Cheney: Declassify All the Memos
Ever the booster, former Vice President Dick Cheney says the Obama administration should release all the CIA interrogation memos and documents—to demonstrate the “success” of the harsh methods. In a two-part interview airing Monday and Tuesday on Hannity, Cheney questions why Obama would release the legal decisions that allowed the interrogation methods but not documents showing their outcome: “One of the things that I find a little bit disturbing about this recent disclosure is they put out the legal memos, the memos that the CIA got from the Office of Legal Counsel, but they didn’t put out the memos that showed the success of the effort.” Cheney says he wants the CIA to declassify the information so the American people can see how much intelligence was produced by techniques like waterboarding. “I’ve now formally asked the CIA to take steps to declassify those memos so we can lay them out there and the American people have a chance to see what we obtained and what we learned and how good the intelligence was,” he said.

What's with Cheney? If you thought you were so right, I don't think you would be in such a tizzy.

toodogs, this is precisely not the "rule of law." I think it's better described as the "law of the jungle," which usually implies that we ought to have evolved to something more befitting our species.
I also am not a Cheney fan, but he is correct in one way. It's proper to release the whole story. Success or not, though, torture (illegal!) cannot be justified by the ends, irrespective of "success."

Actually, no it isn't. It is people on the field conducting these interrogations. You'll notice there is an article on the Beast today... about this very subject written by someone who is actually doing the work. And that AIN'T Cheney.
But, I would have no problem with the release of the whole kit and caboodle.

This is the article of which I speak. Posted today...

Cheney apparently did not get the memo of GOP talking points which stated that public disclosure of any specific details of the Bush detainee interrogations would lead to the destruction of Western civilization.

Declassify Cheney's memos/emails (if they haven't been destroyed or hidden - against the law, of course).
Cheney went to "the dark side"* and never came back.

First of all -- an empty gesture on his part. He can say that because he knows they wouldn't do it and if they did he and everyone else would be screaming that they risked national security just for a political point.
More importantly, Cheney and his supporters (the few) still just don't get it. The majority who don't support the torture practice -- and never supported it, even in 2002, aren't now revising history and saying it was bad only because we don't think it didn't work. We object because it is wrong. Some would say it is wrong, period. And others would say it is certainly wrong to the degree it is done to potentially innocent people who for whom we have no evidence of wrong doing just on the premise that they are reasonable collateral damage in our righteous quest to defend ourselves. So for the sake of argument let's assume the memos did show some success (given Cheney's sociaptahic nature there's no reason to trust him but let's just assume), it still wouldn't make toturing people not guilty of any crime ok.

cheney's "proof" torture worked is in the safe with his "proof" saddam had weapons of mass destruction.

So ends justify the means?
Carpet bomb the middle east then! Gas all muslim men in the USA! Sterilize all muslim women! Torture their children in front of them!
Cheney, you don't seem to understand. You are NOT a dictator........
Ends do NOT justify the means!!

First off the geneva convention is not a mandate of convienance. And don't give me that uniformed combatent nonsense arguement. These principles of conduct have been in place for over a half a century to the benefit of 10's of 1000s us soldiers who are alive do to our enemies adhering to this. I am not stating that germany, japan, korea, ..... adhered to this policy verbatim. But many are alive as a result. Secondly, and much more to the point, how in the hell can Cheney request anything from the CIA, i guess I can make request now too. Say, someone keeps stealing the metals out of my recycling. Could you please look into that for me.
