Feds to Seize Mosques, Skyscraper Tied to Iran
Federal prosecutors seized four Shiite Muslim mosques and a 36-story New York skyscraper owned by a nonprofit Muslim organization with suspected ties to the Iranian government Thursday. The Alavi Foundation, which is part of the alleged front company Assa Corp., is being asked to forfeit all of their U.S. properties, totaling $500 million in assets. The foundation is being accused of laundering money back to Iran's state-owned Bank Melli, with which the U.S. has outlawed doing business because of its suspected role in Iran's nuclear program. The foundation provides imprisoned Muslims in the U.S. with educational literature and support for Iranian academics. There are few instances in U.S. history in which a religious place of worship has been seized, because of the First Amendment right to religious freedom.

Zionism is a political movement that was formed as a response to the holocaust and facilitated the movement for a homeland for the Jews. With Zionism being a political movement... it would be disingenuous to be painting with the antisemitism brush on a discussion on political policy. It is more provocation. Will the US also shut down Israeli financial institutions that have played a role in supporting that nation's nuclear program? It really does seem like no one in this administration wants to bring an end to middle east instability by allowing middle east parity.
It's unfair, but Iran cannot be trusted with nukes, it's that simple. Once the nuclear issue is removed, then we can talk about tit for tats and bias towards Israel. I don't support Israel's possession of nukes, but I nor anyone else is worried that they will use them unless they are invaded. It's the pragmatic reality.
@ Khepri...My head sunk slightly when I read the headline, however, after reading further that this was aimed at Iran, not at " suspected " radical Islam, my view changed. I still don't believe it is a good idea to target and close houses of worship, where throngs of likely quite innocent Muslim congregate in prayer. It is likely that radical clerics in America are a great deal more secretive about their ideas and plans and therefore don't preach openly with their " death to the infidel " messages. So it's likely a large portion of the Muslims who pray there have no idea where there money is going, so why target the entire community ? Our government can target bank accounts etc.
I suspect our government knows more than they are telling and for as much as I condemn violence in the ME, regardless of which side is the perpetrator, there is simply no getting around the fact that AJ and his overlords, have and continue to call for Israel's destruction ( Holocaust...what Holocaust ? ). These are simply unacceptable public positions, no matter what motives on which they are founded ( Israeli treatement of Palestinians ).
The recently attempted revolution in Iran has proven that there is a significant divide between that " government " and a large ( growing ) segment of Iran's population. Therefore we on the outside must look at these recent actions as directed at AJ et al. and not the people of Iran. Does Iran really need nuclear power when they still have large oil deposits ?
One day I hope to see this, but should a complete overhaul occur in Iran where moderates take over, once we are 100% sure that they are not a wolf in sheep's clothing, should they wish to pursue nuclear power ambitions, it will/would likely be condoned ( weaponization is another story, given global nuclear dissarmement objectives ).
Israel is guilty of many things but it has proven that their beef ( right or wrong ) is purely territorial, not religious or cultural. It has decent relations with Jordan and Egypt, both of which are very Arab, very Muslim nations. Iran on the other hand hates on Isreali's and Jews. Very different position, even if Muslim radicals love to accuse Israel of bigotry !

Comments about bias towards Israel are valid, however, in all practicality, I think it is critical that the West play hardball against Iran regarding nuclear weapons, for everyones sake, not just Israel, every Arab state, Turkey (NATO member), which are enemies of Iran as well. If Iran would back off the nuclear issue, then I would be up in arms on this, but until then, the West should shut that country down. It's not fair, and the US and UK have a bad history of creating the problem - but that's not the point - we are where we are - and we don't want them to have nukes - period.
Most of us do not see Iran as a threat. Iran has no nukes and has not started a war for over 100 years. Israel has a large nuclear stockpile that worries us all and they will not allow UN inspectors into view the nukes. We do think the loose canon apartheid church state of Israel will use their nukes when they feel they are losing one of their many ongoing holy wars. This is a threat to all of us and very frightening. If Israel did not intend to use the nukes then why do they have them; for "protection"???? This is a very shaky country funded by money AIPAC procures from their puppet the USA. Israel fights wars with anyone and everyone on a continuum as well as steals land from wherever they can get it. It's time for Israel to allow the UN nuclear weapons inspectors into their bought and paid for country with USA taxpayer money; also time for Israel to return the stolen land to the rightful owners. It's also time for the USA to begin giving all the countries in the Middle East the same amount of money it gives to the apartheid church state of Israel. One example of this manipulation of the public is the claim that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad publicly said that Iran should wipe Israel off the face of the earth... as reported to the American public... however other, more concise, translations of that speech reveal that he said that the disputes concerning Israel and the Palestinians should be made as if it had never happened...
To me... that statement sounds far less threatening than what was sold to us by the mass media... in fact, it sounds like a peaceful direction is sought. But this peaceful direction is not in the interest of the Zionists who stand to make billions of dollars through military excursions and oil plundering.

After 9/11, 1400 American Muslims were detained for periods of up to 3 years on little or no evidence. This is only going to deepen the chasm America is making with some of it's own citizens.

There is not much the government can do to punish the number one rogue nation. Iran has strong trade relations with China and Russia and is supported by them. Going to court in an attempt to seize the assets of an Iranian foundation is a small step in the right direction, it will be in front of judges for years. Some say we should blockade Iran. But It makes no sense to risk world war three so we can bring democracy and pork to Iran.
We shouldn't risk a war to keep Iran from having nuclear weapons. What could go wrong with allowing an entire country ruled by people who think the Twelfth Iman will come and make all the earth Moslem if only they help out a little by wiping out Israel? What could possibly go wrong with that scenario?

The conspiracy theories in these comments show how prevalent disinformation is on the web. People want the conspiracy so they can have an 'other' to hate that is politically correct with their indigenous environment. The Jews have a lot of power in the states because of the support of successful people and the politicians. A lot of influential people are Jewish in the states, and they happen to have a stake in a developing country by virtue of their religion. To the Jews, the reason they have land on a very base level is essentially that everyone was trying to kill them for awhile, and it was decided to give them a way to defend themselves to prevent another Jewish Holocaust. This factored in with Israel being our best ally in the middle-east -- one of the few, indeed, that do not teach that our culture is evil, and you have the reality -- Israel is important to the US as an ally. I want the government of Israel to stop the settlers, because I believe that by focusing on the real problem, instead if some conspiracy, the citizens opinions can have an effect on the 'real world.'
In a nation where one half of the population is illitarate, you cannot unite the people under anything other then religion or nationalism. This is the case with Iran and was the case nearly everywhere before the introcution of eduaction as a staple of childhood.
The truth is if you want to unite a state based on some ideology, like say democracy, you really have to educate the population first.
I do not claim to have the solution to all problems, I only say that based on what I have seen and learned, the pathway to a better world is education. So I say lets focus on that.
