Lance Pushes to the Front
He’s back: Lance Armstrong has pulled past the younger riders to move just short of the lead in the Tour de France. The 37-year-old, seven-time Tour de France winner powered near the head of the pack Thursday afternoon, and begins Friday 0.22 seconds away from the lead as the riders turn into the Pyrenees, the stage of the race that has always been his greatest strength. Lance’s surprising turn has drawn excited crowds along the race course, but also renewed speculation of drug use, charges that have dogged him throughout his career (he has not failed a drug test). When it comes to strategy, Armstrong thinks he’s got it in the bag. “I have won seven of these races,” he said. “I think I know what I’m doing.”

Go Lance! Wheel be with you and exspoke you to win!
HA HA,
Hook 'em!
Lance, 37, has created chaos within his own team. As if he needed another Tour de France title URGENTLY, he has disrespected team leader Alberto Contador, 26, and has hogged the limelight as any megalomaniac would.
I hope Lance wins. He will look really great stepping all over a new generation of young clean riders. Way to go, chump, er, champ... whatever.
piktor haven't read about that, have a source?
Ettienne -- yes, check out my comments at McKinnon's blog:

Read your comments: I suppose you could look at it different ways. One, look at the results. Two, look at him per his interaction with team members and sponsors.
Regardless, the man is an amazing athlete and politics aside, a wonderful role model for our youth and spokesperson for Cancer research.
You could make a long list of athletes that are jerks but still very accomplished.
We will see about your predictions of Lance's happiness if he finishes in the top ten and if Contador will slam him in the climbing stages.
Ettienne -- You have to ask yourself what would Lance prove if he smashes all the hard working younger riders that have not rested for four years like he has. An eighth tour win makes no statement at all.
If he pushes the young Astana team to victory and then he fades gracefully, it would be the only admirable statement Lance could make in this Tour.
piktor sounds like he has a private connection to the team, but whatever, what he states makes perfect sense. Primadonnas always create inner-team animosity. Or maybe the steriods make certain Primadonnas incapable of thinking of anyone other than themselves, whatever...,
I mean, look at Barry Bonds.
Reading the LA Times article, It appears Alberto is unhappy that he is now beta dog. I guess wheel see. I wonder if Lance's spokesperson will address this before we all tire of it.
hockeydog -- just sorta cycling junkie
I disagree. Lance and Contador have both said that the team drama is being over played. Did you watch today's stage, Lance pulled very well for contador and when contador broke, Lance chose not to follow.
Nice EE! Break a leg Lance and we know you can do it without failing a drug test!
If Armstrong wins, Europeans will be in an uproar. Again. Oh well.
Oh give it up Lance. Role model? A preening out-of-control egoistic star-f----r. Role model? How many dope tests did you fail today Lance? Why I wonder does a lower standard apply to this vainglorious narcissist? Just another aging jerk in lycra hogging the roadside.
tiger73rd - I imagine if he wins they could invite you to his victory celebration! In Texas they enjoy many south of the border customs. You can come as the pinata. You could even where a yellow jersey.
Cher Etienne, how does one "where" a jersey?

I think I'm getting to like you Etienne!
All this trash talking Lance is really bumming me out. I think he is amazing. As a human being I'm sure he is just as flawed as the rest of us, but for someone to beat Cancer and come back to win the Tour de France repeatedly is truly inspirational. No matter what you may think of him as a person, you have to admire that achievement and realize that he is a beacon of hope for cancer victims everywhere.
moejaho -- I think like you on the survival struggle. My problem with Lance is he was hired to help push Contador to victory. He said his comeback was for the Livestrong cause, not to win anything. So the first order of business is hog all attention and launch the Lance I Am so Wonderful Revue.
He can only win this thing if he helps Contador win the Tour.
Go for it Lance... Stick it to those French fries again...
USA USA USA
Perhaps Lance has cheated in the past, as have many professional cyclists, but he has been tested more than any athlete in history and has never tested positive. His accomplishments are undeniable and truly inspiring, including his efforts for cancer victims worldwide. Yes, he is narcissistic, as most great athlets, but he is an amazing force of nature and I hope he wins the Tour again and he continues to help his fantastic team.
Thank you.
