Jon & Kate Ratings Plunge 77%

Jon and Kate Gosslin, children
Discovery Health Channel

Has reality TV gotten too real for viewers? Since last week's much-hyped Jon & Kate Plus 8 season premiere—in which stars Jon and Kate Gosselin tearfully announced that they've decided to divorce—viewers have plummeted from 10.6 million down to 2.4 million. (To put these figures in context: The show's season 5 debut drew 9.8 million.) Monday's show offered a look back at the couple's past 10 years, featuring mostly old clips. The series is now on hiatus until August to give the family "some time to regroup," TLC said. The Gosselins released a statement indicating that they'll no longer speak to the press. We’ll believe it when we see it.

Good. Now maybe the show will be canceled and those children can have a somewhat normal childhood. Can't buy that.........

That's a perfect way to bring the ratings back up.People where seeing them to much before the "BIG" divorce.I think Kate let the stardom go to her head it was getting pretty big. When she was on Racheal Ray she seem'd snobby like she was the host and racheal was the guest.I think John thought he was just a person on the show and said I'll get you. I'll find someone who is'nt like a dripping faucet..........!

This is an absolutely stupid article. Its making something of nothing. There has been one episode since the divorce announcement and it was A CLIP SHOW. Basically a dressed-up repeat. OF COURSE it would have massively lower ratings. Duh. It doesn't say anything one way or another about interest in the show. It's like having a clip show of the football season one week after the Super Bowl then writing an article about how the low ratings for it may mean interest in sports on TV is plummeting. Makes no sense.

Don't get me wrong, I am hardly defending the show or making predictions. Just pointing out that the story was a total waste of time and had to be written by an idiot.

Actually even idiots are offended by this lame article. They took TWO data points (featuring WEEKS of buildup and free ads on EVERY news show) and are using it as the norm for a program that generally gets only 2-3 Million viewers. That's 2-3 million for a REGULAR program. We are talking TLC here people, not MTV. But as pointed out, the current shows are all RE-RUNS. So if they are down to 2.4 million viewers for RE-RUNS, the ratings are actually pretty good. Jon, Kate TLC are winning. The children are not!

I really hate the show and I refuse to support child exploitation by watching..however I hate bad reporting even more so I had to comment. Come on Tina Brown don't allow junk reporting, you are better than that!

It's one thing to watch a train-wreck when one has hope of survivors.
it is entirely another thing when one has no hope at all.
