Clooney, Hanks Oppose Actors' Strike

In what could be the biggest blow to the entertainment industry since last year's Writers Guild strike (which is still reverberating throughout Hollywood and affecting television and film slates), the Screen Actors Guild is threatening to strike over payment from Internet syndication. But never fear, A-list celebrities have stepped up to the plate. Yesterday, a crop of big-name stars (Clooney, Freeman, Theron, Hanks) published an open letter on the web denouncing the strike efforts. They noted the current economic climate and said the actors could get better terms in a few years. On the opposing side, Martin Scorsese and Mel Gibson came out in support of SAG and a fight. Prepare for Hollywood's fists to come out, just in time for Oscar season.

IsWhatItIs

I agree with George and the gang. People are weary from the economy and won't feel much sympathy for anyone making more problems right now. Remember the baseball strikes... people grew tired of the whining. People are growing tired of hearing it from Hollywood too. I feel for the actors, writers, etc. and I am sure they all have valid points, but now is not the time to strike - I feel that any issues they may have, will fall on deaf and broken-down ears. Quite frankly, nobody cares right now and if the SAG chooses to send their industry further into economic doom - there will be no sympathy, the general public will simply think they are nuts. Most of us are just trying to survive and certainly wouldn't dream of doing anything to make matters worse. Incomprehensible, really.........
