Bush-Clinton Debate Nixed Over Hype

George W. Bush and Bill Clinton have canceled their debate—which was scheduled for February of next year at Radio City Music Hall—just a day after the event was announced. Why? The promoter “overhyped” the event. Perhaps it was their billing as “The Hottest Ticket in Political History,” or the declaration that the debate would be "uncensored, unedited, and unpredictable" that cheesed off the former presidents. A Clinton spokesman had said they’d planned “just a moderated conversation... no fireworks.”

Sounds like Clinton wanted just a "moderated conversation" and when the full-on debate format was announced slick willy chickened out of the big debate.

No it doesn't sound like that. I doubt "slick willy" has any concerns about debating with a guy who can't even properly say the word nuclear. I'm glad this is getting canceled because of the embarrassment I'd feel for Bush for being completely humiliated by his predecessor. I don't think it's right for a US president to be made a fool of, even if it's done by another president.

So, he'd be happy to debate Pres. Carter? That guy worked on a nuclear sub and couldn't pronounce "nuclear" properly.

Sadly RitaRita has disappeared from TDB, and yet, you never leave. You are a cockroach that scurries out from a crack in the wall behind the toilet to post on TDB then you scuttle back to your haven.

The moderated conversation I'd like to hear would be between Bush and Palin. She talks in circles, he makes up new words and mispronounces them. Such a televised "conversation" would flood ERs with English teachers having aneurysms and seizures.

"The spider sits, crouched on top of her computer, anxiously awaiting the posting of a new story on TDB. She sees it. She races across her web to the keyboard and begins frantically typing, desperate to be the frist to post on every article. No time to gather facts. No time to worry about actual insights or thoughts on the subject. This is too important for reflection or even the truth. This is a fresh opportunity to trash a Democrat, a liberal, maybe even the President of the United States! Her life's purpose fulfilled, she crawls back up the web to her perch. Hopefully it won't be long before another article appears."

Reprise of my former post about Plant.

As much as he would enjoy an exchange of ideas, Bill Clinton is also gentleman enough not to want to embarrass G.W. Bush, even within the bounds of a "moderated conversation."

Too bad the promoter could not get them to mud wrestle or some other type of reality show type hyped situation.

I would have liked to just hear the two of them chat, with someone like Larry King, or Barbara Walters, or even Dr. Phil to be part of the conversation and see what they think CAN be done by the everyday Americans to get the whole show on the road to salvaging our country.
