Democratic Nepotism

Politico notes a troubling trend in the Democratic party: an uptick in nepotism. There have always been Kennedys, of course. But now Hillary Clinton is secretary of state; Jesse Jackson Jr. may replace Obama in the Senate; Beau Biden may replace his dad, Joe; Caroline Kennedy may replace Clinton; etc., etc. “The U.S. Senate could end up looking like an American version of the House of Lords,” the paper quips. Cue the Republican overreach: “Democrats seem to lack a common man who can just win a good, old-fashioned election,” says New York Rep. Tom Reynolds. Well, if you ignore Barack Obama, then maybe you’ve got a point.

Beau Biden was not selected to take his father's seat. The Governor picked Ted Kaufman. And let's just admit that the American's like to stick with families they know. The Kennedy's, The Bush's, The Jackson's, The Biden's... The name helps.

"Democrats seem to lack a common man who can just win a good, old-fashioned election."

Oh, now, that is rich. A common man like, I don't know, George W Bush, Jeb Bush, any of a number of Sunnunus? A common woman like, I don't know, Liddy Dole or Lisa Murkowski?

It's so cute how suddenly, now that Democrats are promoting the family name, Politico finds it to be a "disturbing trend." Also, as far as I know, the only person on that list to have actually received a job (not an elected one, either) is Hillary.

I remember a historian commenting on W's candidacy in 2000 : "To think that we fought a revolution so that the unqualified offspring of previous leaders couldn't simply waltz into power..."

Oddly enough, with the current financial meltdown, a total new comer like Obama felt the Nation might be more reassured by having a team of recognizably capable people to deal with the mess "left behind". It would seem that building a consensus to solve the horrendous problems facing us all, is more important to the incoming administration than it EVER was to Bush et al. It seems that all the media can whinge about lately are stupid things. I guess eight years of being led around by "talking points" left little room for serious journalism. Oh well.
