Going Rogue

Fact-Checking Palin's New Book

Sarah Palin’s long-awaited memoir may have gone rogue from the facts, according to the Associated Press’ advance look at her book. The former vice-presidential candidate depicts herself as someone who is frugal with taxpayer money when traveling and who rejected donations from powerful corporations, the AP says, but her record indicates otherwise. The former Alaskan governor stayed at a luxurious New York City hotel with her daughter in 2007. She says her gubernatorial campaign took mostly small donations from first-time givers, but more than half her war chest came from people and PACs who gave at least $500. And she blurs the lines between the Obama stimulus plan and the federal bailout that President George W. Bush signed. She implies that Ronald Reagan repealed the “death tax” (he didn’t). She says she stood against conflicts of interest, but pushed for a special zoning exception so she could sell her family’s $327,000 house. The book “has all the characteristics of a pre-campaign manifesto.”

Really!!
All 2000 pages of that piece of Socialist Bull S--t. And who has done any kind of investigation of whats in that bill?
How about, NO ONE!

Maye the AP should take a look at that instead of performing an anal exam of a politician who isn't even in office!

Plantkin -- Palin is a confirmed liar and all you come up with is "Obamacare".

Read the 1,900-plus page Health Reform bill and then give us your learned opinion.

Now, about Palin's lies, we're waitin' reverently for Nov.14 to start the long list of your Alaskan goddess' wooly distortions and gravity-defying Christian platitudes.

I found it online, new and hardcover, for a mere $9.99.

You made fun of piktor's screen name like a third grade bully before claiming he made a third grade response, then finishing up with some more name calling. Are you parodying right wingers or are you just mentally deficient?

WHY SHOULD WE SHE'S DONE NOTHING FOR THIS COUNTRY. CAN U NAME ONE THING SHE DID THAT POSES A THREAT TO THE DEMS? BESIDES LIE ABOUT DEATH PANELS? JOE THE PLUMBER??? THE WOMAN RAN A PRESIDENTAL ELECTION USING A NON-PLUMBER SCHMUCK AS HER MASCOT. AND THIS IS SOMEONE WE SHOULD BE AFRAID OF? SHE QUITS A JOB THAT HAS NO ISSUES. HOW MANY OF U PALIN WORSHIPERS KNOW THIS?---> August 4, 2008, In a speech given in Lansing, Michigan, Senator Obama called for the completion of the Alaska natural gas pipeline, stating, "Over the next five years, we should also lease more of the National Petroleum Reserve in Alaska for oil and gas production. And we should also tap more of our substantial natural gas reserves and work with the Canadian government to finally build the Alaska natural gas pipeline, delivering clean natural gas and creating good jobs in the process."
Governor Sarah Palin responded to the energy plan put forward by the presumptive Democratic nominee for President, Illinois Senator Barack Obama.
"I am pleased to see Senator Obama acknowledge the huge potential Alaska's natural gas reserves represent in terms of clean energy and sound jobs," Governor Palin said. "The steps taken by the Alaska State Legislature this past week demonstrate that we are ready, willing and able to supply the energy our nation needs."
I BET ALL OF U THOUGHT PALIN WAS THE ONE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE ALASKA/CANADA PIPELINE. THATS BECAUSE FOX TELLS U THIS AND PALIN GOES WITH THE FLOW. THIS WAS OBAMA'S PLAN WHEN HE WAS STILL SENATOR.
BUT GO AHEAD LIVING YOUR LIES, SHE CANT CAMPAIGN SAYING SHE DID THIS OBAMA WILL WIPE THE FLOOR WITH HER. SHE HAS DONE NOTHING! AND DEM'S ARE TERRIFIED OF HER? LMAO.

piktIor Now, about Palin's lies, we're waitin' reverently for Nov.14 to start the long list of your Alaskan goddess' wooly distortions and gravity-defying Christian platitudes.//////// Pikitor your post leaves an impression that Dems are gonna attack this woman and we just cant wait til Nov. 14th. Noone is attacking her as today is the 14th and i already watch the news on "left wing media" as you call it. But why, if someone on the left DOES criticize her, do u think it is to demean her?? Thats not how Dems work. Why dont you ask yourself if Palin did anything to be criticized for? Cuz I'm sure there are a few you can come up with. LIke her "death panel" saga she started. Did you know that Palin herself sponsored the same exact thing?? Here's a little surprise for you---> "On April 16th 2008, then Gov. Sarah Palin endorsed some of the same end of life counseling she now decries as a form of euthanasia. In a proclamation announcing "Healthcare Decisions Day," Palin urged public facilities to provide better information about advance directives, and made it clear that it is critical for seniors to be informed of such options:
The proclamation states:
WHEREAS, Healthcare Decisions Day is designed to raise public awareness of the need to plan ahead for healthcare decisions, related to end of life care and medical decision-making whenever patients are unable to speak for themselves and to encourage the specific use of advance directives to communicate these important healthcare decisions.
WHEREAS, one of the principal goals of Healthcare Decisions Day is to encourage hospitals, nursing homes, assisted living facilities, continuing care retirement communities, and hospices to participate in a statewide effort to provide clear and consistent information to the public about advance directives, as well as to encourage medical professionals and lawyers to volunteer their time and efforts to improve public knowledge and increase the number of Alaska's citizens with advance directives."
**SO NOW, BECAUSE SHE LOST THE ELECTION, SHE FIGURES SHE CAN ATTEMPT TO KILL OBAMA'S PLAN BY CALLING IT A DEATH PANEL? IS WAS A GREAT IDEA WHEN SHE ENDORSED IT, BUT NOW THE SAME PLAN WILL KILL GRANDMA?? AND U GET MAD IF SOMEONE CRITICIZES HER? WHEN U DO IT IT'S FREEDOM OF SPEECH. SORRY, THE GOLDEN RULE DOES NOT APPLY TO REPUBLICANS.

But it doesnt seem to bother you the one bit when Palin lies her ass off about death panels and grandma. Shouldn't she be working right now? How about telling her to get a job I have a business that's more than a job. Death panels for Palin's son as if a millionaire would even consider govt healthcare...she got ypu and so many idiots going and what makes it more hilarious is that you make us normal-minded ones the losers lmaorofl.

you know today on the news it was discussed that Sarah Palin discusses her daughter Bristol. She says that she did not know Bristol was sexually active before getting pregnant.
Now who starts all this?? Is it the Dems? Maddow? What necessity does Palin have knowing that alot of people will buy her book to talk about Bristol's active sex? And hey it's her book she does what she wants..But then don't throw a tantrum when a joke is made about her daughter because she is the one that exploits them. She does it to herself. But FOX, the devils that they are, will turn around and say that the Dems are attacking her and her family. She's exploiting her daughter AGAIN this time talking about something that I'm sure Bristol did not want printed. She doesnt seem like the Paris Hilton type where she's proud to screw around. So you want the media to mind their business when it comes to Palin but Obama doesn't pick a woman to play a freaking basketball game and FOX right away making this top news for the month. Thats okay right? So u see, what is your problem when you republicans get called racists?? Dont u think that approving Obama bashing for a basketball game but catching a heart attck when Palin is criticized is not a sign of bigotry?? 'dont say nothing about the whites but its ok to bash the black man? you gotta be smoking some potent crap.

Frenchmanaz

True Carole65, but few have lied so deeply as to have come this close to the second most important job in this country, when they were neither competent to hold that position or deserving.

Yes she was picked and yes, I can understand how anyone put in that position could be swept off their feet by the thought. If she was truly smart, she would have now chosen the humility route whereby she admitted that she wasn't prepared ( being prepared and intelligent are different ).

Instead her ego tool over long ago and for every self entitled comment that streams out of her little brain into the public domain, we who never trusted her, here that ding ding ( a la state fair ) as a new target circle replaces the last one we shot down.

What is most unnerving is that her supporters feel that her perpetual defiance against the rest of us, who are not smart enough to recognize how brilliant she is , is the way to win our hearts& minds or votes.

Anyone with an ounce of intelligence knows that America loves an underdog. If SP had shown some genuine humility, admitting that it all happened so fast and that it was probably best that she was given more time to hone her skills for such an important position, then I would bet my house that she would have garnered a great deal more respect from even we, her detractors. Let's be clear that playing the victim does not count as humility.

Fortunately that shipped sailed long ago so my house is safe.

I wouldn't let this woman watch my 8 year old let alone allow her to be two steps from the oval office. I am happy that she is so narcassistic, defiant and hateful, because I am left completely devoid of any sympathy.

Just cause SP wears a suit, instead of a wet tshirt and a thong, it doesn't make her any less of a bimbo. I am just relieved that all of the smart women in this country were given enough time to see SP's true colours that they weren't able to act on this first instinct in the voting booth.

Almost all politicians are snakes and liars so we, the public, are left basing our decisions on the candidates who we believe are only moderately self serving and evil. SP does not qualify.

What Frenchmanaz said - that pretty much sums up my response to Carole65. Just because there are plenty of politicians on both sides of the aisle that are liars doesn't change the fact that Sarah Palin is also one. This book was rushed to press so rapidly that it's no surprise that little fact-checking was done.

Palin has burned her bridges with the RNC in order to make a quick buck. Her fan base may well still adore her, but her modest viability as a legitimate political candidate will be forever tarnished as a result.

Well, when you accomplish more things you can write longer autobiographies. Did you really want the hard hitting day to day descriptions of overseeing Wasilla? Do you really want the gritty details regarding the installation of new traffic lights?

Sarah Palin's biography is a mere 5 chapters because she has done sooooooo much! HA!

What in the Hell has Obama accomplished? I have been asking that question ever since I first heard his name, and have yet to get an answer. I've read this thread back and forth twice, along with multiple such hate sites for months now. and have yet to see a substantial fact regarding Sarah. Generalizations, nothing more. Willing to guess the majority of you libs' knowledge of this woman came from SNL.
FACTS PLEASE!!

Well thetone, the fact is she lied or at least REALLY stretched the truth in this book. Did you read the article?

Now if you're talking about going back throughout the election, I'd need a bigger forum for all the typing I'd have to do.

Well, if you're too dense to get it by now, then why would I waste my time spelling it out for you once again?

Don't read much do you. The Audacity of Hope is in no way an autobiography but he did write it himself and won a grammy for the audio version.

Let's digress for a moment. McCain made a decision to find a female running mate to counter his black/white competitors and possibly pick up what he perceived was Hilliarys women supporters. The waman he chose was Sarah Palin, a virtually unknown Governor from one of our smallest states. The choice was not based on the brilliant and remarkable record of Sarah. No, she was just available, the less people knew about her the better. Sarah is only doing what most of us would do when an opportunity arises, take advantage of it. She wants to be rich, she's on her way. To succeed in this country you have to be in the right place at the right time, have a little charisma, be ambitious and things will go your way. Sarah may not be good for the country, but she knows what some of us want her to be, and that's what is going to make her wealthy.

Sarah may be very good for the country if she runs for President in 2012, wiseone.

This would assure Obama of a second term, which would be good indeed for America.

Exactly. The Republicans won't run Palin because she could never win -- with 4 more years in changing demographics the Republicans will need someone much more socially moderate and fiscally competent, both in political ability and leadership.

I have always suspected that when those running the campaigned nixed Liberman that McCain went into one of his infamous pouts and didn't care who they chose. The first and most lasting error of a campaign that was one long error was the fact that he chose a campaign staff that didn't believe in his ability to win.

Stubborn orneriness--good for getting through captivity, not so good for presidential campaigns.

Let's not forget that Palin was discovered by none other than Bill Kristol, head cheerleader of the "greet us as liberators" Iraq invasion policy.

Sarah Palin continues to be the train wreck so gruesome and fatal that we all slow down to look.
More telling is the fact that this silly and dissembling clown has been and is the very best the Republican Party has to offer for the office of President of the United States.
(AlanD2 above is absolutely right. Her candidacy would assure Obama of a second term).
Run!Sarah!Run!

Who didn't see this coming?

I don't think she realizes the full extent of the problem she has created here. She put this stuff in writing so the next time she needs to alter the truth to fit her needs there is going to be documentation of a previous "truth."

She is extremely short sighted. But she can always come back later and say the publisher altered the "truth" in her book without her permission. That's what she's done with McCain aides. She has been clever enough not to blame McCain directly--just all those damn unsupervised rogue aides!

Everything is somebody else's fault, isn't it Sarah!

The Daily beast needs a new section, Sarah Palin Beast.

America's fascination with Palin is fascinating to say the least. It's got nothing to do with any thing remotely intelligent, or even worth listening to, that she's ever said, for we all know how articulate, well-informed and intelligent she is, and has been ever since she opened her mouth, for the first time, on national TV.

America's fixation on Palin has more, or pretty much every thing, to do with America's shortcomings, shallowness, immaturity and obsession with scandals, trivial entertainment - especially if that person happens to be good-looking and controversial. If Sara were an old hag, you know that we will have heard the last of her as soon as the curtain came down on their failed and disastrous campaign.

For a nation that is supposed to be highly advanced in so many ways, we are way, way down on the list of emotional and social intelligence, and we continue to prove it day in, day out. Only humans, in the animal kingdom, can be so smart, and yet so stupid - so advanced technologically and in many other ways, yet so backward, underdeveloped and almost intellectually retarded.

America, and much of the world - for that matter, for stupidity knows no boundaries and doesn't discriminate, have a lot of growing up to do - and that is scary, as we hold the world hostage, literally, to our haphazard, unwise, selfish and rash decisions and whims; and with all the power we posses, military and economic, God save us and protect us, and the world, from our own dangerous stupidity.

i could not agree more; america's fascination with good looking stupid people is going to lead to a major disaster if this woman is elected to any office where she can do any harm; sarah from wassila thinks the world is a simple place; she is mistaken.....it is very dangerous and complex; i am sorry but the completion over five years of an undergraduate degree from a third rate college and getting elected to office in a hillbilly area that has the population of a small city does not qualify a person for the presidency of the most powerful nation on earth. she is an interesting side show and will in all likelihood self destruct. she will manage to make a fair bit of money doing it. as they say "only in america"

Fact checking Sarah Palin's book is like looking for needles in haystacks. Besides, Sarah doesn't have to tell the truth, after all she's a member in good standing in the right-wing-liars-club, headed up by Flush Limbo, Fake News and assorted other media-whores.
In the Republican Party, the truth is "optional," but no recommended.
