Israel Strikes Gaza

Israeli aircraft attacked two suspected weapons-making factories in the Gaza Strip on Sunday morning, wounding at least seven people, despite a recent informal promise of a ceasefire from Gaza. Gaza's Hamas rulers had recently agreed to stop firing rockets, which Hamas's interior minister said was designed to prevent Israeli retaliation. Israel's offensive in December and January killed 1,400 Palestinians, according to U.N. estimates. Thirteen Israelis were killed. The offensive was meant to crush rocket squads that had disturbed Southern Israel for years. “We will defend ourselves with all means possible and we will counter any new offensives,” said a spokesman for Hamas, after the Israeli strikes.

Plantagenet

Hamas promised to stop firing rockets from Gaza into Israel and then fired another rocket into Israel. Obviously Israel has the right to defend itself against rocket attacks from Hamasitan.

Hi Plantagenet!
Does it help or hurt your arguments when demsdisorder agrees with you?

Plantagenet

Hi reasonable!

Arguments and political positions stand or fall based on their own merits. Isn't that the most reasonable way to evaluate arguments?

reasonable

Hi Plantagenet!
I haven't seen any reasonable arguments presented on TDB yet, but if I do I'll let you know.

Plant: Suggest you read the comment again. At this time, the Palestinians did not fire rockets into Israel. The Israeli's made a preemptive strike against buildings where they suspected the Palestinians were making weapons.

The US meddles in a lot of countries around the world at taxpayer expense. Some of that meddling is necessary. I would love to see more $ spent in places like The Sudan where there is immeasurable human suffering, instead of places like Iraq and Afghanistsn. The US has a long history of ignoring a variety of countries where human rights are being violated regularly and wholesale slaughter is taking place. These places usually don't have anything to offer us in return, so the slaughter continues.

Let us keep in mind that 1400 Palestinians were killed by the Israelis, and was it four Israelis killed by the Palestinians, during the murderous Israeli rampage in Gaza a year ago?

"I disagree with the Obama administration on that," Palin told Walters. "I believe that the Jewish settlements should be allowed to be expanded upon, because that population of Israel is, is going to grow. More and more Jewish people will be flocking to Israel in the days and weeks and months ahead."

Yes Norton,

it's already been established that Sarah Palin is both a moron and a religious zealot who would be happy with the destruction of a Jewish state either via settlement expansion or the return of the Christians before they kill off the Jews. Leave her alone to sell her books; she doesn't belong in a topic dealing with foreign policy.

nortonclybourn - - Bravo! An imbecile even worse than George W. Bush! Palin is an eager stooge of the neocons manipulating US foreign policy in an insane effort to enable continuing oppression of the Palestinians by the Israelis.

It may help us all to remember that war and hatred between the Jews and the Arabs is not new. It has been going on for a few thousand years, long before the US sold anything to Israel. This in mind, brings me to the conclusion, one that I arrived at long ago, that there will never be peace between the Jews and the Arabs. I will celebrate long and hard if the day arrives that a lasting peace occurs.

theschmooze- - Israel has a solid offer of peace before it, and its failure to take the offer owes not a little to the many people who argue "why make peace"? Translation, of course, is that with the US to provide protection, at the cost of course of tens of billions per year, why not continue to oppress the Palestinians?
