Lambert Explains His AMA Antics

Did anyone catch Adam Lambert flipping the bird during his already controversial American Music Awards performance Sunday night? Most viewers were probably too busy watching him grind and make out with fellow band member Tommy Ratliff, who plays keyboard. Lambert tells MTV.com that the gesture wasn't planned, but in the moment he was giving a big F-you to his critics, such as Out magazine editor Aaron Hicklin who accused Lambert’s management of pushing him back in the closet. "[I]t was to prove freedom of expression and to prove I am in control of my situation," Lambert explains of his actions. As for that kiss? Also unplanned. Ratliff is single and straight, but, says Lambert, "I guess he didn't mind getting kissed in the name of entertainment."

Celebrity needs to be earned. He's a20 something who thinks he's entitled to celebrity because he offers all the bells. This, the sorry state of our youth. God forbid they bring back the draft, this group of skulls full of mush metro-sexless will be killed off faster than a roller coaster.

The response from you two is part of the reason that there is such a
generation gap. You over generalize and speak with such disdain toward youth.
Do you really think that Adam Lambert speaks for my generation?! Or that he somehow embodies what we all stand for? You just end sounding bitter and out of touch.

And if not a drill SGT, we could probably find an unemployed ex-cop who'd be willing to give the little punk a tune-up...to help out society, I mean.

cvillekid,, that just made my day thanks.. LMAO.. NYPD Blue was a good show.
By the way i was a LT for 10 years.

Warehouseone. I do have two spoiled teenage kids, so i think i might have a little different view than you. They are very good kids but they by no means get the bigger story. when i tell my oldest $150 dollars a week is to much spending money for a kid in collage do you think she listens to the old man?

If this is the case that liberals don't like this you libs need to stand up and say it.... most Conservatives think anyone of you Libs would have loved to be assaulted by AL on stage.

Ah, as always, Dems, with his homophobic obsession, his sick vision of America.

MTV Music Awards antics...a gay singer kisses a straight band member (for publicity) and all the grannies have their panties in a bunch... of course granny did not watch the show...she just needs something to be indignant about.

If secularism is the new religion, then good...the beliefs of many in traditional religious institutions seems only to spread division and hate.

And which generation didn't bemoan "the sorry state of our youth"? They are who they are, and just like previous generations, they will grow up, learn to feed themselves, and pay taxes to keep senior citizens like MAL on medicare.

This is such a non-story

I've never heard anyone call Demsdisorder "granny" before. Nice call, seemore. Yet I'm not convinced, from the scanty information you present, that he's wearing panties too. But who knows nowadays? Still, it's an interesting theory. In any case, I'd watch my back.

Ah, yeah, look at how "in control" you are as people lose interest in having you perform on their shows...

Dude, seriously, grow up! Get over yourself. And remember that, unfortunately, you're representing a minority of folks that the majority are looking for any reason to slap another label onto...

I wasn't very clear in my previous statement. I agree, it isn't a majority that seek to demonize homosexuals. What I meant by majority wasn't intended to be 'a majority of people', I meant those in the majority in regards to sexual orientation - heterosexuals. I also wasn't attempting to suggest that this is true of all heterosexuals. Just some of those who have an anti-gay agenda and/or some that like to remain willfully ignorant about homosexuals.

My point, since I butchered it before, was that antics like Adam Lambert's and most definitely Perez Hilton are often cited as evidence as to why homosexuals are inherently dysfunctional or can't be trusted or should be shunned and so forth. And considering how small a minority we are and the struggle we are in now for legal recognition and tolerance, we really can't afford such arrogant self-indulgence from those of us who have been (undeservedly) graced with celebrity.

It's ok for Madonna to tongue another female on stage at an awards show, so what's the big fuss? Sure, it's tasteless (or maybe not?!) but Lambert is helping ABC and their ratings, so maybe he should get a cut of the profits.

I agree -- there's a different standard based on gender. I think he overstepped with the "sex act" he mimicked.

"As for that kiss? Also unplanned. Ratliff is single and straight..." Hmmm, unplanned. Even if Ratliff was gay, this still constitutes sexual assault. Irregardless of gender or sexual orientation, unwanted sexual attention needs to prosecuted to the full extent of the law.
