Fort Hood Survivors Speak Out
Survivors of the Fort Hood shooting describe a brutal scene in which suspected gunman Major Nidal Malik Hasan fired into unarmed crowds at close range—but their stories also include tales of heroism. Spec. Elliot Valdez, in an interview with The New York Times, likened people in the waiting room at the Soldier Readiness Processing Center to "fish in a barrel" and said that “It’s too easy. You can close your eyes and hit eight people.” Pfc. Marquest Smith, a 21-year-old father of two who was at the center to fill out paperwork, told the Times he grabbed a clerk to the ground after the shots broke out and ran from the building once he thought the attacker had run out of ammunition. Returning to drag wounded people to safety, he found himself under fire from the gunman and only narrowly escaped. “He had his back turned toward me,” Smith said. “And when I turned to run, that’s when I started hearing rounds going past my body, hitting the wall.” Another soldier, Pfc. Jeffrey Pearsall, used his pickup truck to quickly transport victims to a nearby emergency room.

The pathetic "ho hum" from the obama will have a lasting memory for most Americans. His non support for the troops is showing up not only in Afghanistan but also in domestic security. If military were able to speak out the backlash would be a huge condemnation.
I'm not getting all this anger toward our President about his response to the tragedy at Fort Hood. His response has been solemn, compassionate and appropriate. The investigation is ongoing and no doubt the military is already taking action in securing our posts and bases. No doubt he will keep tabs on the investigation; and will follow through with the appropriate response as recommended by the military. I don't know what more you people want.
You obviously didn't see his previous 2 minutes and 13 seconds of his teleprompter speech. Nothing he says about the troops holds sincerity. He's proven his sincerity by ignoring the troops request for help. Where's the "support the troop", we need Humvee's , armor plates and on and on.. your so pathetic in your partisan dribble. Look back 1square to Bush hate and you'll find your answer.
It seems his healthcare bill has all his attention.Multitasking,as we have seen so far is not a strongpoint.
if you are glenbeck then iamrushlimbaugh and you need to STFU - that's an order!!!
Only can praise the response of those under fire. Slightly off topic: with so much talk on news concerning the shooter's mental state, do I hear the faint rise of insanity plea: this always leaves a bad taste in my mouth, as one slightly crocked in the head, since no matter how far out I might go under whatever influence, my deeds are mine.
Perhaps "guilty by reason of insanity" would be OK. Where the prisoner is in a mental institution for the length of their sentence and if made sane, goes to prison for the remainder of their sentence. I do agree, OldJoe, that shooting unknown people is always a bit crazy but not an excuse.

Plenty more to hear in the future....we still have 7 more years. 3 if America wakes up sooner. You'll run out of George Bush quotes soon enough at the rate Obama is going.
Run out of Bush quotes???
LOL----Never Happen.
There has never been anyone quite that stupid---Not even Reagan !
Hey devil...
Those were just quotes from 2008-2009 (besides the first few). Should I open it up all the way?
Dont stop jaydeekay,....It's like a walk down bad memory lane..LOL
I'm not saying Bush doesn't sound stupid, as you mistakenly assume. But I was able to so easily make the point that Obama says things just as stupid, and almost just as often, sometimes even worse than Bush.
I'm not saying you'll run out either. But given that Bush is out of office and Obama is in office, the supply of Obama quotes will increase at a greater rate than those of Bush. While you dig away through 9 years of history, I only have to casually read, and listen to the news to find more. Oh you make this too easy for me. To my advantage, if Obama goes off the teleprompter, he usually makes a stupid comment, because he relies too heavily on prepared remarks. But if he stays on teleprompter he ends up messing things up still, like thanking himself accidentally. In fact, I could go so far as to find separate instances of Obama making contradictory statements.
I still have more from the past 2 years, so go ahead and dig if you like. In fact, work hard. It's always good practice.
A politician is a politicians is a politician.
BUT... this being only about smarts... yeah, let's put that to the test.
Wanna go?
Oh...
And no digging needed, I promise you.
Just type 'bush quotes' into a Goggle search. The plethora of quotes will boggle the mind.
Using Google to boggle... at the shrub's expense. It's only fair.
devil Do you know we have 57 states. {obama says so}
Mal - there you go again. Being a hateful, ignorant asshole. You need to go live in Saudi Arabia; I think you'd like their laws and I know they'd like you, especially your attitude.
Well, how does one follow that drivel? Off topic and weak. If thats all you can come up with to put Obama in a bad light, you need to consider another hobby, you are clearly failing here.
Returning to the topic:
I am deeply concerned that, while trying to promote "heroes", ( a highly overused term, IMO), no one is questioning how an an armed person could kill and wound so many on a military installation?
One report has him firing more that 100 rounds. I'm no gun expert, but if your weapon holds 10 rounds, that means you re-loaded at least 5 times. (2 guns). I do know that it takes 2 hands to reload.
How can 1 guy inflict so much damage on a base where these people are trained to take fire? This argument "he shot into a crowd" doesn't hold water with me. In the above article the interviewee even said, "his back was to me" good missed opportunity I guess.
I think this was a friendly fire incident. Over 40 people shot from 100 rounds from 2 handguns on a military base? you do the math.
No one follows that drivel. They just wait for a break with those nutjobs and then try and post something related to the topic..
There is some doubt about whether Hasan did this alone or were there others as well as the theory you posted about friendly fire.
A lot of people were assuming that on a military post, everyone carries a gun. Not true according to local military (here in Killeen) posting on other forums. I've read in the local news that just the MP's and army police force typically carry guns on post -- not the soldiers.
Military installations are filled with trained personel. The primary duty of any service member is to face enemy fire and they are all trained in that respect. I am questioning how 1 man was able to inflict so much damage, fire off over 100 rounds with 2 handguns, prior to being subdued.
Columbine wasn't as succesful and they had automatic rifles against people with zero training.
There is more to this story than is being let on.
It was my understanding that the section he was in did not have anyone armed.
I would assume the same thing. I was active duty for 4 years and have been serving in the Air National Guard for 2, and the only places you (typically) see weapons are on MPs at the gates or in their patrol vehicles and at high security areas, such as the armory.
He opened fire in a processing station, where most people have their guard down and are either in-processing or out-processing.
Also, according to reports I have read, he was next door to an auditorium filled with unarmed personnel.
It is important to note, too, that a large percentage of people on any given military facility, both home and overseas, are civilians. Overseas, there are civilian contractors. At home, there are military family members, retirees, contractors, government workers, reporters, etc.
Few people are prepared to deal with hostile situations such as this. The body count does seem high for one shooter with two handguns (even if one is semi-automatic), and original accounts did mention that friendly fire was a possibility. I definitely wouldn't rule it out.
Yeah, all this irrational hatred directed toward our president does seem a little strange, until you realize its true source. These rightwing bigots just can't stand the fact that we actually voted one of those "black, african american negroes" into the White House.
They are the same turkeys who used to scream "unpatriotic!", whenever anyone criticised their draft-dodging heroes in the previous administration. It's a shame, because I thought we had managed to destroy their ideology once and for all in Germany, in WW2.
I really began to wonder if anyone here remembered that this was about heros and not about posting intense hatred for Obama.... How amazing... all these people that supposedly love our service men and women posting only hatred....
The shooter, Major Nidal Malik Hasan, may have had 2 handguns with him.
The first was a large caliber semi-automatic pistol with a magazine containing up to 20 rounds.
The second handgun may have been a revolver.
Some witnesses claimed to see a few empty clips on the floor so the shooter may have reloaded his pistol more than once.
Regardless, a lot of shots were fired and a lot of people were hit. There were probably others shooting willy-nilly and many of the dead and wounded may have been from "friendly fire," or more accurately, people going bananas and firing at anyone and anything.
The same thing happens in Iraq and Afghanistan on a daily basis.
Pull the US military morons out of Afghanistan, out of Iraq, out of Kuwait, out of Germany, out of Japan, out of Guam.
Cut the US military moron budget. Cut the budget for all those queer US military moron uniforms. Cut the budget for those queer US military marching bands. Cut the budget for all the taxpayer provided give-aways to US military morons.
The US military has turned into the largest welfare program on earth.
The US military is so dysfunctional they PROMOTED Nidal Malik Hasan to the rank of Major moron.
So do you find every article just so you can keep using the moron tag you are so fond of?
You are about as sick as this Hasan who fired on these innocent military people who defend your rights to say this idiotic things as noted here in your comments. I would love to see someone like you spend one week in the shoes of these military people you would last one day maybe? Get a life.
I am saddened to read many of the comments made here about these killings at Ft. Hood. What about the families of these people who were killed and injured are we so immune today to the loss these people had to endure? My heart breaks and hurts for these people? Now our military has to find a way to weed out this kind of protestor to the military and to our country? Have to find a way to release those who cannot stay and fight in our country, let them go and why didn't he leave this country and go where he felt at an allegiance, and yes have them pay back something for all they benefit by being in military. I heard a radio talk show host say that the military paid millions for this Hasan and they could not afford to let him go, WHAT? You tell this to the families that now have lost their loved ones to this total crazy religious fanatic? No one saw he had a problem sorry do not believe this at all.
Thank you.
