happened during every Governors term they have had, the legislature never has to deal with the problems they created in the first place.

It all comes down to ovrespending by people who should never have that much in the first place. Come on, would you give your paycheck to your 4 year old to manage? Would you give it to a complete stranger? Well, that is what they do there. They give Billions to elected officials who stay for 4 years then either leave or get voted out, and also to unelected "appointees" to manage things that are too controversial to deal with.

California should be an example of what is great about our country, but it repeatedly shows irresponsibility in everything they do. Schools, drugs, energy, riots, naked bike rides, 1800 sq foot homes that cost millions, poor water supplies, sewage leaks into Santa Monica bay, gangs, overcrowded highways, social services that are an embarrassment to all, the list goes on and on.

Sorry all, but that is not what I want for our country. Freedom means doing the right thing for yourself and your family, not trying to force feed your ideals to everyone. Too much government to do "the right thing" is always what breaks the bank. I'll give to my causes, you give to yours. The government should only be the referee, and protect our borders. That is what the founding fathers had in mind, not creating a "rich uncle" to solve all of our worldly troubles.

Constitution, have you ever been to CA? Having been born and raised in CA and traveled to 27 other states during my life, with the exception of Florida, there's no other state in which I'd reside. There is no other place in the US where on the same day you can surf at 6am, be snow skiing at 11am, take in a game of any major sport, have any type of food in the world that you want for dinner and finish the night off at an amazing nightclub.

Our biggest mistake was, for the second time, voting into office an ex-actor (hack even) and thinking he'd be able to foresee or even deal with, the catastrophe Republicans would unleash on this country and the world. Economies everywhere are struggling because of the Bush years and events that really took root during Reagan.

Next time you decide to open your pie hole, try a big ol helping of "humble".

Boo hoo, Boo hoo, whine, whine, whine; that's all the Repukes have folks. They had 8yrs to put their great plans in place so f%!*off. The only thing they did was give carte blanche to every kind of business to suck the system dry.

This plan may not be the best, and it may be a pile of s*#t but Repukes didn't even have that.

What amazes me is the decorum (or lack there of) with which the GOP legislators have presented their complaints. It is all well and good that they want to complain, but to go in front of cameras and all they have to say is "a pile of shit" seems to indicate that they don't know or care that their words are now part of the Public Record. When history is written about this time, one should wonder how these politicians will be described, certainly not "official spokespersons" for a group that supposedly stand for moral values or literate human beings.
