Brits Tell Teens Sex Is Fun

Abstinence be damned: Teens in Britain are getting one often overlooked bit of advice—that sex can be fun. The National Health Service is recommending teachers stress the healthy and pleasurable sides of sex rather than only harping on mechanics and deterrence, and have distributed a pamphlet titled Pleasure. Aside from boasting a section on masturbation entitled “an orgasm a day,” the pamphlet (which is given to teachers, not students) promotes sexual awareness and responsibility on an emotional level and is being touted by professionals as the cure for out-of-date sex education. The initiative is not without its dissidents: “I think this is medically wrong and emotionally wrong and will increase teenage pregnancy and impact negatively on the formation of a long-term loving relationship,” said the headmaster of one college. But proponents acknowledged the failure of the current system to teach adequate sex ed and want teachers to be given a new way to discuss sex with students.

I applaud the awareness that the current modes of sex-ed are totally out of date. I recall a Secretary of Health in America being fired in the 70s once for uttering the word "masturbation"
In America our prurience is based almost entirely on religious grounds, and this has been very harmful. I recall thousands of gays dying of Aids in the early 80s because the word "condom" could not be uttered, and we had the criminal Reagan to thank for that. Britain is moving in the right direction . America is too busy imploding to worry about "silly" things like that.

"I recall thousands of gays dying of Aids in the early 80s because the word "condom" could not be uttered, and we had the criminal Reagan to thank for that."

EPIC FAIL.

Gays died of AIDS because they engaged in promiscuous unprotected anal sex. If you ever thought that was a great idea, you weren't too smart.

No one banned the word "condom." That's silly on the face of it. Why do you make up nonsense, knowing that someone will undoubtedly call you on it?

"I recall a Secretary of Health in America being fired in the 70s once for uttering the word "masturbation""

Oops. More fiction.

Your opinions are of no value, because they come from a place of fantasy, rather than fact.

How many centuries does it take for a western christian society to accept the idea that sex is a rewarding and acceptable part of being a human being? Way to go brits, you are finally evolving and still eons ahead of American morons, at least the ones in charge of public policy. George Michael for Sex zsar.

If the U.S. ever had a Secretary of Sex, who would be in the running for this position?

Please send a copy of this pamphlet to all the Confederate religious sex starved republican hypocrites in Congress to read & study with their own wives please & not in bathrooms or with mistress's or prostitutes or young pages.....

Good thing Henry the 8th split off or the whole of England would be in deep poopoo from the German guy in Italy for being honest & not creating sexual deviates by teaching & preaching how bad sex is. (Like the priests in the US did before they went after little boys themselves)

Ah Marty, you know that America's sexual hangups aren't limited to the Republicans. They've kind of been on a bad streak these past few weeks it's true, but the Dems have engaged in their fair share of hypocritical raunch as well. Sex and parties are a good combo but only when it's about hooking up and not when it's about spreading the blame.

I have a better idea... let's just blame religion.

Well put. When will Christian Right not run our country? I wish they were prudish enough to stop procreating!

And for Ottoheinz...yes, Dems have had some sex scandals, but at least our politicians aren't in church every weekend condemning "sexual deviants" then heading to our young mistress/ boyfriend's house before the wife finds out. Half of those Reps are in denial...

I wish teachers and parents opened up pregnancy prevention for discussion when i was younger. Half of us passed around myths about not getting pregnant, while we were afraid of getting beat if we were caught pleasuring ourselves. Perhaps that is why our teen pregnancy rates are so high. They should pass out vibrators...haha!

Only one a day? Hell, they're still young. Should be able to hit two or three . . . . .

Here's how to end teen pregnancy: Issue every teenage girl a sex toy starter kit. I'm serious!!! If girls got a chance to experience multiple orgasms on their own they wouldn't need an inept premature ejaculating teenage boy.

It sounds like the way my teachers in High School always talked about sex. " It's fun! and it's exercise!"

I wonder if the next step is going to be teachers showing them how to and play the part too.

Teens already know sex is fun - it must be as there is so much fuss made about it and it's everywhere they look. The Brits are just stating the obvious. Good for them.

This is offensive to the Religious Right in America, because sex is a blatant demonstration that we aren't brought into the world by supernatural means.

Hopefully, with the election of Obama, the days of letting people run the government who fervently believe that any moment all decent, upright Republicans are going to get blasted out of their shoes and disappear into the Kingdom of Heaven, leaving a forlorn world populated by fornicating Democrats.

There is no sex in Heaven. Doesn't it sound wonderful?

Promoting promiscuity and decadent behavior among adolescents who are not yet emotionally mature is of course par for the course in a society such as Britain, closely following the path of all other former great societies falling into chaos. Anyone ever hear of the Roman Empire, Ancient Greece, Britannia [no longer] Rules the Waves, etc., (i.e., anyone with the intellectual credibility to read the real history)?

Well, it's a good thing, then, that this pamphlet isn't promoting promiscuity and decadent behavior.

Promoting "sexual awareness and responsibility on an emotional level" sounds like a much healthier approach. Don't you agree?

Does anyone know if this pamphlet is posted online somewhere? It would be interesting to go to the source and find out what the thing really says.
