Glenn Beck Is the New Oprah

Glenn Beck could be the best thing to hit the flagging publishing industry since Oprah's book club. He's one of the few talk-show hosts to carve out time for authors on-air—and he loves him some thriller writers. On his weekly radio show and daily television Fox News program, which attract audiences of 9 million and 2.7 million respectively, Beck has interviewed about 40 thriller writers including David Baldacci, Nelson DeMille, and James Patterson. While Beck often selects thrillers that push his own political agenda (such as Vince Flynn's latest novel, which includes a scene where a CIA operative defends harsh interrogation tactics before Congress), the conservative host has also interviewed liberal writer Andrew Gross. The endorsements have the power to help bolster sales. For example, James Rollins' recent thriller The Doomsday Key stayed in the New York Times Top 10 fiction best-seller list for longer than novels of its type usually due, thanks in part to Rollins' stint on Glenn Beck.

Glenn Beck's book selections have boosted book sales and created or saved more jobs in the publishing industry then Obama's trillion dollar porkulus spending.....and all without adding a dollar to the US budget deficit.

You don't need numbers to see he's helping publishing industry.....just did it actually save more jobs than the stimulus money.....doubt it.

At any rate......endorsing people to read more is never a bad thing.

The article reports on the salutory effect that Beck's book promotion efforts for other people's books and his own book sales have had on the publishing industry.

Liberals have a great capacity for self-delusion, but attacking Beck for promoting books and encouraging people to read books is a new low, even for liberals.

I think Stephen King (who will never appear on Beck's show, I'm sure) said it best: Beck is "Satan's mentally challenged younger brother"

Who's attacking? I salute Glenn Beck for promoting reading of any kind, much as I do his colleagues Big Bird and Capt. OG Readmore. In particular I'd love it if he got more of his followers to read Thomas Paine's "Common Sense" which Beck tried to use to brand himself as some sort of modern day founding father. I wonder how they'd react to find out that Paine was an intellectual, a product of the Enlightenment principles that Conservatives are still opposing 200 years later, a deist and decidedly anti-religion. Oops, no, best we just gloss over that and read Beck's book, huh?

Glenn Beck is a joke but his staff is one hell of an investigative journalist team. Meanwhile, the drive-by media fiddles wondering when their next White House party invite will arrive. This era will be considered as one of the darkest for professional journalism, and I speak as a former insider. I saw it coming 30 years ago, got out while I still had a moral compass and untainted values. Liberty or Tyranny -- you choose!

TV cable ratings on Tuesdays election night.....Fox-4,043.000
Msnbc-974,000, Cnn-826,000-Hln-842,000. Now explain the problem with Fox?

The problem with FOX is that 24 hour television news is probably the worst form of media to get your news from short of purely editorial sources such as blogs or talk radio. It tends towards sensationalism and opinion aimed toward the short attention span of television watchers versus the more in-depth nature of professionally written news. It's a fallacy to assume that all people use cable news as their news source of choice and that ratings have anything at all to do with relevancy or the quality of the reporting.

Also, FOX news watchers and conservatives in general had a lot more to prove in Tuesday's elections and probably turned out and paid attention to the results more than any other group.

Since you asked.

I love Beck's new book title. "How to argue with idiots!" (Of course I can actually spell.) But what made me really laugh, someone needs to tell Glenn that he has actually been looking in a mirror. But how does one break it to him? You don't wake up a sleep walker. They will fall and break their neck.

Don't let Oprah hear that; she'll have Beck's head on a platter.
