Goldman 'Doing God's Work'

Llyod Blankfein
Manuel Balce Ceneta / AP Photo

Whatever you call him, Lloyd Blankfein says he’s just a banker “doing God’s work.” The Sunday Times profiles money-making machine Goldman Sachs, and the result is maddening, inspiring, or amusing, depending on where you fall on the populist-rage scale. The newspaper says that for Blankfein, Goldman’s CEO, “the credit crunch has rekindled his innate passion for moneymaking.” Learn how the bank makes its money and how its alums end up with choice political appointments, all in their own words: "We didn’t f*** up like the other guys… So, now we’ve got a bigger and richer pot to piss in." “We don’t club baby seals. We club babies." Adds a rival, "They’re a clever gang—of thugs." Oddest factoid: Goldmanites must check their voicemail frequently for Blankfein’s “mind bullet” messages—as well as those of his wife, who is officially an executive office, but unofficially the camp counselor.

Not quite that's God as in David Rockefeller..! Goldman Sachs answers to the Bilderberg Group first and foremost...

People have a right to make money but that's doesn't men there is no ethical concern...

Goldman Sachs is a parasite that raises the cost of things without producing or transporting or contributing it, is an adversary to the American economy and American people's best interest..!

Why TJ, how in the world can you call them parasites?
I too, was confused until reading this article, but now
it all makes sense.

Goldman Sachs is truly doing God's work, and we all know
that God works in mysterious ways. "Go forth and multiply
those dollars; increase those annual bonuses, fatten thine
wallets."

What happens when God meets Allah? Which one of these old
boys is the Big Dog? Who do we bow down before? Which is
holier? Is it the god which defiles human females, the one which
covers their shameful, and lust-inducing faces?

Or is it the god that declares this world is ours for the taking; go
forth and multiply, ravish and defile, but at the end of the day,
bring me back a bag full of loot.

Ahhh, shucks! Fester, that don't sound holy to me. You reckon
that ole Allah will send some of his suicide bomber boys into
Mr. Blankfein's hall of mammon and say, "Let's git er on?"

Naw...,

I am so happy to hear folks are catching onto the Bilderberg Group followed closely by The Trilateralists. If you read anything, study these groups.

Goldman-Sachs I'm sure you know is the main supporter to Obama whom, I supported and voted for and, Goldman have and has had for many years officers of their firm in high office in our government.

They threw the rules of campaign donations out the window, axed equal time and privatized our media outlets, we were screwed. One of the best things I think we could do is fight for campaign finance reform because the bribes and conflicts of interest they have now made legal. The sad thing is after their debts are paid, any monies left in the cauffers of the congress are theirs, free money.

My father's generation fought WWII, we have the Civil Rights Movement and fought to end the war in Vietnam not to speak of, losing 3 great leaders. We watched as our government dabled in breaking the law with Watergate and absolutely refuse to enfoce our laws by granting Nixon a pardon. It is now those from 20-45 who have to take back our country, our democracy and protect our borders.

Reagan completely gave these guy free reign on us with a lot of help from both Bush's and so help me God, Bill Clinton. It is said Clinton was the best Republican the Republicans had.

I pray someone will take up the mantle and take it to Washington. Noise is the only thing that works but trouble is, they have co-opted our media outlets a we really have no clue when stuff happens...we need to organize and get this done.

Just my 2 cents worth, God Bless us All.

TWBBug,
I think that you are right except for one point... the coup de tat has already happened and our country is infested on every front. The place to start is to petition for a total recall of all of our elected criminals.
I find it revealing that Blankenfein thinks that he is doing God's work because the Jesuits tie the Nazis directly to the Vatican and Croatia is the perfect example. I came across this video today wile studding Ustasha's and it has me freaked... check it out... but you might want to skip the rugh stuff in the middle:
http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-2056809713202851835&ei=u9f2SpWN AqL6rAK68a38Bw&q=Ustasha&client=firefox-a#
It supports everything that you claim.
If you find any spaces in the address... take them out to make it work.

No one challenges their right to make money! The problem arises from their patently illegal behavior - Front running reports before publication, insider trading etc. and the government's refusal to go after them.

I must admit a certain jealousy. I will speculate that the god being talked about is mammon rather than the one that the Bible claims is in charge of creation. And no, I didn't read the linked article. I tried to, but this is all news from one of the bizzaro universes.

It is interesting that the Lloyd Blankfein's wife is described as "officially an executive office". One can only hope that is TDB sloppy editing and not really the case.

For the Christians out there:

Matthew 19:23-24 (New International Version)

23Then Jesus said to his disciples, "I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God."

And then the conversation between the disciples and Jesus, an exemplary human being if there ever was one, continues...

25 When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, "Who then can be saved?"

26 Jesus looked at them and said, "With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible."

Of course the kingdom of heaven or the kingdom of God were just as much as a worldview and value system for the living as they were a (possible) destination in the (possible) afterlife for the dead of this world.

So if Jesus was just a teacher then he was correct in his observation. And if he was who he claimed to be, then I would imagine he's also right about that.

Not being a believer, I DO believe Jesus to be the most interesting and powerful person featured in the Christian scriptures... especially when the Gnostic beliefs are factored in.

Housebird---I checked out the article you posted, and it ranges far and wide. As a result of that article's references to the Book of Revelations, I actually dusted off my childhood bible to read this Book of Revelations that so infatuates our wingnuts.

Couldn't make heads or tails out of it.

That's why it's the favorite of nuts. Actually, it's just a prediction that the Roman Empire will fall for persecuting Christians, but disguised enough not to get you crucified for reading it. I'm sure it made more sense in the first century to fans of the Book of Daniel. Even so, it is easier to follow than anything housebird says.

Who could w/o some help: a basic understanding of biblical exegesis and hermeunetics might help, along with some familiarity with imagery, symbolism, role of prophecy (no, not the Tim LaHaye kind, but how it actually functions in the Biblical narrative), and context.

The Book of Revelation sounds pretty much like someone transcribed a vision attained by the generous use of hashish.

It's a mystery to me why (Saint) Jerome kept it in the official biblical canon.

People use religion as an excuse for everything.....from discriminating against gays/lesbians, to justifying war, to forcing babies to be born, and know corporate welfare.

One of my favorite Woody Allen lines:

"If jesus came down and saw everything being done in his name, he's never stop throwing up".

Goldman Sachs is a company roughly the size of Amazon.com, but instead of selling books and things people need in order to earn their living, they instead have to roil markets continuously, bankrupt Governments, destroy financial markets and otherwise cause mayhem to Capitalism. How is this possibly in anyone's self interest, other than their own?

If this is God's Work, you might be speaking to the devil himself and misinterpreting who your God really is. Your God is money and whatever destruction befalls others, is, well, just tough luck. I have a better idea. Until Goldman Sachs is put out of business and markets are returned to Investors and not those who 'serve' Investors, then we really don't have an economy, a Government, a Community, or more recently....A JOB! These folks are gleefully bankrupting America and making a profit running the Usury Chain of Charles Dickens, complete with 'The Artful Dodger' and Scrooge himself.

The Country will never be allowed to grow as long as the Goldman Sach's of the world are allowed to operate. Does anyone miss Lehman Brothers or Bear Stearns? Where is the remorse over the death of these companies? None? Just as I thought, nobody will miss Goldman Sachs either. Once they are gone, everyone will be able to breathe easier. Let's hope it is sooner rather than later. The clock is ticking, the game is on, and the Nation is going bankrupt at an increasing rate, including the entire State of California, all so that a company the size of Amazon.com can earn some coin.

When do the thousands of other companies the size of Amazon.com rise up and put a stop to the meanderings of these mice in the pantry of Capitalism?

God is lazy in my opinion and has people do the work for him-her. It obviously knows where to place the highest positions, because I suck at banking, maybe that's why Goldman is working for the lord. Did they apply?

Oh, ours is a land
Where the living is grand,
And the men are as fearless as sharks;
The women are pure,
And we always sure
That our children will all toe their marks.
San, San Lo-ren-zo!
What a rich, lucky island are we!
Our enemies quail,
For they know they will fail
Against people so reverent and free.

Clearly bankers still do not get it.
The FBI clearly does understand that the US banking industry has become another form of organized crime now that it has started to use methods such as wiretaps and paid informants.
What does Goldman do? Seems they move around other peoples money using complex instruments that turn out to be a series of bets on this and that, and then cream off a percentage between 2 to 20% and add nothing to the real economy. Meanwhile millions of hardworking stiffs have lost their savings, pensions, homes, jobs
No Lloyd, you are not doing Gods work, you are a conman.

Now that health care has cleared the House of Representatives, maybe, just maybe, the House will take up the cause of financial reform. The uncontrolled greed of our financial services sector has untold damage to America as a whole. We need Congress to pass laws which will allow us to rein in their greedy actions. We need to take risks, but the fall-out of those risks that go wrong must be known in advance or limited in scope. Since we cannot predict the future, we cannot accurately predict the fall-out in advance. Our only choice is to limit the scope of the risks.

One of the best ways to limit the scope is to limit the size of corporations. We must never be in the situation of dealing with companies that are too big to fail. Clearly, they can fail. We must limit the size so that the financial system can take their failure in stride.

God does not have to sue, his court is the law, and nomatter what any man says, they will get the wrath of his anger. I always think about all the things that are being done against God and or their fellow human beings, and see it all the time that, they always get their fair share of punishment. Revenge is mine sayeth the Lord!

The achilles heel of capitalism is that it doesn't differentiate between value-creating activities (like curing cancer, commercial lending) and 'value neutral' activities, like gambling. Most forms of 'investing' are really just gambling - gambling on the outcomes of stocks instead of horses. Warren Buffet does 'value investing' - which is an important activity. You can tell the difference between the two by determining if there is net economic benefit from the activity. For example, Warren Buffet does good. If Goldman were to disappear tomorrow, the economy might be in better shape - therefore they are definitely not 'adding to the pie' they are actually extracting from it.

We need a smarter form of capitalism - one that encourages real, value creating entrepreneurialism and hard work, and one that totally detracts form value neutral or value destroying activities. Today - it's possible to very legally make a lot of money - while reducing the size of the pie and hurting everyone. Everyone needs to wake up and see this.
