Leibovitz Sued for $300,000
Annie Leibovitz is not having a good year. Not only must she repay a $24 million loan or risk losing her homes and the rights to a lifetime of photographs—by Tuesday—but now she's being sued for copyright infringement. The Guardian reports that Siena photographer Paolo Pizzetti has filed a $300,000 suit against Leibovitz over a Lavazza coffee company promotional calendar. Pizzetti says Leibovitz asked him to scout locations for the calendar, including the Trevi Fountain in Rome and the Plaza San Marco in Venice. He alleges that he was told that Leibovitz wouldn't be coming to Italy to finish the assignment, but saw his images of the fountain and plaza in the calendar, published last October. Leibovitz's spokesperson said, "Since we have not yet seen the filing, we have no comment."

It must be her turn to be up against the wall.

Typical elitist cut down to the size of the little people. I guess she wants the public option now.. great friends she has to bail her out.

Why is this important? Was she supposed to photograph Tina Brown?

Good question norton... maybe we are supposed to bail her out too?

It's not important, norton, but it's TDB. There's good stuff on the site and you live with the fluff, a polite way to describe what Rebecca Dana and Barbie what's-her-name, among many others, submit.
Also, Ms. Leibovitz has already photographed Tina. (As you intuit, that's why this is important to TDB.) The real issue is what in 2009 qualifies as "art" and why a life-long starf...er, whose life-work consists only of snapshots those same "stars" would be considered an "artist."

Disagree Port. She has lived a very exciting and spendy life. Most of us won't make in a lifetime the kind of money she raked in in a year. Can't muster a bunch of sympathy for these folks that could spend boatloads on, well, boats and other stuff, frankly that most of us won't even get to touch. Well, maybe on a once in a lifetime cruise?
Thank you.
