The Best In Brief
Business Casual at the White House
President Obama raised eyebrows after taking office when the first picture of him at his desk in the Oval Office depicted him (gasp!) without a jacket, a departure from President Bush's strict dress code. According to Obama's senior advisor, David Axelrod, the change reflects Obama's Hawaiian roots—specifically, his preference for high temperatures. "He likes it warm. You could grow orchids in there," Axelrod said. Obama has loosened other clothing restrictions as well, encouraging "business casual" on weekends among staff and wearing a sweater over a buttoned-down shirt to briefings. Bush aide Dan Bartlett said that he would "get chewed out for 15 minutes" by the president if he showed up to work in similar attire.

So when the country was heading straight for the crapper, DOOFUS was playing hall monitor and dress code enforcer. What a bungling idiot.
It has been my observation that the less substance being offered, the higher the dress code requirement. When you're selling "air," like derrivatives or insurance, you have to dress up. When you're selling tangibles, like airplanes or tractors, people can see what they're getting, so the appearance of the salesman is less important. Bush was selling air.
Everyday my esteem for our new CIC grows. Of course there are appearances that matter, and those that don't.
Onedirector-
Exactly.
Condi Rice spent more time going overseas buying shoes than doing any actual work. Bush spent over 40% of his time on vacation. What do you expect from those who hate government actually governing?
They appointed people to jobs that totally unqualified- what better way is there to show government doesn't work?
At Christmas, whether those crappy presents were wrapped in gold bonded paper or newspaper, they were still crappy presents.
I don't care if the new Prez works in gym shorts as long as he gets the horrendous Bush/ Republican mess cleaned up and puts teeth back in banking regulation and environmental protection.
Ok- I kinda do, but as long as State dinners go back to white tie like we're a civilized country the rest doesn't bother me. Letting up the dress code on weekends? Why is that something new? Suits on weekends? Twisted.
Are they going to have casual Fridays soon? When are they going to start wearing khakis, polo shirts and Topsiders? Has any checked to see if the Prez and staff are wearing any foreign made clothes? Remember buy made in America!
This blog article is a piece of garbage!! The author is clearly infatuated with the Obama style. He's only been there for eight days. Me and everyone else really only cares what he accomplishes during his stay in office. He could wear rapper clothes, pajama, a track suit, an Aloha shirt with board shorts and flip flops for all I care; as long as he gets the job done.
Quit being so People or US magazine like a report relevant information NYT. I hope Mr. Slim has the opportunity to buy them out when the stock drops another 50% this year and maybe we can really get all the news that's fit to print.
Glad to see others thinking the same thing I do. Pres. Obama is there to get stuff done, whereas his predecessor was there to, well, who knows??, but apparently he thought "looking presidential" was more important than doing something.
Bush was there to be on vacation. He has averaged over 2 months a year out of Washington on vacation.
Obama is pragmatic and unlike Bush wants to get things done.
Thank you.
