Israel’s Plan of Attack

HP Main - CS Gaza Attacks 397
Muhammed Muheisen / AP

What does the Israeli offensive look like behind-the-scenes? According to Haaretz, Israel began planning its operation in Gaza six months ago. The plan involved “Long-term preparation, careful gathering of information, secret discussions, operational deception and the misleading of the public.” Defense Minister Ehud Barak approved the plan on November 19, and Prime Minister Ehud Olmert approved it on December 18. An example of Israel’s use of disinformation was its announcement during the week that it would deliberate its course of action today—one day after the strike was already ordered. "Hamas evacuated all its headquarter personnel after the cabinet meeting on Wednesday," one defense official said, "but the organization sent its people back in when they heard that everything was put on hold until Sunday." In other news, the Palestinian Authority said it is ready to take over Gaza, should the Israeli operation succeed in overthrowing Hamas.

As I'm an ardent supporter of Israel since my teenager years
my interest in the Hebrew language has been growing ever since Israel won decisively in the 1967-6day June war where I saw Defense Minister General Moshe Dayan entering the gate of Jerusalem with his victorious troops. Besides that our beloved Pope Paul11 visited the Wailing Wall & he also prayed there. I also was fortunate enough to visit the Holy Land with my wife last year(2007) & I also touched the Wailling Wall to pray. Took some pictures with some young Jewish Bible scholars in Jerusalem. My wife & myself went there together with other Aussie Catholics.

So, Israel is a bad actor for misleading the people who've been tossing missiles into its cities as to when Israel would respond?

Hardly.

Each state (or would-be state) owes to its neighbors the minimal duty that missiles not be launched from its territory into a neighboring state's cities. Failure to do so, will and should result in military reprisals at a minimum.

The radical Palestinians using terror as a political tool are scum--akin to Osama bin Laden, but the balance of justice cannot be seen as all one way as long as Israel continues to push Palestinians off their land to make room for new walled enclaves populated by preferred immigrants imported from around the world. What Israel is doing to populate new territory in the West Bank with its own radicalized immigrants is colonialism in its most basic form--land taken from one people in preference to another, marked with all the racial imperialism that the King of Belgium one manifested.

Not as a justification, in the least, of the Palestinian radical's murderous behavior, but as a rule of human nature: Malcolm X was correct when he said, "No peace without justice."

What if India decided to invade pakistan? Pakistanis actually entered india and killed hundreds. They have done that several times too. Israel is only making this worse by indiscriminately killing everyone and everything. We all feel sympathy for Jews but they must realize that they have the overwhelming power and must know how to wield it responsibly. I wish we could extricate ourselves from these ancient and forever enemies but i know whats coming. Suicide attacks on americans.

You say, "What if India decided to invade pakistan? Pakistanis actually entered india and killed hundreds. They have done that several times too."

Israel has suffered these attacks for months without reacting just as India had done. I suppose the effective consideration must be what is effective. Both Israel and India prefer the attacks be stopped by the relevant national authority from where the originate. That would be Hamas in Gaza. Hamas hasn't taken effective measures to stop the attacks and in recent days has even announced its own plans to initiate attacks.

What makes you think Israel isn't wielding power responsibly? Do you think Israel's continued acceptance of missile attacks will somehow protect Americans?
