Ensign Paid Off Mistress
Perhaps John Ensign wants the spotlight back from Mark Sanford? Nevada’s cheating senator is back in the news with the report that his “parents paid nearly $100,000 to the family of his mistress around the time she and her husband left his staff in April 2008.” Ensign’s parents gave the money in limited $12,000 gifts to his mistress, Cindy Hampton, her husband Doug, and their two children. "The payments were made as gifts, accepted as gifts and complied with tax rules governing gifts," said Ensign’s attorney.

EVANGELIC'S its TIME for a third party.
There IS a third party. It's the CROOK party and they can have an R or D next to their name as MaliciousDisorder reminds us below.
Ensign and Jefferson and any other crooks that get caught and convicted can be assigned to the same wing of a prison to be built within sight of the capital, where they can be reminded of what they betrayed and all of our representatives can be reminded of the stakes. After release, they should have their employment restricted like other criminals in this country.
Wasn't there a movie similar to this called "Indecent Proposal"
These horny politicians never cease to amaze.
Republican hypocrisy: the gift that keeps on giving.
As much as I am tempted to cross the line in my own world of ethics and condemn him as a slime Republican, I have to say this is his slime business and none of ours.
Democrat or Republican, its none of our business. Its his private life.
Let the people of Nevada judge him.

The valid question is - were public money or campaign money used?
The rap on john Edwards is that campaign funds were used.
I'm not defending hypocracy, but ethics (is there a difference???)
charles116,
So what?
As I recall we knew about a slimeball who cheated on his wife every chance he got. Even got blowjobs three feet from the oval office.
HE WAS THE PRESIDENT!!!
What the hell do you care?!!

At least he didn't have the money in a freezer...
I think a conviction is a few days away for Democrat Louisiana William Jefferson

Its the same thing as hook'in on the Strip. But it was HOOK'IN ON THE SENATE.Does'nt it strike you odd that his wife and her look almost alike one has short hair one has long hair. Its got this weird movie like story line.If you look at Mr.Sanford mistress she looks like Mrs.Sanford .Whats up with these christian conservatives its like there pretending it was there wife or something .Man thats plain Evil what they did.
Severance pay? People in my acquaintance wind up with a broken home and lots of bill. Seems like our politicians live in some weird parallel universe. Also the ones throwing the most rocks seem to be the ones living in the glass houses.
The creep is a slime bag. And clearly not that smart. Dump the 535. They need to be furloughed.
I guess his choice was either pay her off or have her shoot him while he slept (I guess McNair refused to pay his mistress off)
Rachel Maddow just had a lengthy piece about this Ensign payoff matter. Right after that she briefly did an interesting story featuring the official White House website and the disappearance from it of Obama's promise to get the H.I.V. needle-exchange ban overturned. While it now makes no mention of his previous promise, elsewhere on the site it mentions new legislation with a part of it expressly keeping the needle-exchange ban in place in most Orwellian fashion as if that had always been his position. The transparency administration rides again!
Sure the payments were gifts! The IRS ordinarily avoids going after big politicians but how they can avoid this is beyond me. It is called "bribes."
Sen. Tom Coburn protests too much about involvement in Ensign affair and now with Vitter, three of 40 GOP Senators involved in sex scandals. Between Sarah Palin's goofy withdrawal, Gov. Mark Sanford's Argentine affair, and VP Dick Cheney's scary comments, it seems Republicans are self-destructing. Eleven years after Clinton, Republicans are largely silent on their own sex scandals. Impeachment, let's forgive. It will be 70 Democrats and 30 Republicans after 2010.
Thank you.
